Qiu Ling's eyes widened, but she wisely refrained from asking further. She took a half-step back, then, realizing it wasn't appropriate, cautiously said after a moment, "It's alright. I killed someone too. I killed Zhan Xiong. There were others as well. They taught those bad guys a lesson, but I don't know if they killed them all?"
Zhou Heng didn't respond further. Li Ke had one of the laborers carry the man on his back and find a room to settle him in. Judging from Zhou Heng's expression, what happened next was something he probably never wanted to mention again.
"Is there a doctor here?" Li Ke asked Qiu Ling.
Qiu Ling didn't know that, in any case, when people got sick here, they were just thrown into the ward to fend for themselves, and nobody cared about them.
"I'll go ask him." Qiu Ling felt a little sad looking at Zhou Heng's cold demeanor.
Fifteen minutes later, Qiu Ling indeed brought back a group of people, including two women, one who knew a little about medicine and the other who had worked as a caregiver; there were no proper doctors among them.
This group of people came to ask Qiu Ling to open the storeroom and take out some food to share. The bad guys were either dead or injured, and the survivors were all locked up.
Qiu Ling gave the warehouse key to an older sister who often took care of her. Li Ke recognized this woman as the one who had hugged Qiu Ling on the beach. At the time, she thought they were family.
“Those children were sold off and are no longer in this base, but we haven’t been able to get much information about the buyers. These transactions were all handled personally by Wang Hu and his men. There are only two bases closest to us, and those people said that both of these bases do business with Wang Hu, so it’s hard to pinpoint which base the children are currently in,” Qiu Ling said as she approached Li Ke.
Li Ke glanced at Qiu Ling: "I'll be leaving tonight. What you do next is up to you."
Qiu Ling lowered her head and remained silent.
A commotion arose nearby. Qiu Ling walked over, parted the crowd, and saw that the warehouse door was open, with a lot of supplies piled up inside, mostly food and drinks.
But then a few people blocked the way, telling everyone to line up and that the items would be distributed later.
Immediately afterwards, another group of women and children came out of the warehouse. Some of the women were heavily pregnant, and some were carrying infants. They were all wearing ill-fitting clothes, but overall they were much cleaner than the others Li Ke had seen.
These women and children were all good-looking. Just as Li Ke was about to look away, her eyes were drawn to another face.
Life is truly full of unexpected encounters. The person who was supposed to appear eight years later has appeared ahead of schedule. Li Ke narrowed his eyes and put his right hand on the pistol at his waist.
