Chapter 316 Escape

They were almost at the town's exit, but before their car even reached it, the road suddenly broke off, and a large amount of soil and mud gushed out.

The windshield was also sprayed, causing the glass, which was already cracked by flying stones, to collapse into the driver's seat. Fortunately, no shards of glass flew out.

Wearing a helmet, Li Ke turned the car around at a critical moment, causing it to fly to the side for two seconds before all four wheels landed safely.

The road ahead was impassable, so Li Ke turned around to find another way, while simultaneously leaning out and throwing a punch to smash and tear apart the glass that was obstructing his view.

The faux leather gloves on my hands had some cuts, but they weren't torn, which means they're really good quality.

Braving the wind and rain, Li Ke drove his car and found another road out of the town. This time it was in the opposite direction. The car bumped along the way and finally drove into a vast, abandoned field. After driving through the mud for more than twenty minutes, the engine finally stalled.

The reason we were able to drive for more than 20 minutes was because the land was extremely dry due to the hot weather, but now there is already water four or five fingers deep on the ground.

Li Ke was soaked through, and the car was flooded. Without a windshield, Li Ke had barely opened his eyes to check the direction since he rushed into the field; he just kept rushing forward.

After the bus stopped, she pulled out a thick raincoat and put it on, while shouting to the people in the back of the bus, "Grab your escape kits, get off the bus, and hurry up."

Li Ke opened the car door and stepped into the water. She went to the back and opened the car door. Two fists came straight at her. Li Ke was furious and grabbed the two fists and hugged them to her chest. She squeezed and broke them. Amid the boiling rain, the sound of bones breaking was heard by only the three people involved.

Li Ke dragged the two bodyguards, each with a broken arm, out of the car and threw them into the mud. Then, holding a rifle, he pointed it inside and said, "Mo Qing, come out here!"

The people inside automatically made way, revealing Mo Qing's figure. Li Ke then took out a raincoat and made him wear it and follow her.

As for the others, Li Ke, who had originally intended to help them, changed his mind: "You can divide the escape kits in the car among yourselves. The water will rise here soon, so figure out how to escape on your own!"

Li Ke pulled Mo Qing towards the higher ground she had chosen. After the others had received their share, they followed Li Ke and Mo Qing without hesitation.

The ground was muddy and difficult to walk on due to the rain, and it was still shaking and trembling. After only half an hour, Mo Qing's breathing became rapid, as if it would stop at any moment.

The sky seemed to have turned into a flooded sea. In just half an hour, the water level had reached almost to the thighs, and the road ahead had become a vast expanse of water where there was no hope.

Mo Qing patted Li Ke's shoulder and said breathlessly, "Put me down and walk by yourself. If you keep dragging me along, we'll both be drowned by this flood."

Aside from feeling a bit uncomfortable from being soaked, Li Ke didn't find carrying Mo Qing strenuous. With her current stamina, she could probably manage to carry three or five more Mo Qings.

With a group of people following behind, Li Ke had no way to knock Mo Qing unconscious and conjure a small boat. He could only continue to wade through the water with the people, getting soaked in the rain.

"Giving up so soon? Have you forgotten that you have two children waiting for you?" Li Ke asked coldly, still driving Mo Qing forward without stopping.

Mo Qing felt her feet almost leave the ground, and she followed Li Ke forward without exerting any effort.

After his breathing calmed down a bit, he wiped the rain off his face: "Your physical abilities have mutated too? When did it start?"

Li Ke had previously demonstrated excellent physical fitness, but Mo Qing knew that she exercised every day, so she wasn't sure whether it was the result of her exercise or a change in her body.

But now, Li Ke, who is 1.78 meters tall, can easily carry this 1.8-meter-tall man, who weighs at least 150 or 160 pounds, through such deep mud and water, braving the raging wind and rain. I doubt he could have lasted this long through training alone.

Instead of answering Mo Qing's question, Li Ke loudly retorted, "Did you hear a dog barking? Or a wolf howling?"

Upon hearing this, Mo Qing looked around, puzzled. The people behind her had split into two groups: one group was escorted by bodyguards, and the other group was without bodyguards, helping each other along the way.

His ears were also trying to distinguish the sounds, but he could only hear the howling wind and rain, which seemed to blend with the rumble of the earth. He couldn't hear anything, whether it was a dog barking or a wolf howling.

"Are you sure you heard correctly? Why would there be the sound of wolves or dogs howling here? And their howls are very different too," Mo Qing asked doubtfully.

Li Ke was now certain that she had heard the howls of wolves and dogs. Despite the raging wind and rain, she had indeed heard these faint, unusual sounds.

Just as they discerned the general direction of the sound, the ground suddenly rose and then quickly fell back down. Caught off guard, Li Ke and Mo Qing fell into the water together.

After the water surface rippled, it began to surge backward rapidly. Before the two could even get up, they were swept backward by the current. A series of barely audible screams came from behind them, and Mo Qing beside them was also swept away by the current due to the turbulence.

Before Li Ke could react, he reached out to grab Mo Qing, clutching a soft, wet patch of raincoat fabric. The other person's body was being swept away by the water, as if trying to break free of the raincoat.

Li Ke's head had just surfaced when he sank his feet into the mud, squinting to check on Mo Qing, fearing that the man would be completely separated from his clothes. At that critical moment, a large, white hand emerged from the water and grabbed Li Ke's wrist.

Li Ke immediately grabbed the other person's hand, pushed off the ground with both feet, pulled Mo Qing out of the water, and dragged him to his side and behind, so that he could lean on his shoulder and catch his breath for a while.
