Chapter 58: Lust and hunger, blood falling between breasts
Suddenly, her stomach growled twice, and along with her lust came a surge of hunger. The blood between her breasts dripped down, a hot sensation on her lower abdomen. She opened her eyes, and his gaze was fixed on her, his brown pupils enveloping a tiny image of her. He was also in her eyes, and he dropped his hands to her waist.
"You must be hungry. There will be something delicious later."
Li Wenjing pressed his hand and said, "I don't believe it. I'm the only one who can't get used to eating the food you rich people eat. Knife on the left, fork on the right, or fork on the left, knife on the right? Do you have foie gras, frogs, or giant snails?"
"If you don't like it, we can go have a barbecue after this."
"Is it a date?"
He nodded.
Li Wenjing asked him again: "Are you happy?"
"certainly……"
Before he could finish, Li Wenjing quickly swerved to grab his arm and lifted his shirt sleeve. The needle marks on his arm had almost completely healed; he hadn't overused medication that week. Just as she breathed a sigh of relief, he lifted his hand and locked her in his arms, resting his chin against her ear.
"Oh my god! Surprise inspection!"
"I'm afraid you're lying to me. I need to see for myself."
"What is the judgment?"
"You're not lying."
"Shouldn't you apologize to me?"
The mirror reflected their faces. He was wearing a black suit, his shirt unzipped, revealing a white arm wrapped around her chest. A watch ticked in time with her heartbeat. His hair had grown longer these days, now falling onto his collar, just like when Li Wenjing first met him. But he kept it neatly styled, even the curls tucked behind his ears were just the right amount of gentleness. He had a beautiful face, and he smiled at her, revealing pearly white teeth. Li Wenjing had longed for teeth like these. Hers were uneven, like a basin. As an adult, she had tried to correct them, but the results weren't ideal. The doctor said that dental care needed to start early, as it was too late when she was older. She only complained about the doctor's incompetence, but she didn't really blame him. Some marks grow with us. They remain on our bodies, and they can't be removed.
"I'm sorry."
"that's all?"
"What else? What do you want?"
"You." He kissed her from behind her ear to her cheek, making her itch. The place he kissed felt hot and spread, evaporating the fragrance of their two skin and flesh, "Tu es si belle, ma princesse." (You are so beautiful, my princess.)
I've never seen him dressed so formally before. Li Wenjing even joked with him, "Happy Prince, you're much happier than before."
"The Happy Prince is not happy unless he knows nothing or gives up everything and has nothing left but a heart that loves you."
His eyes were calm, like the setting sun casting a peaceful dusk over the grassland, falling on her. "I really want to be with you, to live forever, to be happy forever. Since I met you, I have learned how to love."
Li Wenjing's face felt a little hot, and his heart was beating faster than the hands of his watch, and the sound was transmitted to his palm.
"Oh, how corny."
She pinched his hand, but couldn't help but smile. He left a kiss on the blush on her cheek, "I'm telling the truth, Wenjing. Would you be willing to be with someone like me, to fall in love, or even to get married?"
"What are you talking about?" Li Wenjing didn't expect him to talk about something so far away. Her face froze for a moment, but then she softened it in the way she knew best. She smiled and said to him, "Sure, add my name to your property deed first, and the car, too. Otherwise, forget it. I don't want that cheap love you men have."
"Sure, I'll give you the houses in England and France, as well as the car."
His tone was calm. Li Wenjing straightened her back, turned her head and stared into his eyes, staring at him, as if to confirm whether what he said was true.
"I originally wanted to sell all of these and donate them, but the lawyers all listened to Gustav and refused to help me. Firstly, I have to go back. Also, I've been to the homes of some officials, and even though the country is so poor, they have more cars than Gustav."
"Of course I can't donate! The money goes to people who don't need it, like me. I've never received any."
"Okay—if you're happy, that's fine."
"No? Are you testing the cadres?" Li Wenjing tightened her lips, but couldn't suppress a smile, turning her head to laugh. "If I agree, you won't think I'm trying to get something from you, right?" She immediately turned around and left. "Ah, whether you have money or not, you can be happy. I still like pure, kind, and non-materialistic girls. Look, she's been pretending with you for so long, and now her true colors are revealed..."
