收拾完的严景安从自己的房间里出来,看姜曦一直盯着八仙桌。
He joined in, asking, "What are you looking at so intently?"
Jiang Xi touched her chin and said, "Don't you feel like something's missing?"
Yan Jing'an was also completely baffled. What was missing? Nothing was missing.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Ancient painting? Vase?"
When Jiang Xi heard him mention the vase, her eyes lit up immediately. That's it! She turned to Yan Jing'an and said, "You really are quick-witted."
After saying that, she hurriedly left the house.
Yan Jing'an stood there, looking puzzled.
Is this a compliment or an insult?
Jiang Xi ran around the pottery kiln for a long time and finally found a vase shaped like a jade pot spring bottle under the bed.
The vase has a simple shape, with a narrow mouth and a round body, and is decorated with simple flower and bird paintings.
She strolled around outside and casually picked a few branches from the tree. The branches were newly sprouted, soft and elastic, with tender green buds on them. Jiang Xi put the branches in a vase and placed them on the octagonal table.
The vase and tender branches are a perfect match for the octagonal table, instantly giving the house a different feel and adding a touch of life.
We need to add more things to this house in the future, otherwise it will feel empty and lacks a sense of home.
After packing my things, I fed Xiao Hei a meal.
Jiang Xi soaked the wood ear mushrooms and wild mushrooms to prepare for the housewarming party that evening. She took a shovel and a basket and went to the hillside next to the stone house to dig for wild vegetables.
This is the perfect time for everything to grow. The hillside is covered with shepherd's purse, alfalfa, and dandelions with pink flowers. Everywhere you look, there is tender green, which is very pleasant.
Jiang Xi picked out tender wild vegetables, gathering quite a few of each kind.
When she got back, she found the yard empty. Not knowing where Yan Jing'an had gone, Jiang Xi didn't think much of it and went into the kitchen to start cooking.
After picking, washing, and chopping the vegetables and arranging all the side dishes, I came out and saw that it was getting dark, but I still couldn't see the two people. I couldn't help but feel a little worried.
She couldn't sit still, so she wandered around the yard a few times, glancing at the woods every now and then. Feeling anxious, she went to feed the rabbits and sheep, milk the sheep, and find something to do to pass the time.
As the sunset faded and there was still no sign of anyone, Jiang Xi began to worry. She took out two torches and placed them on the lampstand at the courtyard gate, hoping that the two returning people would see the light.
Afterwards, she sat on the stone bench in the yard with Xiao Hei in her arms and waited. It wasn't even summer yet, but the cicadas were already chirping, which made her feel irritated.
After a while, seeing a dark figure emerge from the woods, Jiang Xi hurriedly went to greet it.
As I got closer, I realized it was Yan Jing'an. He was carrying a heavy basket on his back, and his face was covered in sweat.
Jiang Xi quickly went to help him, and asked, "Where did you go? Did you see Yan Zheng?"
Yan Jing'an wiped his sweat, shook his head, and said, "Hasn't he come back yet?"
"No, we've been out for most of the day."
Ever since she told Yan Zheng that she didn't want him to go too far away, he rarely came back this late so as not to put her mind at ease.
Yan Jing'an reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll go take a look."
"Then don't go too far, take the torch with you."
Yan Jing'an nodded, put down the basket, and left the yard. Before leaving, he turned back to Jiang Xi and said, "Take a look and see if the things in the basket are usable."
Jiang Xi then remembered the basket on the ground. She opened it and found a stone mill inside.
It's not very big, only twenty or thirty centimeters, but it's enough. This is exactly what they need right now.
She felt a touch of emotion, a feeling of warmth from her friends. Her heart softened inexplicably, realizing that everyone wanted to make the housewarming party as perfect as possible.
A moment later, she heard Yan Zheng's voice coming from the woods ahead.
Jiang Xi quickly put down the lid of the basket and went out to greet them.
As they got closer, they saw the two men carrying something back. Yan Zheng was covered in sweat, and Yan Jing'an behind him was also grimacing from carrying it. Jiang Xi asked, "What are you carrying?"
The two were too exhausted to reply to her. It wasn't until they carried the things into the ceramic hut where they used to live that Jiang Xi, holding a torch, was able to see what the things looked like.
It looks like a calf, with a brownish-black body covered in large, muscular muscles, and two horns on its head.
Yan Jing'an took a breath and said, "It looks like a wild buffalo to me."
Then he said to Yan Zheng, "I have to say, you're really something. You fought all that and carried it back."
Yan Zheng's arms were trembling, clearly indicating that he was quite exhausted.
"What else can we do? If we don't bring it back, it's all for nothing."
He hadn't initially planned to hunt something this big, but then he discovered it was a sub-adult, and happened to be alone. This was a busy time, and if he could bring this guy back, he wouldn't have to go hunting for several days.
He then thought of the poisoned arrows he had brought with him. They were the same stone arrowheads that Yan Jing'an had made earlier. He wasn't sure he could handle wooden ones, but he could try stone ones.
Without much thought, he found a good spot and made his move.
Unexpectedly, he hit it on the first try. This calf is actually quite fast. Yan Zheng chased after it for almost ten minutes before it finally collapsed.
Seeing such a large prey, Jiang Xi was unsure how to proceed: "So, shall we deal with this today?"
Yan Zheng took off his thick sweater and said, "I have to clean up tonight. With the internal organs still inside, and it's hot, it won't be good tomorrow."
Yan Jing'an nodded and said, "Let's light a couple more torches."
Then he said to Jiang Xi, "Consider it a big celebration for moving, we'll have stewed pork bones tonight."
Jiang Xi smiled and said, "Okay, you guys pack up, I'll cook you a big meal. But do you want to cook it here?"
Yan Zheng said, "Right here. We'll fill two more buckets with water later. We can't go to the river; it's a bit dangerous to go at night."
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Wasn't there a big basin before? We can bury the blood and some of the unwanted internal organs we dissected later." With that, he found a bucket in the house and went to the mountain spring behind the brick house to fetch water.
Jiang Xi went back into the house to fetch torches, daggers, and axes for them.
Yan Jing'an then took several large basins from the house.
This scene has the atmosphere of slaughtering a pig for the Lunar New Year in the countryside.
The three of them busied themselves with the task. Jiang Xi couldn't bear to watch such a scene, so Yan Zheng handed her the beef liver, beef heart, and large bones. Jiang Xi took them to the kitchen, leaving the rest to the two of them to handle.
Fresh beef bones don't need to be blanched. Just soak them in clean water for a while, and then you can put them directly into the pot to stew. After removing the scum, the soup will become clear in no time. Then she put the beef heart in to stew together.
Slice the fresh beef liver thinly and marinate it with a little pepper. I'll make a beef liver and onion salad later.
