Jiang Xi had a premonition that she would soon know the truth about the bell and about the two parallel worlds.
A knock sounded on the door, and Jiang Xi composed herself as Yan Zheng released her shoulder.
"Come in."
It is Yan Jing'an.
He must have been up all night; his eyes were grizzled and his hair was disheveled and falling across his forehead, completely devoid of his usual refined demeanor.
Yan Jing'an paused when he saw Jiang Xi's reddened eyes. He had seen Jiang Xi's nightmare last night.
"Have you found anything?" The voice was cold, with a hint of tired hoarseness.
At this moment, he became calmer than ever before.
Jiang Xi thought for a moment and said after careful consideration, "Yes, but I can't say for now."
After she finished speaking, Yan Jing'an frowned, looking at her red and swollen eyes, and a sense of helplessness inexplicably rose in his heart.
He couldn't do anything about Jiang Xi, but he felt like he was being driven crazy by her torment. He desperately wanted to know the truth and even hoped that Jiang Xi could bring him good news.
For example, she might still be alive. For example, the body frozen in the river might just be a vessel, allowing her to go to another world like the two people in front of her, while still retaining her life.
That way, at least he'll have a reason to comfort himself during countless midnight dreams.
Yan Jing'an leaned against the door frame, examining the bell still jingling on the window, and asked her, "Just tell me, is this bell very eerie?"
Jiang Xi also looked over, and she said meaningfully, "It's not evil. Perhaps she can tell us the reason why all these time-space intersections happened."
After saying that, she looked at Yan Jing'an and said, "And what you want to know, you might find out the answer tonight. I will enter your dream again."
As soon as she finished speaking, there was a rustling sound from next door; it must be Lin getting up.
Yan Zheng stood up: "You've been up all night, let's rest a bit more. I'll go prepare breakfast."
As she walked out, she grabbed Yan Jing'an and pushed him outside, then closed the door behind her for Jiang Xi.
As soon as he left, Jiang Xi's back slumped. In fact, she felt pressured in front of Yan Jing'an; she could sense his anxiety and restlessness.
However, before the whole truth is revealed, she doesn't think it's a good choice to tell them what happened last night.
The message she received in her dream was that the bell could save lives.
In this world, Jiang Xi gave the bell to Du Ling, which enabled her to fully recover from her serious illness. Her grandmother said that the bell could save her life. So, did Jiang Xi die in the snow disaster because she no longer had the bell?
She believed that if she revealed these details now, today would inevitably be a chaotic day.
Jiang Xi is dead, but Lin is alive. It's hard to guarantee that Yan Jing'an won't have a sudden change in mood and do something that's hard to control.
Most importantly, there were also things she didn't quite understand.
What are birthmarks?
She had never experienced such intense pain in her previous dreams, and yesterday she was in pain for almost half the night.
Does this mean that Lin's bell has some inexplicable connection with her, or that it's trying to tell her something?
And since it's a parallel world, why has she never seen that bell? Her grandmother never mentioned it to her until her death.
The pain from last night hadn't completely subsided; her head and back still ached slightly. Jiang Xi lay back down, eager to do something more; she wanted to enter a dream again.
Unexpectedly, I slept better than ever before this time.
When she woke up, she felt like she had been sleeping in her brain. She opened the window and saw the sun shining brightly outside, with the sounds of cicadas and birds filling the courtyard.
It seems that one cannot enter the Bell Dream during the day.
Jiang Xi stretched and was about to climb out when she smelled a wonderful fragrance. She looked around for the source of the fragrance and finally realized that it was from the flowers she had planted under the window that had bloomed.
She quickly changed her clothes and put on her shoes, almost putting them on the wrong feet, while Little Black followed behind her.
When I went outside, I saw a vibrant blue-purple hue under the window, interspersed with occasional touches of yellow, somewhat resembling irises. I leaned closer and smelled the strong fragrance of the flowers.
The sound of water came from behind the kitchen. Jiang Xi picked up Xiao Hei and went around to see Yan Zheng and Lin Zheng doing something in the pond. Lin was on the bank, while Yan Zheng's legs were submerged in the water.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
Lin saw that she was awake, her eyes were smiling, and there were shallow dimples on her cheeks. Because she had been bending over, her face was flushed with a thin layer of sweat. She happily waved the things in her hand: "Planting lotus roots."
For some reason, Jiang Xi suddenly recalled the image of Lin Chi from her dream, and felt a tightness in her chest. Afraid that the two would notice something was wrong, she quickly went over and squatted down by the pond.
Yan Zheng took the lotus root section that Lin handed him and asked, "How did you sleep?"
Jiang Xi smiled mischievously: "Very good."
Yan Zheng bent down and stuffed the lotus root into the silt at the bottom of the pond. Holding his breath, he said to Jiang Xi, "I left you some rice in the pot, your favorite stir-fried cured pork with wild scallions."
Having just woken up, and still feeling the pain, she didn't have much of an appetite.
Looking around, Jiang Xi asked curiously, "Where's Yan Jing'an?"
"He went into the woods without Lin following him. I guess he wanted some peace and quiet. He should be fine."
Jiang Xi hummed in agreement, knowing that Yan Jing'an must be bursting with pent-up emotions, and that it would be good for him to be quiet.
Yan Zheng felt that her voice was weak, so he looked up at her and asked, "You had a nightmare last night and kept crying out in pain. I couldn't wake you up. Is your condition not good?"
Jiang Xi glanced at him and nodded.
Yan Zheng stopped what he was doing, looked at her with his dark eyes, and asked seriously, "Give up, or wait another day?"
Jiang Xi was acting very strangely last night. He didn't mention it this morning, but he finally couldn't hold back anymore.
Personally speaking, whether it's Lin or the other Jiang Xi, he doesn't want her to waste too much energy on this.
Jiang Xi let out a long sigh, as if making a decision, or perhaps to convince herself: "I have a feeling that I should know all the answers tonight."
She was truly relaxed in front of Yan Zheng. Even if she didn't say anything, Yan Zheng would always find out immediately. But there were some things that had to be done, and she could no longer run away from them.
She smiled and comforted him, "Actually, it's nothing. I just kept having nightmares all night, and I felt very tired when I woke up."
Yan Zheng looked her over for a moment, then nodded and urged her to go eat.
In the late afternoon, Jiang Xi was feeding the rabbits. The rabbits had already started plucking their own fur. Jiang Xi estimated that they would give birth in the next couple of days. She had just specifically instructed Yan Zheng and Lin to give them food and water on time.
Yan Jing'an had just returned when he heard the noise. Jiang Xi pursed her lips and said, "You're back."
Yan Jing'an didn't speak. Jiang Xi thought he was still upset, so she awkwardly brushed away the pebbles on top of the rabbit hutch.
