Half an hour later, the water level had reached more than two meters deep. Li Ke also put on a life jacket, and the two of them and the dog continued to swim forward, searching for a way out.
The others behind them had completely disappeared, and it was unknown whether their communication with the animal rescue team went smoothly.
Every fifteen minutes, a call would come through the walkie-talkie. Li Ke answered three or four times before impatiently asking if the other party had arranged for rescue.
The reply was that arrangements had been made, but the wind and rain were too intense and the weather was too severe, so the rescue operation was still on standby and could only depart when the time was right.
The animals are equipped with tracking devices. As long as you stay with the animals and hold out until the wind and rain subside, rescue will arrive immediately.
Li Ke wasn't in a hurry, but Mo Qing, who was beside her, was just an ordinary person. Although he seemed to be doing better now, being soaked in the rain for too long was not a good thing.
Looking at the escalating storm, Li Ke wondered how much longer she would have to wait. She glanced around, but apart from the pair of clear-eyed dog eyes beside her, there were no other eyes watching. Mo Qing's consciousness was intermittent, so it didn't count.
Li Ke had the dog hold Mo Qing's hand, then plunged into the water. Two minutes later, she emerged from the water with a float over two meters long.
Mo Qing was lifted up and placed on the floating boat. Li Ke sat next to him, shielding him from some of the wind and rain. The dog next to them saw the floating boat and excitedly pawed at it.
Mo Qing felt much lighter all of a sudden. Turning her head, she saw the floating boat beneath her and was too exhausted to even be surprised. She asked Li Ke where it came from.
Li Ke shrugged: "Luckily, it just popped out of the water by itself."
Mo Qing breathed a sigh of relief. She was really lucky. Li Ke took off his life jacket and put it on Mo Qing's head.
"You better hold on. I've put in a lot of effort to save you, so don't hold me back. Otherwise, I won't be able to explain it when the rescue team arrives."
Mo Qing, her head buried under her life jacket, was unable to respond. She reached out a hand and squeezed Li Ke's arm to indicate that she had heard him.
Two hours later, the rain finally subsided. But it was only a little less intense and calmer compared to the previous torrential downpour.
With nowhere to land, Li Ke, his companion, and their dog floated on the water, no longer exerting any effort, drifting wherever the current took them.
In the latter half of the night, the rain was still falling, but the wind gradually stopped, and the raindrops became finer. Li Ke was awakened by the distant howling of wolves.
The big dog beside her also started barking in response, but it didn't leave Li Ke's side. Nearly two hours later, the animal rescue team finally approached with a group of people.
Seeing Li Ke and his group sitting on a floating boat in the distance, the exhausted group felt a glimmer of hope again.
On Li Ke's side, apart from Mo Qing being in a slightly worse physical condition, she and the dog were still very energetic. Although they had been soaking in the water for a while, once they had a float, they lay completely flat and stopped exerting themselves.
They ate something in the rain to replenish their energy. The dog had a big appetite, but Li Ke had enough to feed it.
Whenever this guy has a moment to spare, he stares at the backpack that Li Ke is strapping to his body, very curiously. Even though he can't smell anything, this human can still pull out delicious food for him. He really likes this person and this bag.
As dawn approached, four more people clung to Li Ke's floating platform. These four were older, physically weak, and in poor condition.
Li Ke only allowed them to lie on the side while their bodies remained submerged in the water. The buoyancy of the float was not a problem, but it was too small to seat so many people, and Li Ke had no intention of sacrificing himself for them.
By this time, Li Ke had removed most of his disguise and was sitting on the floating board, letting the people in the water look at him, oh, and an animal rescue team floating nearby.
Two dogs seemed to get along well with the dog next to Li Ke. They even swam over to greet each other. Then, one of the two dogs put its head on the dog next to Li Ke and started to slack off.
The dog harness had two buckles, with two people tied to the ends of the ropes. Each animal had one or two people tied to it, which showed how much effort they had put into it.
But Li Ke had already counted the number of people. There were three missing. They were three base leaders without bodyguards. The two bodyguards whose arms Li Ke had broken were still here.
When these people saw that Li Ke had revealed his identity, they remained unusually quiet and didn't make a sound. This was partly because Li Ke still had the rifle slung over his shoulder, and partly because they were truly exhausted.
The so-called rescue has been going on for almost a day and a night, and they still haven't arrived. They really don't know how much longer they have to wait.
A group of people, supported by life jackets and tied to animal rescue ropes, floated together in an eerie harmony and tranquility. Of course, there were also many complex and unreadable gazes that subtly scrutinized Li Ke.
The walkie-talkie crackled with inquiries again, followed by five or six voices ringing out in unison. There should have been more, but many of them had lost their belongings. Even the escape kits Li Ke had prepared for them were lost in the flood. There was nothing that could be done; too many unforeseen events were beyond their control.
Li Ke lazily replied that he wasn't dead. Upon hearing this, the others anxiously asked when the rescue would arrive. Although the rain hadn't stopped, it had become very fine and calm.
Li Ke heard the reply that the rescue plane had already departed and would arrive in two hours at the latest.
