Qiu Feng said apologetically, "We have indeed been trying to contact the base chief recently, but she may have gone to a place where she can't receive a signal, so we haven't been able to get in touch with her yet."
Seeing that Commander Xia's expression was somber, Song Xian explained, "It's true. When our base commander left, he said that if you wanted to communicate with her, just contact her. Lu Qing suddenly laughed, and after her laughter subsided a bit, she said, "Of course I know it's not my fault. My only mistake was probably that I was a bit weak and didn't kill enough of them. Don't worry, I'm not trying to kill myself. I've just thought it through and realized it's pointless."
I originally wanted to be with you because I thought you were a good man. My past experiences meant I couldn't reach someone too outstanding, so being with you was already a good choice.
But now I find it utterly meaningless. We're already living a precarious existence, and these people are still so restless. They can use me, such a nobody, whenever they want, and they can just release me whenever they want.
As Lu Qing spoke, she became more emotional again. Zhou Heng could tell that she wanted to calm down, but the distress she felt was not so easy to overcome.
He didn't know what to say, so he just stayed with her quietly for a while. Lu Qing continued, "I approached you with ulterior motives, hoping for the security you could provide. But now I don't want that anymore. I want to become more capable, like our base commander. I've decided to join the base defense team."
Zhou Heng looked at Lu Qing's thin figure and said, "I support your desire to become stronger, but the requirements of the base's defense team are not low, and your physical fitness may not be up to par."
Lu Qing smiled and said, "This is how you see me, so weak, but that's just my cover. I can kill one and injure three of those men when I'm at a significant disadvantage in a group of men. I'm not that weak."
In fact, it was only after Lu Qing herself had blood on her hands that she suddenly realized she was not weak at all.
Zhou Heng looked at Lu Qing, who seemed different from before, and said, "I will support whatever decision you make. I just want you to know that if you still want to be with me, I'm always here for you."
Lu Qing looked into Zhou Heng's eyes: "I know you're a good person."
Seeing Song Xian and Qiu Feng turn around, Lu Qing turned and walked towards them. When the three met in front of the door, Lu Qing said directly, "I want to join the guard team."
Song Xian and Qiu Feng exchanged a glance. Although they didn't know why Lu Qing had this idea, they didn't say anything more, only telling Lu Qing to prepare to participate in the assessment.
Lu Qing blocked Qiu Feng's way: "I know you'll be taking a group of people out to sea soon, and I'd like to apply to go with you."
Qiu Feng's gaze suddenly sharpened. This decision was something they had just agreed upon with Commander Xia. Song Xian would stay here and go to sea with the military.
