Chapter 381 An Important Guest

Li Ke sat in the car, looking ahead in silence, while Cheng Chenwei still said with great poise, "You haven't been here long, have you? I think I can help you learn more about this place. It's not peaceful outside right now, so staying here would be a good choice."

Cheng Chenwei genuinely wanted Li Ke to stay. He had even forgotten that he was still a prisoner. The speed and skill of the woman in front of him were unlike anything he had ever seen before.

He had also observed her physical movements as she walked; it was a perfect, normal human body, without any signs of technological manipulation. This made Dr. Cheng even more interested in this woman.

Li Ke then slowly spoke up: "Is it not peaceful outside? How so? Tell me."

Hearing Li Ke's condescending tone, Cheng Chenwei was not angry at all. He told Li Ke about the recent mining cooperation between China and the West, which resulted in a maritime accident that caused many casualties, as well as the ongoing naval battle.

He finished with a refined smile: "If I'm not mistaken, you must be quite interested in these matters. Most of those who have recently entered our island are people and corpses swept ashore by the storm during that violent shipwreck. I imagine you are also connected to this."

Cheng Chenwei was quite confident in her control over the area. During this period, no unfamiliar ships appeared in their waters, and the information on the island's residents was updated and checked every month. Any unidentified individuals were quickly discovered.

Upon hearing this information, Li Ke felt a slight unease. She had been mining underground and was unaware that people from China had entered the underwater base.

Now that she heard it, it seemed that almost everyone in the base perished in this shipwreck. After a moment's thought, she realized that the fleet closest to the underwater base was the one she knew, and it was very likely that some of the people who died in this shipwreck were people she knew.

I recalled the information I had received from the fishermen I had asked earlier; they had mentioned that they had initially found a few survivors.

Ignoring Cheng Chenwei's speculation, Li Ke continued, "What are you doing collecting those corpses? I heard you also rescued a few people; where are they now?"

Cheng Chenwei answered every question readily, a subtle excitement flashing in his eyes in the dimly lit carriage. With a polite smile, he continued, "We discovered that the corpses carried strong energy factors. Even though they were weakened considerably by burning, we can still extract a lot of useful substances from them. As for the living people, we did find more than ten, but only two are currently alive, and their condition is very bad. If you're interested, I can take you to see them."

"Is it in the same place as your liaison station?" Li Ke asked.

Although Li Ke's attitude remained indifferent, Cheng Chenwei, who always had a keen sense of things, was certain that his topic had hooked the woman beside him.

“We’re not in the same place, but we’re very close. We can go to the liaison station first, and then go to my research institute.”

Li Ke glanced at the man beside her who was quite obedient. When she first met him, he pretended to be down on his luck and kind, but as soon as she began to have doubts about him, he immediately and very cleverly withdrew from the danger zone, which was quite decisive.

In the confrontation with Qiu Feng and his group, if it weren't for Li Ke's later fire support, Boss Cheng could be said to have completely defeated them.

Li Ke wouldn't underestimate such a person. She could sense his hidden excitement. Every time his gaze fell on her and then looked away, his heart would beat a little faster for about half a minute.

The very slightest thing is that this person is very good at controlling his emotions and senses. However, he encountered the advanced Li Ke, and everything about him was exposed.

A voice came through the driver's headset, and after a moment, he reported, "Boss, there's a car following us. It's Ms. Chen's car. Should we tell them to leave?"

Cheng Chenwei glanced at Li Ke, who remained expressionless, and seeing that she didn't intend to speak, replied, "No need. She's probably a little worried. Let her come along."

The car stopped at the entrance of the liaison station. There were three cars in total. Li Ke and Cheng Chenwei got out of the first car. Cheng Chenwei's bodyguard got out of the second car. Chen Zhizhi, Liu Jingyan and He Ru got out of the third car.

After the three women got out of the car, they immediately went to Cheng Chenwei's bodyguards. Chen Zhizhi, looking anxious, was the first to speak: "Li Ke, I don't know what you want to do, but you can't hurt Dr. Cheng. Dr. Cheng is supporting everyone on the island. Do you want to cut off all our livelihoods?"

Cheng Chen smiled and waved his hand: "Zhizhi, you're overthinking it. I greatly appreciate and welcome Ms. Li's arrival. She is my most important guest right now, and I hope you won't offend her."

Chen Zhizhi's face stiffened as she looked at Li Ke, who stood beside Cheng Chenwei, expressionless and silent. She still couldn't quite believe it.

Just now in the living room, Chen Zhizhi didn't even see what happened before Dr. Cheng suddenly fell into Li Ke's control.

She couldn't imagine how powerful Li Ke was, but the bodyguards Dr. Cheng always had with him were all super-powerful elite mutants. But clearly, Li Ke seemed to be much more powerful than them. Chen Zhizhi couldn't tell whether Dr. Cheng was saying this because he was threatened or because he genuinely thought so.

After all, in Chen Zhizhi's mind, Dr. Cheng was also a somewhat unpredictable and elusive person.
