Chapter 127 The Medium

The bell rang again, and Jiang Xi's heart pounded.

She was all too familiar with that bell.

The bell is shaped like a trumpet and has patterns engraved on it. It contains three plectrums.

It has the same shape as the handbell of the girl in the cave.

Jiang Xi felt a chill run down her spine; she had a very uncomfortable feeling in her heart and quickly asked Lin, "Where did this bell come from?"

Her voice was a little cold, and her expression was also a little off. Lin was a little scared and carefully replied, "Grandma... gave it to me."

grandmother?

Jiang Xi asked, "Is she my biological grandmother?"

Lin felt he understood and quickly nodded, "I guess so."

When did you receive it?

When I was little...

Jiang Xi was even more confused. Lin came from outside, so the bell didn't belong to that blacksmith alone.

In a primeval forest in another world, three identical bells appear in different locations.

There must be some connection.

Too many questions lingered in my mind.

Jiang Xi glanced at the bewildered Lin, suppressed her thoughts, and asked Lin with a smile, "Last time you asked us about Yansu, what kind of place is Yansu?"

When Yan Su was mentioned, Lin relaxed a lot and slowly said, "Home... Mom and Dad... are both here."

No wonder she reacted so strongly when Yan Su was mentioned last time.

Jiang Xi felt a pain in her palm. Looking down, she realized that she had gripped the bell too tightly, and the bell's plectrum was digging into her palm, leaving a crescent-shaped purplish-red mark.

She gathered her thoughts and returned the bell to Lin.

"Don't be nervous, let's continue cleaning."

Lin took the bell, placed it on the table, and continued making the bed.

As Jiang Xi turned around, she glanced at the bell again.

Lin laid out a fur cover on the bed that she had made herself. Surprisingly, the fur was very soft and she had cleaned it very well.

Jiang Xi suddenly wanted to know more about Lin, so she asked, "Did you come down from a plane?"

Lin nodded, then thought for a moment and said, "The plane... hummed... and fell down."

Plane crash?

Jiang Xi asked again, "Did the plane crash? Were there any other people on board besides you?"

These words seemed to touch a raw nerve with Lin. Realizing what had happened, she lowered her head and remained silent.

Just as Jiang Xi was about to comfort her, she suddenly said, "They're all dead... burned to ashes."

They're all dead, burned to ashes. Hearing this, Jiang Xi paused, her hands still busy making the bed. Did that mean the rest of the people were dead?

Jiang Xi was about to say a few words of comfort when she saw Yan Zheng carrying a wooden window into the yard through the window.

She hurried out to lend a hand, but unexpectedly Yan Jing'an also came, wearing wooden slippers and clattering behind her, carrying a hammer in his hand.

He had a world-weary expression on his face.

The pottery kiln house originally had two windows, one at the front and one at the back, creating cross-ventilation.

There wasn't enough time, so Yan Zheng quickly made a wooden window, just like the one they used in their house, with an opening on the side.

Remove the wooden planks from the front window and install the wooden window.

As he was hammering nails, Yan Zheng's gaze inadvertently fell on the bell on the table, and he frowned.

Yan Jing'an then boarded up the window behind him again.

After everything was done, the two prepared to go back. When they reached the courtyard gate, Yan Zheng waved to Jiang Xi, asking her to come over.

Jiang Xi said to Lin, "You're almost done tidying up. Come find me in the front yard when you're done."

Lin nodded and said, "Okay."

Before leaving, Jiang Xi told Lin again, "This basin is for you to wash up. The water is collected at the back of our room."

She wanted Lin to adapt to normal life as soon as possible.

After all, she was in a rather disheveled state, with messy hair and black mud all over her face and hands. If this continued, she would easily fall ill.

Fearing she wouldn't understand, Jiang Xi demonstrated with her hand in the basin.

Lin suddenly understood and nodded emphatically to indicate that he knew.

Jiang Xi then closed the door and went out.

Yan Zheng was still waiting for her at the door.

Yan Jing'an had already left, and Jiang Xi ran over and hugged his waist.

Yan Zheng was tackled by her, and he smiled at her. The two of them walked arm in arm into the front yard. He asked Jiang Xi, "What's the deal with that bell?"

It couldn't have been picked up by that child in the graveyard.

Jiang Xi said, "The child told me that it was given to her by her grandmother when she was a child."

Yan Zheng frowned and said, "This is the second time the bell has appeared. If the little girl's bell was a coincidence, then why is it this time? It can't be a coincidence either."

Jiang Xi also felt something was wrong, and she even had other guesses.

She analyzed with Yan Zheng: "Do you think it's possible that this bell is a medium?"

"And Lin also said that everyone on the plane died, and only she survived. A plane crash! She survived, it sounds unbelievable."

"Do you think it might also be related to this bell?"

Yan Zheng pinched the soft flesh of her earlobe, thought for a moment, and said, "If she came here because of the bell, then we came here even without the bell, didn't we? We don't even have someone like you who can talk to the bell in dreams."

This stumped Jiang Xi as well; she couldn't figure it out at all.

Finally, in a fit of pique, she said in a defiant tone, "Oh well, forget it. What a hassle. This broken bell is just a nuisance. Does it think it can take us back?"

Yan Zheng found her exasperated appearance amusing. He stepped forward, took her hand, and wouldn't let go no matter how Jiang Xi tried to shake him off.

Lin's arrival was just a minor incident; the house repairs still had to continue.

Yan Jing'an's hands are still swollen, and he can't do much work.

Their original plan was to repair the house first and then the courtyard wall.

However, house repairs require heavy work such as replacing wooden beams, which he cannot do alone; it takes two men to support the wooden beams.

Therefore, Yan Zheng overturned the original plan and changed it to repairing the outer wall first and then the main house.

Originally, the two yards were separated by a three-meter-wide path. If they are demolished and rebuilt first, leaving the yards wide open, it won't be safe at night with so many animals.

Yan Zheng said that they would build a wall first, then demolish it to enclose the road into the yard. After the new wall was repaired, they would demolish the old wall that was running horizontally inside.

And so, the two of them embarked on their renovation project with great enthusiasm.

Yan Zheng was responsible for transporting and mixing the clay and sand used for bricklaying.

Because of her experience building the deer pen last time, Jiang Xi took the initiative to take on the task of building the wall, and she was quite adept at it this time.

Although it was a bit slow, she thought the style was still quite neat.

Yan Jing'an moved a wooden stool and sat in the middle of the road, saying a few words here and giving directions there, which annoyed Jiang Xi to no end.

Jiang Xi finally snapped when Yan Jing'an told her to add another stone.

She said fiercely, "Yan Jing'an, I've noticed you've become quite talkative lately. What's wrong with you? Have you been possessed?"

Jiang Xi used to think he was cunning and deep-thinking, but she didn't know when it started. Yan Jing'an was no longer taciturn and was completely different from when he first arrived.
