The longer Chen Nanxing waited in the room, the more each second felt like an eternity. Her heart began to waver, and she kept thinking that Li Ke might not come back, or that she might have abandoned her and run away.
No matter how she thought about it, Chen Nanxing felt that her ending was not good, but now she had no way to open the door to change the situation. Once she opened the door and let the people outside see the terrible state inside the house, she would only die faster.
To stop herself from overthinking, Chen Nanxing got to work. She took the belts from the dead men, tied the only living man up tightly, and after confirming that he had no chance of resisting, she gagged him and woke him up.
When the man woke up and saw Chen Nanxing's face, his expression immediately turned angry. After realizing that there were only the two of them left in the room, his expression became even more hateful, and he whimpered, ordering Chen Nanxing to let him go.
Hesitation flashed in Chen Nanxing's eyes, but she knew the inherent flaws of these men. With the hand holding the gun, she punched the man hard in the stomach.
The man winced in pain. Although Chen Nanxing was weaker than Li Ke, he was actually quite capable due to his experience in the army.
"You better behave yourself and I'll let go of your mouth. If you still don't listen, I have plenty of ways to torture you."
Seeing his superior's bloodied and mangled face, who had been dead for some time, the man regained some of his composure. He met Chen Nanxing's eyes and nodded in agreement.
Chen Nanxing pulled the rag out of his mouth and immediately pressed a pistol against it: "I'll ask, you answer. Don't try anything funny. I have no way out. I won't let you control me anymore."
The man moved carefully before saying, "What do you want to ask? Are you really going to risk your life for that woman? It's not worth it. I think she left you here to buy time so we could kill you in the end. She never intended for you to live."
Chen Nanxing was originally half-squatting, but upon hearing the man's words, his right knee dropped down, landing squarely on the man's groin. The pain made him turn pale, and he tried to cry out, but the gun barrel stuffed into his mouth silenced him.
Chen Nanxing looked at his miserable state with disgust in his eyes: "I'm willing to be killed by her, it's better than dying at the hands of you filthy people. Now tell me in detail about the layout here. A cunning rabbit has three burrows. I know there must be other secret exits here. If you want to live, explain yourself clearly."
Seeing the other party nod, Chen Nanxing withdrew his knees. The man, pale-faced, told him everything he knew.
“Even if you knew those exits, you couldn’t escape. They’re all guarded, and they won’t let you through without a warrant. The officer who signed the warrant was killed by you. You’ve ruined your own path,” the man concluded.
More than ten minutes passed, and Chen Nanxing became even more anxious, but she didn't show it on her face.
Hearing the man's words, she replied in a very dismissive tone: "As long as there is a road, we can fight our way through. We don't necessarily need a warrant; guns will work just as well."
"When did you betray the organization? Or have you always been a double agent?" the man asked.
Chen Nanxing punched him: "What's it to you!"
Blood seeped from the man's mouth. Although he was tied up by Chen Nanxing and his life seemed to be in the woman's hands, he wasn't actually that nervous because he knew her past.
Compared to facing that madman surnamed Li, he felt more contempt and disdain for the traitor Chen Nanxing.
The man licked the blood from the corner of his mouth in front of Chen Nanxing, and said with a meaningful smile, "You're not without a way out. I can give you a chance. As long as you cooperate with me, I won't reveal your betrayal. I'll pin everything that's happening on that Li guy. Xue Ji, our base, including the slaves, has nearly 20,000 people. Are you sure you want to gamble everything on her?"
Chen Nanxing stared at the man for a while, seemingly considering, but finally shook his head: "This is just your way of escaping. In the end, I will still suffer and die. Chi Zhu, I'm not that stupid."
Hearing Xueji call her name, the man seemed moved and said, "Xueji, you know I've always liked you. As long as I can live, I will protect you. If you can help us catch that Li guy, they won't suspect you anymore. This is your last chance. Think it over carefully. That woman has no chance of winning. Xueji, you've always been a smart woman, don't be foolish."
Chen Nanxing hesitated: "You saw it too, that woman is very powerful. Her movements are so fast that we can't even see them clearly. If we encounter her, we have no chance to fight back."
This time, the man was unconvinced: "People can come up with solutions, and we have weapons and manpower. Unless she's a god, we can wear her down!"
Chen Nanxing looked at the man with interest and said, "Then tell me your method in detail."
After Li Ke dealt with the guards at the mine entrance, Ruan Chuncai, who was hiding in the distance, quickly ran over. She ordered the others to move the bodies of the ten guards away, change into their clothes, and then stand guard there.
“The next shift change won’t be for another four hours. There might not be enough time for everyone downstairs to climb up,” Ruan Chun said to Li Ke as she stood on the elevator.
"Four hours isn't enough? What's going on down there?" Li Ke asked, frowning, as he lifted his leg to stand on the elevator.
