Chapter 277 Modification

Sitting on the sofa in the guest room, Jian Ye's expression turned somewhat serious upon hearing his subordinate's reply. He asked, "In your opinion, what kind of person is the head of this Li family base?"

The subordinate who brought the message back glanced at his boss's expression before bowing his head and replying, "Although this Base Chief Li has been refusing us, he hasn't made things too difficult for us. When I first arrived, it was so cold that he even prepared hot water for me to warm me up. I feel that although he has a bit of a temper, he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would bully others or make trouble unreasonably."

Jian Ye's head was starting to ache. It seemed he had made a mistake this time; he shouldn't have specifically mentioned Xiao Yi, as it might have provoked the other party's resentment.

There were some ulterior motives behind inviting Xiao Yi over. Their base was not as powerful as others, and nowadays there were many other bases that wanted to forcefully recruit them.

But Jian Ye also didn't want to be a pushover, so she naturally had to find ways to build connections to give herself a buffer. Even if she wanted to side with one side, she would have to wait until they understood the situation before considering it.

He had already extended an invitation to Xiao Yi, hoping to learn about the various bosses' bases from Xiao Yi. If he had to find a backer, he naturally wanted to find a reliable one.

As for inviting Director Li as well, it was because the foreman had made a false accusation against him, and Jian Ye hadn't thought things through before sending someone to invite him.

Firstly, if Chief Li is reasonable, Xiao Yi is a mediator; secondly, if he is difficult to talk to, Xiao Yi is someone who can keep things under control.

Unfortunately, it seems that his plan has backfired. Jian Ye rubbed his temples and said, "Have someone keep an eye on that foreman. I'm going to interrogate him properly after dinner."

The man had an honest face, and the progress reports he sent were always quite detailed. Jian Ye didn't have any doubts at the time because he had indeed met many arrogant and disdainful representatives of the business base.

Hearing his subordinates' reply, he had a growing feeling that he might have been deceived.

Seeing that it was almost time, Jian Ye grabbed her coat, tidied herself up, and went downstairs. Even if that guy surnamed Li didn't come, she would still host a banquet for Xiao Yi.

Although he and Xiao Yi had known each other for several years, they hadn't seen each other for many years, and with the changes in personnel, Jian Ye didn't dare to be too confident in their past friendship.

Xiao Yi had many things to do and was very busy, but he did not refuse Jian Ye's invitation. However, time was short, and he had to leave after the conversation, which lasted only for one meal.

The snow had stopped, and it was bitterly cold outside. Jian Ye checked the time and went out of the hall to greet Xiao Yi. Xiao Yi had a good habit of always being punctual when he made a promise.

Sure enough, after Jian Ye had only walked for two minutes in the snow, a jeep drove up from the road next to her.

Seeing Xiao Yi's car parked and him get out, Jian Ye felt a moment of disorientation, as if she had returned to the N City shelter.

At that time, Xiao Yi and his team were about to go on a mission. Whether it was because he had a premonition or for some other reason, Xiao Yi specifically sought him out before leaving.

They were instructed that if anything happened to them, the Jian family should immediately take over the management of the shelter.

After that mission, Xiao Yi and his team disappeared without a trace. They didn't meet again until now.

Jian Ye felt a slight stirring in his heart, but it was far less than the excitement he showed on the surface. Sure enough, after being apart for a long time, feelings can become unfamiliar.

"Xiao Yi, I'm so happy you're still alive!" Jian Ye excitedly opened her arms and gave Xiao Yi a bear hug.

Xiao Yi patted his shoulder with his left hand: "You look a lot more mature now. It's good that we're all alive."

Jian Ye sensed that Xiao Yi's body seemed to have some problems under her embrace; his right side seemed somewhat stiff.

Xiao Yi was not wearing very heavy clothes at the time. He was wearing a winter military uniform underneath a woolen military overcoat, and he still looked tall and handsome.

Jian Ye pulled the person towards the lobby, while the person behind him went to greet the driver who had come with Xiao Yi.

After exchanging a few words, the two regained some of their compatibility. Once inside the private room, Jian Ye personally removed Xiao Yi's coat. When she touched his right hand, which was covered by a black leather glove, she felt it was cold and hard.

He joked, "Are you guys reluctant to turn on the air conditioning in this car? I'll have someone bring you a hot water bottle to warm your hands."

Xiao Yi shook his head and pulled up his right sleeve a little. Jian Ye looked over and saw that it wasn't human skin or muscle, but a shiny black mechanical structure with obvious connector marks on the wrist.

As Jian Ye watched this scene, his hand unconsciously went to Xiao Yi's right arm. It was very hard. He continued to move his hand up Xiao Yi's upper arm in disbelief, but Xiao Yi reached out his left hand and took his hand away.

“It’s all gone, but it’s not without its advantages. I’m no longer afraid of the cold or pain. If it weren’t for the need to apply for the materials, I would have liked to have a complete body makeover,” Xiao Yi joked with Jian Ye.

Jian Ye looked stunned for a moment before sitting down and agreeing: "Yeah, I've always thought this kind of modification is really cool. Let's have another competition sometime and let me see if you've gotten any better."

Xiao Yi's reply this time didn't give Jian Ye much face: "If you have the chance, spar with my men a few times first, and then challenge me after you've beaten them."

Jian Ye pointed at Xiao Yi: "You're as arrogant as ever!"

After all the dishes were served and the staff had left, Xiao Yi took out a small booklet and placed it on Jian Ye's table.

"This is the distribution of power among the various bases in the safe zone, as explained by the boss. You haven't been here long, so you need this."
