Chapter 377 Misfortune

Three days after the underwater base was destroyed, the Chinese military launched a fierce attack on the Western maritime defenses. The fighting lasted for a week at sea, and the West eventually made concessions.

The West had a very good plan: to give up such a small mine, teach China a lesson, and still gain some benefits through the transaction.

As for the cause of the mine explosion, it's easy to find out; it can simply be described as an accident. Although the explosion caused by the solar energy mine wasn't devastating, its terrifying nature was still considerable.

What they didn't expect was that China didn't make any political condemnation or wrangling about the matter at all, but directly ignited the war at sea, and its assertive attitude was unprecedented.

This maritime disaster not only claimed the lives of the original miners at the base, but also Xia Ji's team, the expedition group that accompanied them, and several representatives left behind by the West. Even the three warships left at sea lost more than a third of their crew.

Roughly calculated, regardless of friend or foe, approximately 20,000 people died in this accident.

Moreover, the explosions did not end in one go, but continued for nearly two days. The seawater surged into towering waves, becoming torrents, whirlpools, and tsunamis, engulfing and pushing everything away.

Regardless of the West's subsequent attempts to justify and evade responsibility, China has maintained that the incident was premeditated and deliberately orchestrated by the West.

The West began to accuse China of sending people to infiltrate their base first, and that the bombs were brought in by their own people. They called up their own witness, a guard leader of the underwater base.

The leader revealed that Li Ke and Chen Nanxing had conspired to infiltrate the base, not only killing two of their leaders but also kidnapping one, planting bombs in the mine, and emptying all of their base's warehouses.

China scoffed, stating that Li Ke was not a military personnel at all, and that Chen Nanxing had also been found to be a spy planted by the other side. The West's accusations were completely fabricated.

Furthermore, since this incident occurred, why wasn't it brought up at the beginning of the cooperation? Bringing it up now is merely an attempt to cover up their claim that they destroyed the base.

The West's maritime defenses have been pushed back and forth by China. If the fighting continues, it will reach their island strongholds in the rear.

And that place is not far from the largest solar energy mine they are currently mining. If they continue to fight, and accidentally detonate the solar energy mine, the consequences will be unimaginable.

Without these reasons, the West could continue its struggle with the Chinese navy, but now they have no choice but to back down and negotiate.

The peace talks were another grueling process, but the good thing was that the Chinese navy had forcefully entered the West's maritime stronghold, entered into negotiations, and got what it wanted without taking too long.

On the aircraft carrier, all the leadership and combat personnel lined up on the deck, and after three cannon shots, they turned towards the direction of the shipwreck to mourn.

Even though they were far away when the explosion occurred, the area was still affected by the violent shockwaves, and they immediately began to investigate.

But faced with such a horrific disaster, all they could do was wait until everything calmed down before they could go and rescue their compatriots.

The fleet on the sea struggled in the wind and waves. In the end, two warships managed to escape the center of the explosion. Of the three warships, nearly two-thirds of the crew survived, which was considered lucky.

As for the people at the underwater base, none of them have survived so far.

After the mourning period ended, the captain returned to his office and, recalling the messages his old friend had been sending him one after another, inquiring about Li Ke's situation and requesting that she be sent back, let out a long sigh.

He already knew that Li Ke was his old friend's daughter, but before his old friend Mo Qing sent him a message, the first thing he received was the news that Li Ke and an exploration team had disappeared inside the underwater black hole.

Thinking that his old friend had just learned that he had a daughter and had sent him many caring messages, the captain was reluctant to send the bad news back, so he kept putting it off.

They had thought that Li Ke might reappear sometime, or that Xia Ji and the others might find him again, but who knew things would turn out like this.

The captain was somewhat convinced by the Western account that Li Ke and Chen Nanxing appeared together at the underwater base and instigated a disturbance.

Of course, he chose to believe that Li Ke had also entered the underwater base, but he remained skeptical about other allegations such as murder, emptying warehouses, and planting bombs.

But now that such a big thing has happened, the news will eventually get back. After thinking about it, the captain arranged for someone to deliver the news of their deaths back, and Li Ke's name was naturally on the list.

When Mo Qing did not receive a reply from his old friend, he tried every means to keep an eye on maritime information. Later, he also found out some news about a sudden battle at sea.

Hearing this information, his heart was constantly in his throat. Li Ke was at sea, and whether she was in the center of the battlefield or not, Mo Qing could not rest easy.

The news of Li Ke's death was not only sent to Qingyuan Base, but also back to Qiushan Base. The base commanders of both bases looked incredulous. Mo Qing was even more overwhelmed by the shock and fainted due to palpitations.

Upon receiving the news, Qiu Feng could no longer sit still. He was determined to go out to sea to retrieve the base commander's body, and even if he couldn't find it, he would bring back his spirit.

Zhou Heng and his men stopped him: "Send a team out to contact Dazhuang and have him go find him and invite him. There should be quite a few people in the entire safe zone who know this news now. At this moment, you cannot leave. You must stay here and stabilize our base."