Li Wenjing was imitating his words when he covered her mouth. "Bad girl! Stop talking. You've fooled me so many times. Just treat me like a fool and stop torturing me."
"Then tell me, why are you so weird today?"
"I remember you said you came to Africa to work to earn money, not to do voluntary labor. You're very talented and smart and can make a lot of money. I was wrong. I shouldn't have said those words to you at the time. It was so offensive to you. You've helped me so much, and I want to do something for you, so I'm thinking about what you want and what would make you happy."
"that's all?"
"It's that simple," Gu Weiyi said. "I've been thinking about it for a few days. You have everything you need. Even without me, you can live well. I now understand what money means to you. Compared to love, the achievements at work and the numbers on your bank account obviously make you feel more secure than me. But I hope you can be happier. It doesn't matter whether you have money or not. Take good care of yourself and get sick less often. I don't care if someone as bad as me can bring you happiness..."
When his tears suddenly fell, she held his hand. He sniffed as if to hold back tears, raised his head and remained silent for a moment, his eyes hidden deep in the eye sockets between his eyebrows. Li Wenjing could only see his wet eyelashes gleaming, and she also remained silent.
"You have to be happy, okay?" After a long time, his lips trembled as he squeezed out a word.
"I don't understand what you're talking about. You always make simple things complicated." She wiped the tears from his face, her fingers slightly cold. "You want a simple life, you want to stay here, I have no objection. And I think things are getting better. The last time I talked to you, it was good. You didn't need the injection anymore. It's just like work. There are so many things to do. If you take a little at a time, you can always get it done."
Finally, he lowered his head and looked at her again, his face turning pale as plaster.
"I know. Thank you. Without you, I wouldn't be here today, or even dare to think about the future—what will happen to us? Will we fall in love, get married, grow old together? Will we have children?"
Li Wenjing laughed. "Let's stop here. I don't even dare to think about having children. What kind of children do you think 'patients' like us can raise?"
"It's just an assumption," he smiled along with her, and after a few seconds, his smile seemed to freeze. "You said you don't like guessing, so I'll tell you what I'm thinking - I'm very sure, I love you, and I only love you in this life, my only one."
She shook her head, then nodded, tears slowly welling in her eyes. They didn't fall, but simply trickled down to the corners of her mouth, where they were caught in his kiss. Kissing a lover's lips felt like they were inseparable. Excitement, trembling, passion, happiness, and the agonizing pain of entanglement all melted into that kiss. When they released each other, their bodies stiffened, their faces pale and blue. The next second, their gazes locked, they kissed again.
By the time they arrived at the hotel for the dinner, they were already half an hour late. Gustav was chatting happily with a tall, blonde lady in a royal blue suit. When she saw them, she immediately walked towards them quickly.
"I thought you wouldn't come. I'm very happy to see you and Wenjing." He hugged Gu Weiyi, and then hugged Li Wenjing.
"It's great that you're doing so well now," he nodded to Li Wenjing, "Thank you, Wenjing."
Li Wenjing thought he was here to call for an explanation, but unexpectedly, he didn't mention little Philip at all. He just asked about their work and life. Gu Weiyi seemed to be in a good mood and even joked with Gustav.
"You two are in love, right?"
"Yes, and we're getting ready to get married. You won't object, will you?"
"Noooo!" Gustav laughed, "You don't understand how comfortable single is."
Following his gaze, the tall blonde lady greeted the three of them.
Gu Weiyi laughed and said, "You two are not dating, are you, Jesus? You are so normal now. You finally stop dating young girls and date people your own age."
"Ah—actually, she contacted me first. She got divorced recently."
"Well, at least give the ambassador some face."
Li Wenjing was a little surprised. "Wait, is that lady the ambassador?"
"Yes, you see he has become an honest man. It is indeed necessary to find someone who can control him."
As they were chatting, Philip, with a tall, bronzed beauty on his arm, came over to say hello. Upon seeing him, Li Wenjing tensed up, crossed her arms over her chest, and looked away.
