The next day, when Li Zhenzhen saw the Mo family members coming to pick them up, and heard that it was the head of the family who had instructed them to come and fetch them, Li Zhenzhen felt a sense of relief and confirmation.
It seems Mo Qing also knows of Li Ke's existence. The raindrops, like beads, hit the car window, and Li Zhenzhen had to perk up again. What followed was probably another annoying situation.
Mo Qing was still somewhat patient. He didn't immediately have someone bring Li Zhenzhen to see him, but instead invited her three family members to the Mo family first.
The days that Chen Ziyue and her brother and Chen Jiaojiao spent in the military region were nothing like those of Li Zhenzhen; they truly lived in constant fear and anxiety.
Even after getting on the bus home, they can't settle down until they step into their own homes.
Now that she was about to be taken away again, Chen Jiaojiao couldn't take it anymore. She looked at her mother for help: "Mom, I want to go back. I don't know anything. Why do you have to take me with you in everything?"
Li Zhenzhen also looked tired. She said wearily, "Just answer whatever they ask. Don't worry, as long as you haven't done anything wrong, they will let you go."
Upon hearing this, Chen Jiaojiao's eyes flickered. If they dug any further, she was afraid they would uncover her secrets as well. But she also knew that her mother probably had no choice but to get back on the bus and follow instructions.
This trip lasted a whole day. Li Zhenzhen was initially a little worried, but then she thought that none of these people would be able to hold on until the end.
With no hope of getting along with her teammates, Li Zhenzhen grew impatient and stopped thinking about them. After eating something, she lay down to rest again.
I slept a long but restless sleep, vaguely feeling as if I were in a shadow. When I finally struggled to wake up, I was terrified by a figure by my bedside.
After seeing who it was, Li Zhenzhen said angrily, "You're back, but you didn't wake me up or go back to your own room. What are you doing sitting silently by my bed?"
Chen Jiaojiao was also brought back to her senses by Li Zhenzhen's scream. She had only just returned and had just been lost in thought.
She was in a bad mood too, and replied impatiently, "I was just about to call you, and you woke up first."
Li Zhenzhen sat up, smoothed her hair, and moved to the edge of the bed to get up. Chen Jiaojiao's voice rang out again: "Mom, do you know what's going on? Why are the military region and the Mo family both asking about Li Ke? She ran away after she turned eighteen. How would I know anything about her? The Mo family even asked me about her birthday and whether I knew anything about her biological father. It seems the Mo family still wants to confirm if she is a member of the Mo family. I didn't expect that even after Li Ke has been missing for so long, she can still be a fake heiress that people are thinking about."
Chen Jiaojiao's feelings were actually quite complicated. She was relieved that the Mo family hadn't been asking her about her own affairs, but their constant questioning of Li Ke was making her very annoyed.
She was initially a little jealous that Li Ke might be the daughter of the Mo family, but later she overheard her aunt and mother talking and found out that she wasn't.
She had privately asked Li Ke a few times who her biological father was, but after being coldly turned away by Li Zhenzhen several times, she knew she would never find out.
Li Zhenzhen didn't speak, and Chen Jiaojiao continued to complain: "Li Ke hasn't even shown her face. I think that Mo family head really wants her as his daughter. He's really asking for it."
Li Zhenzhen sat down in front of the dressing table, looked at her no-longer-youthful face in the mirror, and calmly asked, "Where are your father and aunt? Have they come back?"
Seeing that Li Zhenzhen didn't respond to her words, Chen Jiaojiao felt a tightness in her chest and said coldly, "Only my father and I came back. My aunt is still at the Mo family's house."
Li Zhenzhen closed her eyes slightly. Sure enough, she wondered how much of her past Chen Ziyue would reveal.
After dinner, when it was pitch black, Chen Ziyue was brought back. Li Zhenzhen and she looked at each other through the rain, and Chen Ziyue's eyes were filled with apology.
“Zhenzhen, I’m sorry, I’m getting old and can’t take any more hardship. I’ve already told you most of what happened in the past.”
Li Zhenzhen wasn't surprised: "So what if they told you? Let them investigate, they'll find out sooner or later anyway."
When they faced each other again, Li Zhenzhen remained calm, but Mo Qing's gaze towards her held a more complex and unpredictable expression.
"The you I remember, and the you I know again, are so different that it's hard to believe. I've thought about it for a long time. What made you become like this, or was this always who you were, and I just never really saw you clearly?" Mo Qing said, looking at Li Zhenzhen.
Li Zhenzhen sneered: "Wouldn't it be better to let the past be a little better? Why do you have to destroy all of that and make yourself uncomfortable?"
Mo Qing sighed and asked, puzzled, "Since Li Ke isn't my child, why did you hide her existence? Also, I want to confirm with you one more time, did you ever have a child with me?"
Chen Ziyue did tell her a lot about Li Zhenzhen's unpleasant past, but the woman didn't know much about what happened during their relationship and after their breakup.
Instead of answering, Li Zhenzhen asked, "Why don't you answer a few questions for me first? Where is Li Ke now? Why are the military investigating her? And how much do you know about her?"
Mo Qing looked at Li Zhenzhen, who was now somewhat sharp, and said calmly, "She is the base commander now, so naturally she has her own things to do. As for where she is or why the military is investigating her, I don't know either. I just want to know if she is my daughter or not."
Li Zhenzhen retorted, "Didn't you ask other people? Don't you know whether she's your daughter or not?"
