Chapter 60: The First Battle Outside the Village
Not long after everyone left the village, Kakashi called Ino alone.
She turned her head and looked over.
"Although this is within the territory of the Land of Fire, we need you to walk in front and use your perception ability to conduct detection." Kakashi said in a commanding tone.
Ino glanced at Asuma and saw him nod. She knew that this was the result of the discussion between the two jonin.
"Okay, I got it." She accepted the task happily.
It's weird to say it, not counting the Jonins, there are two teams and six Genins, but she is the only ninja with detection ability. Look at the eighth team led by Yuhi Kurenai, the three Genins have detection ability!
Karin's Kagura mind's eye can detect chakra abnormalities within a range of dozens of kilometers. There is a fat man named Nakayoshi in the Hidden Mist Village whose detection range is even larger and more detailed, and can even sense chakra as tiny as that of insects. Ino is not a specialized detection ninja. Her perception ability is a by-product of the increase in her spiritual energy, and it is now a part-time job.
She said, "Teacher Kakashi, my detection range is a five-kilometer radius. Don't get too far away from me."
Kakashi nodded, "Okay, I understand."
The formation doesn't need to be too complicated. Ino is in front, Kakashi is at the rear, and Asuma leads the rest of the Genin in the middle. A group of eight people walk through the woods towards the mission location.
They encountered two groups of Konoha Village ninjas on the way. Ino discovered them early and immediately signaled to the rear. Asuma ordered her to go around them and not make contact.
"Why not contact them? Aren't they all ninjas from the village?" Naruto was very confused.
His question earned him a punch from Sakura.
"Idiot! We learned that in school! When you are outside the village, you must avoid any factors that may interfere with the mission, including encountering ninjas. Avoid them if you can."
Naruto had three question marks on his head, and he was even more confused. Could the ninjas in the village be enemies? Aren't we all family? Sasuke felt that this guy's behavior was embarrassing for him, and said indifferently: "What if it was an enemy in disguise?"
Naruto thought for more than ten seconds: "Then shouldn't we expose them?"
Sakura covered her forehead and gritted her teeth as she said, "We have a mission! During the mission, our mission is the most important thing! Do you understand, idiot?"
In the evening of the next day, they arrived at the village where the person who commissioned the task was located, a small mountain village that looked very peaceful.
Kakashi was promoted to jonin much earlier than Asuma. Although they were classmates, according to the rules of the ninja world, he was the senior and the mission was naturally his main responsibility.
Not long after entering the village, they found the person who issued the task, who was the village chief of this small village.
The thin and skinny village chief spoke indignantly when he saw the ninjas arriving.
"Those guys are simply evil spirits. They appear every year during the harvest season. We will never compromise! But we don't have strong military force, so we hire you to help us eliminate the bandits. Please!" The village chief's tone was extremely sincere.
Kakashi's Team 7 is on the left, Asuma's Team 10 is on the right.
The two jonin looked at each other and Asuma nodded, meaning that Kakashi would make the decision.
Kakashi hesitated for a moment and said, "Please tell me the specific information."
"Yes!" The village chief was very respectful. He found a young man with a simple and honest face and said, "This is Dongfeng. He was originally a member of the Baki bandit group. He was the one who told me that Baki kidnapped my granddaughter!"
The village chief began to choke up as he spoke, and he was interrupted by Ino after crying twice.
"Um. Excuse me, what is the name of this bandit group?"
The village chief didn't understand why she asked that, but he explained, "The leader of the bandits is called Baki, so we call them Baki's gang."
Ino asked about Buggy's height and body shape, and found that it was completely different from the one she remembered. She was relieved. It turned out that they had the same name. She was shocked. She glanced at Sakura with a strange expression. Girl, your rookie opponent is here! Kakashi didn't care what the bandit leader's name was. It didn't matter if it was Buggy or the name was reversed.
He looked at the honest man who was suspected to be a former bandit, Dongfeng.
"Since you were once a partner of this gang of bandits, you must know their location?"
The honest man nodded repeatedly and said he could lead the way for them.
The village chief hopes that everyone can rest for a night and go to wipe out the bandits tomorrow.
Kakashi believed that night fighting was also a form of training, so he ordered the honest man Dongfeng to lead the way, and he wanted to wipe out the bandits overnight.
Taking advantage of darkness, everyone sneaked into the mountains and soon arrived deep in the mountains. This was the border between the Kingdom of Fire and the Kingdom of Rivers.
Ino used her perception to observe the village and couldn't help but sigh, "What a talent! The village is surrounded by cliffs on the north, east and west sides, and there is only a small path in the south that leads into the mountain. It seems that there is a natural cave inside? These guys dug a mountain road and built three checkpoints along the way."
She asked the former bandit Dongfeng: "Was this stronghold inherited from the previous bandits, or was it built by the current bandits?"
Dongfeng, a rather honest-looking bandit, replied, "I heard that it was built by Boss Buggy."
Ino patted his shoulder and said, "We in Konoha Village need people who understand architecture. When we meet Buggy later, point him out to me."
"I understand, I understand!"
More than ten minutes later, everyone saw the three checkpoints built by the bandits based on the terrain. Looking at the thick rocks and the defensive forces, it really seemed like one man blocking the pass against ten thousand.
Unfortunately, these things can only resist ordinary soldiers, but cannot stop a group of fierce guys called ninjas who are actually mages and warriors.
More than a dozen bandits were standing on the three-meter-high gate of the village, holding bows and arrows, staring down at the group of strangers. Several archers also appeared from the watchtowers on both sides, with their bowstrings fully drawn, waiting for them to come into range.
"Teacher Kakashi?" Sakura looked at Kakashi with hope. She knew very well that there was no way the two sides could resolve the issue, but she still stubbornly believed that she was a child and a student, and hoped that the "adults" would help solve the problem.
"I don't need your help, let me do it!" Sasuke was full of fighting spirit. Without waiting for Kakashi's orders, he cast a fireball technique on the gate of the village.
He used all his strength this time, a C-level ninjutsu, and the fire jutsu which was known for its destructive power, so its power was even more powerful.
The fireball flew more than ten meters and hit the gate of the village hard, followed by a violent explosion.
The explosion blew the gate to pieces. Many bandits at the gate and behind the gate were killed on the spot, and many more were seriously injured. Broken limbs and arms flew all over the sky. Many bandits were burned by the flames and let out screams like pigs being slaughtered.
