Chapter 38 You Forgot to Kiss Me Today

Chapter 38 You Forgot to Kiss Me Today

After a slew of tests, it was already dark when they returned from the hospital. Gu Weiyi walked Li Wenjing home. Her right hand was so tightly bandaged that she couldn't move it, and her left hand was also in so much pain that she couldn't move it. He walked behind her, carrying her bag. Before Li Wenjing could say anything, he reached the door, took out his key, as if he had already known where it was. He opened the door, turned on the light, settled her down, and started cooking.

Li Wenjing sat on the sofa, looking at his back. He was busy in the kitchen, her usual panda apron wrapped around him, the white string laced around the back of her black shirt, moving with the movement of his cooking. Li Wenjing called out to him, and he quickly put down his spatula, turned around, and asked, "What's up?" Li Wenjing just kept laughing.

"What are you laughing at?"

"You're so cute, cute!"

Wen Jing stared at him intently. The beef cooked in red wine was not yet cooked, but his face suddenly turned red. After a long while, he squeezed out a word, "Is there anything else you need?"

"there is none left."

He spread his hands, and the giant panda's two chubby paws just rested on his chest. Wen Jing laughed so hard that she fell on the sofa. She had the illusion that he was taking care of her and cooking for her. Everything was so natural. He didn't even say a word, as if they had been lovers living together for a long time and knew what to do without him saying anything.

The dishes were served, three of them: pork rib soup, vegetables, and Li Wenjing's favorite beef, beef stewed in red wine, a French dish. He cut the meat into pieces and fed her mouthful by mouthful with rice.

After eating two bites, Li Wenjing leaned back in her chair with a smile. No matter how much he fed her, she would not open her mouth.

"My mom never fed me like this. It made me feel like a child. Have you ever fed anyone else before?"

"I fed the patient."

"Where's your girlfriend?"

"I've already said it, I haven't discussed it."

"I don't believe it. You've never liked anyone before?"

"If I tell you the truth, I haven't, but you don't believe me. If I say I have, you'll be upset later. What can I say then?" He sighed deeply, put down the soup bowl, and looked at her with his wrist propped up on his cheek. "Do girls really care about a boy's relationship history?"

"Don't you care?"

"I care, of course you're willing to share. You must have had a boyfriend before. What kind of boy was he?"

"He's a very bad boy, even worse than you. I have poor taste and can never find a good one."

"What is good?"

"You can't be too poor, and you can't be too rich either. You have to be better off than my family, with a car and a house, a good education, at least not without a college degree, tall, handsome, kind, and good to others. But you can't be too soft-hearted, or you'll be easily deceived." Li Wenjing bumped her forehead against his. "Do you meet my requirements?"

"Everything is satisfactory, okay, let's get married."

"No, that's too casual. If I really agreed, you wouldn't agree."

"How do you know I won't?"

"I just know that men only talk about it." Li Wenjing opened her mouth wide, "I'm hungry and want to eat."

After dinner, he went to clean up. Li Wenjing lay on the sofa, scrolling through her phone with the only finger she could move. Suddenly, he lifted her up and took her to the bathroom to wash up. He told her to go to bed early. He leaned very close, his breath floating on her face. She looked at the two of them in the mirror. For the first time, she saw herself and him at the same time, looking into her eyes through the mirror. He lowered his head, as if smiling, and washed his face and brushed his teeth beside her. His short, slightly curly brown hair swayed in her hand and rubbed against her arm, itching like a puppy. If her hand was not injured, she would have wanted to touch his head. Li Wenjing had another illusion. The two of them had indeed lived together for a very long time, so long that she had forgotten when it started. She leaned into his arms, and he hugged her shoulders. They looked at each other in the mirror together.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

Li Wenjing raised her head and looked at him, "I was thinking, you forgot to kiss me today."

He kissed her, and their lips lingered for who knows how long. He pinched her cheek and said, "It's time to go to bed. There's still a lot to do tomorrow."

Back in the room, she wanted to change into her pajamas, but one of her hands was unable to move, so Gu Weiyi helped her change and closed his eyes in front of her. Li Wenjing smiled and said, "What? It's not like you haven't seen it before."

He laughed, his face flushed again. Li Wenjing kissed his cheek, and it was indeed hot. He opened his eyes, and he was only half dressed, with his right hand still in the loose nightgown. Li Wenjing leaned on his chest, raised her eyes and looked at him, he held her in his arms, his hands moved lightly, like feathers, stroking her body, his lips imprinted her lips out of shape, there was no need to put on the half-dressed nightgown, he turned off the lights, lay on the bed, he continued to kiss her lips, sliding all the way down, filling the collarbone, and continued to overflow, all the way to the fire burning in the water.

The next morning, she woke up first, with her head resting on his arm. Li Wenjing rubbed her forehead against his cheek. He opened his eyes and said good morning to her.

"Did you sleep well?"

Li Wenjing was about to reply when her stomach growled twice. She turned and smiled at the ceiling. He laughed too, saying, "I usually go out for exercise around this time. I don't feel like getting up today. Sigh... I need to make breakfast..."

"I can eat you."

Li Wenjing pretended to bite his shoulder. He held her in his arms without saying anything. His fingers were on her back, as if he was looking for something on her body. Li Wenjing leaned over and listened to his heartbeat in his chest.

"Too early?" Li Wenjing asked him, "Have you ever thought about doing this with me before you came here?"

"Honestly, I can't promise you anything right now. I thought giving you my credit card, passport, and ID card would be a pledge, but you don't need them. Even if I asked you to get married, you wouldn't agree. I don't understand many things, about you, about our relationship. Even if you and I sleep together, you're still a mystery to me. It might take me a lifetime to understand you."

"Generally speaking, men who don't make promises and say they're deeply hurt are scumbags." Li Wenjing paused. "Promises aren't just empty words; they're responsibilities. You're committed to me, and I'm committed to you. I'm sorry, but I think we should have a good talk after this busy period is over. However, I feel that things have improved a lot between us, and so have you. I'm very happy."

She was very honest about it, very comfortable in front of him, telling him all her feelings, and he could pick up on her emotions, the insecurities and anxieties behind them.

"I know I'm not good enough," he said. "After meeting you, I often see my shortcomings. I used to wrap myself up so tightly, afraid to face anything. It's you who pierced through my packaging, allowing me to grow and become better. This feeling is painful and joyful. I may like you, or should I say, I'm in love with you. What about you?"

His eyes were like water, and just by looking at her, her eyes became gentle.

"I'm not a romantic woman. What is love? From liking to loving. I can only say that I like you. It's hard to say what signs there are for this kind of thing, and I can't prove it. When did I start loving you? Is it just the simple attraction between men and women... But in my heart, I just like you very much. I like the food you cook, your looks, your smell, and I feel safe sleeping with you. I like everything about you."

"Thanks."

He bent down and kissed her. While they were kissing, there was a sound at the door. It sounded like Yu Di came back, followed by a loud cry. She knocked on the bedroom door several times.

"Wenjing, are you home?"

"What's wrong?"

Li Wenjing quickly got up and asked her while putting on her clothes. She remained silent, with only intermittent crying sounds coming from her.
