Li Ke changed into snow-colored clothes, glided through the forest, crossed the seventh zone, climbed over the protective wall, and entered the sixth zone. She was grateful for her work with the law enforcement team, which gave her a certain understanding of the weaknesses of each zone.
When we arrived at the residential area where Zuo Hui lived, it was already 11 p.m. The weather was too cold, and apart from the occasional patrol officers who would come out to check things, there was no one else around.
Li Ke found a place, changed into the uniform of a male member of the law enforcement team that he had obtained in advance, and then swaggered into his target apartment building.
The security guard at the entrance yawned, and seeing the figure from behind, assumed it was law enforcement officers on patrol and didn't react.
Li Ke arrived at Zuo Hui's door at the address and knocked on the door. Zuo Hui answered and asked through the door what was wrong.
Li Ke replied, "The enforcement team is conducting a room check. Someone in the building reported that there are thieves here. It's a routine check, please cooperate. It will only take two minutes."
Zuo Hui opened the door a crack. The other person was wearing a law enforcement uniform, but his face was not visible. He said, "Please show me your work ID."
Li Ke skillfully pulled out the work permit of the dismissed employee that she had obtained. It hadn't been stamped as invalid yet, which was enough to fool the person in front of her.
Zuo Hui glanced at the work ID, found nothing wrong, and opened the door: "My girlfriend is resting, please hurry up."
Li Ke looked around the room, and finally came to the bathroom door, pointing inside and saying, "Could you please explain what this is?"
Zuo Hui, unaware of what Li Ke had discovered, walked over with some confusion. The moment Zuo Hui entered the restroom, Li Ke struck him unconscious with a single blow.
Then, I helped him close the bathroom door, tied him up, gagged him, put a hood over his head, and put him into my space.
When she came out of the bathroom, it was still quiet outside. Zuo Hui's girlfriend was still fast asleep in her warm bed. Li Ke silently left the room and went away.
When Zuo Hui woke up, he found himself hanging upside down, dressed in only thin clothes. He didn't know where he was in the house. The dark and cold place made him feel cold all over, and his head was also cold and painful.
When Li Ke saw that Zuo Hui had woken up, she removed the gag from his mouth and asked, "Tell me, where are your family's supplies hidden?"
Zuo Hui stared at Li Ke and asked, "Is it Xiao Yi who wants to target our Zuo family? Are you one of Xiao Yi's people? Or one of the Jian family?"
Li Ke stabbed Zuo Hui in the left arm with a knife: "Where do you hide your family's supplies?"
Zuo Hui was so cold he was almost unconscious, but the knife wound brought him back to his senses: "If you let me go, I can give you enough supplies for one person to last a lifetime."
Li Ke kicked the stove next to him over and placed it under Zuo Hui's head, then plunged a knife into his right arm: "Where do you hide your family's supplies?"
Zuo Hui felt like he had encountered a madman. He said painfully, "Put me down, and I'll tell you, if you keep hanging me like this, I'll really freeze to death."
Li Ke remained unmoved and swung his knife again. Zuo Hui was dizzy but still managed to stop him in time: "I'll talk, I'll talk. It's an ice factory in the Fifth District. My family lives there. My family has an agreement with the shelter. You can't touch our supplies."
Li Ke put the man down, asked for the exact address, then knocked him unconscious again and put him into her space. The place Zuo Hui mentioned wasn't far from here. Li Ke calculated the time, and if all went well, she could get everything done before 4 a.m.
When Li Ke arrived at the ice factory in the fifth district, he couldn't see anyone inside from the outside. Only a sliver of light shone through one of the windows. Li Ke approached and listened for a while. He heard people playing cards inside, and judging from the sound, there were probably five or six of them.
The windows and doors of the house were sealed very tightly to keep it warm, so Li Ke couldn't even find a crack to do anything. It seemed he would have to make some noise.
Li Ke first locked the iron gate from the outside, smashed the glass in the window with a hammer, then cut through the insulation inside and threw in more than a dozen tear gas canisters.
The people inside the warehouse heard the sound of a window being smashed and were about to open the door to see what was happening, but the door was locked from the outside. The leader inside was startled and shouted to the others, "Climb over the window and see what's going on!"
Before they even reached the window, they saw a string of black lumps suddenly emerge from it, like sheep defecating. By the time they realized what was happening, the choking, headache-inducing, and uncomfortable smoke had already spread rapidly.
Judging that the time was about right, Li Ke, wearing a gas mask, opened the warehouse door and rushed in. He quickly knocked out the several people who were already dizzy and then tied them up, covering their heads.
Then came the violent dismantling and breaking of locks. Li Ke ransacked all the warehouses and basements. The Zuo family was indeed very wealthy, but they had far too few guards—only six people. Perhaps they trusted the safety of the shelter, but unfortunately, they ran into Li Ke.
Li Ke also confiscated the guards' pistols. The smoke and harmful gases in the room had mostly dissipated. To prevent the guards from freezing to death, Li Ke thoughtfully covered them with blankets and closed the door before leaving.
At 8:30 a.m., Li Ke arrived at the back slope of the seventh district. The sky was still overcast with light snow falling, and the sun hadn't come out for more than two months.
Li Ke found a room with doors and windows, blocked the exit, and then opened his small insulated room to rest for a few hours before visiting the next place after dark.
Li Meng sat on the plane and watched helplessly as the man glided into the woods and disappeared. She had a feeling that this man would never appear again.
