Chapter 207 Territory

After finding a suitable landing spot and then riding a motorcycle to reach his destination, it was already dawn. Li Ke walked casually on the beach with a shovel in his hand. Wherever there was still water in the puddle, he could always find a few fish like this.

The beach today used to be land. There wasn't much sand on the beach; it was mostly thick mud. The mud was baked by the sun, and layers of cracked soil had formed, giving it a very scorching visual effect.

Li Ke walked along the beach for a while, then stopped at a beach sheltered by a small hill. He then took out a folding chair, sat down on the beach, and began to collect seawater into his own space.

She doesn't know what use the fish will be in the future, but since she has discovered it, Li Ke plans to stock up on some in advance. Anyway, there are researchers at Qiu Feng's base now, and they will be able to figure something out sooner or later.

When the sun came out, Li Ke put away her chair and started digging a hole in the nearby mountainside. She dug out a dwelling for one person and crawled inside.

After nailing a gray, blackout cloth that matched the mountainside to the cave entrance, Li Ke placed a large rock inside the cave that could almost fill it, leaving only enough space for one person, before entering the space.

The stream in the space has grown longer and longer, and the water flow has increased significantly. It meanders through the space, trying to reach farther places. Li Ke dug many reservoirs near the source of the stream and diverted some of the water into these reservoirs.

Arriving at the seawater pool she had collected, there were quite a few strange fish inside, but the number was really not much. No one was collecting these things yet. Li Ke planned to collect more mutated fish before that happened, so that she wouldn't have to compete with ordinary people for resources in the future.

After the sun came out, the temperature rose quickly. Li Ke didn't plan to do anything in the high temperature during the day. She would go out at night, set out the boat, and fish with nets all night long. She would leave when it was almost dawn the next day.

After taking a nap in the space, Li Ke rode around with the dogs for a while, inspected the various parts of the space, and did some simple poop-scooping work. When he was tired from playing, Li Ke took another nap with the dogs. When he felt it was about time, Li Ke came out of the space.

It was nearly 8 p.m. When Li Ke stepped out of the space, a humid and stuffy atmosphere enveloped him in the cave. He put away the large stone and was about to push open the outer cloth door when he heard some faint noises.

She stopped what she was doing, took out a bulletproof glass panel from her storage space and held it in front of her. She then extended a small black knife through the curtain and peeked out through a small gap.

A group of people appeared on the previously deserted beach in the distance. They were scattered and squatting on the ground, with buckets and basins beside them, as if they were digging something. Some of them were moving towards this side, and there were seven other people standing around them. These seven people were either holding bows and arrows or sticks and other sharp weapons.

While they were still some distance away and no one was paying attention, Li Ke went out and put away the curtain that matched the mountainside.

Hiding behind the mountain, I continued to observe with binoculars for a while before realizing that those people weren't looking for mutated fish, but rather digging out some long, thin creatures from under some damp soil, casually washing them in water, and throwing them into a nearby container.

Some people stood up and looked for targets elsewhere. Li Ke's gaze moved downwards and he noticed that these people all had iron chains on their feet, and their ankles were wrapped with rags to reduce friction and injury.

Upon closer inspection, all these people were women and underage children. The seven men guarding them were relatively few men. Li Ke counted them and found that, apart from the seven guards, there were fifty-nine women and children. They were all very thin, and judging from their unsteady gait, many of them were probably still injured.

Li Ke used binoculars to observe the exits in the distance. He could vaguely see two trucks on the road in the distance, but the rest of the area was blocked by some dilapidated walls and could not be observed.

Li Ke recalled that when she arrived today, there were no signs of digging on the beach. These people might be visiting this area for the first time today, but it's also possible that the waves surged up tonight and smoothed out the marks.

The crowd was gradually moving towards her. Not seeing any firearms in their hands, Li Ke looked at the sky. The sun was now like a huge blood-orange semicircle on the sea. She didn't know when these people had arrived or when they would leave, but Li Ke didn't intend to humble herself.

She carried a large backpack and walked in the other direction. Once she was out of the mountain, there wouldn't be much to hide behind. Li Ke didn't plan to go forward to rescue anyone; she just wanted to finish her own business as soon as possible.

She had only taken a couple of steps when someone spotted her and shouted for her to stop. Li Ke ignored the voice and kept walking forward. Soon, she heard a faint whooshing sound. Li Ke turned around in the direction of the sound and saw an arrow landing five meters behind her. It seemed that the other person's bow and arrow were not very good.

A man carrying a bow and arrow and another holding a watermelon knife ran towards Li Ke. When Li Ke stopped, the man with the bow shouted, "If you take another step forward, I'll shoot this arrow through your head!"

Li Ke watched as they ran up to him, panting heavily. The man with the bow and arrow even picked up the arrows from the ground, and then he and the man with the knife surrounded Li Ke on either side: "What's in your backpack? Where did you come from? Do you have any accomplices? If you know what's good for you, tell us everything!"

Li Ke stood still: "What's it to you? We have nothing to do with each other. Are you sure you want to make a move?"

Those people in the distance were also moving quickly towards this side. It seemed that the other guards also wanted to get over quickly to boost the morale of their two companions.
