Li Ke had her own considerations. Although she also wanted to go to sea to see what those people were up to, going with Xiao Yi, or rather the military, was absolutely out of the question.
There are too many shrewd people there, and being with them would mean a lot of constraints. So Li Ke never thought of joining them. The reason he didn't refuse from the beginning was that he didn't want to appear too afraid of the military.
The next morning, Ruan Xuan was about to take the boat back to the island. She and Li Ke seemed to have returned to a state of unfamiliarity. When they passed each other, she only smiled slightly at Li Ke before quickly leaving with her entourage.
Li Ke found the village leader and told him about his intention to leave. The leader said that a group of people would return to the safe zone in two days, and Li Ke and his companion could leave with them.
Li Ke had long observed that everyone in the village had changed, although they were still wearing the same clothes as the locals, and their speech and appearance were the same as the locals.
But Li Ke was certain that none of the people she saw again had the same faces as the villagers she had met along the way when she first entered the village.
Li Ke didn't want to stay in such a place any longer. She and Niu Dazhuang directly proposed to buy two motorcycles or a long-distance vehicle and some supplies in the village, and they would leave on their own.
Of course, the money had to be owed first. Li Ke didn't have any gold on her at the moment, and Niu Dazhuang was also very poor when he came. As a base leader, it wouldn't be difficult for her to buy some money on credit.
The person in charge went to contact and report to his superior, asking Li Ke to wait for the results. Li Ke felt that the person he should contact was Xiao Yi.
The response came quickly: the person in charge agreed to Li Ke's request and provided them with two motorcycles, two large barrels of gasoline, two large backpacks of supplies, and an invoice.
Li Ke handed the bill directly to Niu Dazhuang, telling him to keep it safe and settle the account later.
Taking advantage of the cooler sun, Li Ke and Niu Dazhuang rode their motorcycles out of the village together, with Niu Dazhuang leading the way. Their destination was naturally the safe zone.
The note Ruan Chun gave to Li Ke was still in the space. It contained three pieces of information: one indicated the location of the force that could guide Li Ke, another listed the name of the guide, and the code for dealing with him.
There was one last message, which specified the location of Ruan Chun's belongings. This was her way of surrendering; she asked Li Ke to take these things away.
However, Li Ke currently has no intention of touching the information provided by Ruan Chun, at least not in the short term.
Nguyen Xuan's recollections were likely largely a means to gain her sympathy and thus lower her guard.
Although Nguyen Xuan has a tragic past and her words and actions have always hinted at her admiration and longing for Li Ke, she has now chosen to surrender to the military, and then secretly befriends her, paying what seems to be a considerable price.
But in reality, the information she received was only Ruan Chun's side of the story, and frankly, Li Ke still knew very little about this woman.
Ruan Chun was a great storyteller, and Li Ke was once swayed and felt sorry for her, but that was all.
Li Ke will never forget the island where Ruan Xuan lived, where there was once an entrance covered with human heads, and the water was full of man-eating fish monsters.
No matter how many hardships Nguyen Xuan had, how resilient she was, or how many past events she felt sorry for, in fact, on that island, she shared the same underlying character as Nguyen Bang.
Li Ke would not trust such a person at all. If she really followed the path she was given, she might one day become a message for the other party to defect.
Li Ke sincerely agreed to let her join her base, but things are unpredictable. This woman still had to go to sea, and whether she would return was still uncertain.
At noon, the two found a shady spot in the mountains to rest and eat. Niu Dazhuang busied himself setting up the tent, boiling water, and letting it cool, while Li Ke was left to sit and rest. Li Ke complied with him.
The food the village prepared for them consisted of some compressed biscuits, some fried dry food cakes, and a small amount of dried sweet potatoes. For someone traveling, this was actually quite good.
Li Ke only took a cookie and ate a little bit as a formality, then drank water. Niu Dazhuang complained that she ate too little, and Li Ke told him to stop nagging her.
Niu Dazhuang glared at him: "You think I'm nagging? Nobody has ever said that to me before."
Li Ke told him to shut up, then turned and went into the tent to lie down. It was still hot, but much better than being under the blazing sun.
Li Ke was thinking about all sorts of things. She was actually a little irritable. When she closed her eyes, everything she had seen on the island kept flashing through her mind.
Niu Dazhuang ate outside, washed the dishes by the river, and then washed himself. When he felt that there was no smell anymore, he returned and crawled into the tent.
Li Ke sensed someone approaching from the side, a man with a heavy aura and radiating heat, and a sudden surge of anger welled up within her.
Even knowing that Niu Dazhuang was next to her, she was still annoyed. Just as she was about to tell him to stay away from her, she felt a gust of wind coming over. This guy was sitting to the side, fanning Li Ke with a palm leaf fan.
He was seated at a distance that was neither too close nor too far from Li Ke. The breeze he was fanning himself could reach him a little, but it was mostly directed towards Li Ke.
Li Ke was a little unable to vent her anger, but Niu Dazhuang still said with a smile, "Take a break, I'll stay here and won't bother you."
After a long pause, Li Ke said somewhat irritably, "Why did you come along? You could have just gone back to the safe zone with those people. It's so annoying."
If she were alone right now, she would have gone straight into the space to relax and enjoy herself. The village had only given them one tent, and Li Ke couldn't bring herself to kick Niu Dazhuang out.
