After thinking about it, Li Ying agreed to Jing Yingyan's request.
"Okay, if you want to go, then we'll go together."
Jing Yingyan nodded seriously.
Time was tight and there was no time to waste. The next day, Li Ying brought Aunt Yang and Lu Qingwan, with Jing Yingyan accompanying them. Also present were Old Madam Chi and Chi En.
Upon seeing Madam Chi, Jing Yingyan couldn't help but frown. Could the talisman Li Ying mentioned be Madam Chi?
Jing Yingyan remembered that Madam Chi's family was from Jiangcheng, so it seemed that Li Ying had made ample preparations.
Chi En knew the purpose of the trip and was very displeased. She found Li Ying and scolded her, "Li Ying, you've gone too far! Don't you know my grandmother is in poor health? How could you let her go to Jiangcheng with you?"
"It's because the old lady was willing to come back to Jiangcheng with me to visit her parents' home, so you can't blame me."
Li Ying knew that Madam Chi was from Jiangcheng, so she went to see her specifically to inquire about the gang. Unexpectedly, she made a surprising discovery: Madam Chi's husband, Old Master Chi, had previously saved the leader of the Jiangcheng gang and possessed a token that allowed him to command the gang.
However, Madam Chi felt that time had passed and worried that the other party would not admit it, so she insisted on going to Jiangcheng with Li Ying.
The reason, of course, was that she wanted to go back to her parents' home for a visit.
"You're absolutely ridiculous!"
Chi En shook her hand helplessly and went back to take care of her grandmother.
We arrived in Jiangcheng after two days and one night.
Jing Yingyan was about to go to the guesthouse when he was stopped by Old Madam Chi.
"Once you arrive in Jiangcheng, will you be allowed to stay in a guesthouse?"
As it turned out, Madam Chi's nephew had already moved away, and the land had been acquired and was being used to build new buildings.
"Let's stay at the guesthouse instead."
Old Madam Chi's brows were full of melancholy.
That's how it is for daughters who marry far away; they might not be able to find their way back to their parents' home the day they return.
Chi En glared at Li Ying. If it weren't for her, her grandmother wouldn't have insisted on coming to Jiangcheng at her age.
Jing Yingyan has acquaintances who can find decent guesthouses, especially since Jiangcheng's economy has recovered in the past two years and there are already some respectable hotels.
Li Ying disagreed with staying in a hotel, so everyone stayed at a guesthouse.
Fortunately, Chenchen drinks cow's milk and doesn't drink breast milk, which makes things much easier for Li Ying.
Madam Chi handed the wooden sign to Li Ying, asking her to go and scout ahead.
As Li Ying and Jing Yingyan left the guesthouse, they saw someone looking in their direction and quickly hid.
"They're waiting for us."
Jing Yingyan frowned: "Li Ying, this is a one-time exception. Don't do anything so impulsive again!"
Li Ying smiled and said, "There aren't many people who can make me act this impulsively. Zhou Qi is my man, and I can't just stand by and watch him die."
What about your people?
Jing Yingyan frowned; this woman really didn't hide her true feelings.
The two found a group of people living in an old-fashioned manor in the north of the city. These people were all part of a group, though on the surface they were just ordinary people from the north of Jiangcheng.
A man walked out with a smile.
"Are you two from out of town?"
Li Ying directly placed two wooden signs: "I'm looking for your gang's leader."
The man glanced at the wooden sign and smiled sinisterly: "Comrade, we're in the new society. What gang, what boss? I've never heard of them."
"Stop playing dumb, take me to your boss!"
Li Ying gave the order.
The man paused for a moment, then chuckled, "Since you know so much, young lady, I might as well tell you: if you want to see our boss, you go alone. He can't go in!"
"No, I have to go with her!"
Jing Yingyan clenched his fists; he was determined to protect Li Ying and her child.
"Then I'm sorry, this is our boss's rule. Either you get out of here or you can go back to where you came from!"
Li Ying hadn't expected the group to be so powerful; it seemed that even with Jing Yingyan by her side, she wouldn't be able to meet the group's leader.
They'd been traveling for two days and one night, and it hadn't even been three days since Zhou Qi was killed; they couldn't wait any longer.
"Okay, I'll go in with you, but he won't."
"Li Ying!"
Li Ying gently shook her head: "Jing Yingyan, I dislike owing favors to others. Since I want to save Zhou Qi, I will do my best. Don't worry, I won't put myself in danger."
Jing Yingyan gritted his teeth, then leaned closer: "Then be careful, they have guns."
Li Ying then noticed that the man did indeed have a gun in the pocket under his shirt.
Li Ying gave him a reassuring look, and then followed the person inside.
As I walked in, I saw several people squatting together playing cards. There was a figure in the shadow that looked somewhat familiar.
Li Ying stopped and, looking at the person's back, thought of her second brother, Li Ting.
How is that possible?
If my second brother wasn't detained because of that incident, how did he end up here?
I must be seeing things!
"What are you looking at? Let's go!" the man urged.
Li Ying followed the man further inside.
Several men playing cards also looked over in this direction.
"Hey, who's that girl?"
"Come see the boss."
"You've got guts! Going to see the boss all by yourself, aren't you afraid you won't be able to get out?"
Are you going to fight or not?
"No, Li Er, you get angry too easily. I don't think your luck has improved much!"
Li Er threw the cards on the table, saying, "Forget it, forget it, let's not play anymore, it's pointless."
The group dispersed, grumbling and cursing.
Li Er looked toward the figure entering the inner courtyard, his hand unconsciously clenching.
Li Ying followed the man into the inner courtyard and stopped in a living room in the second hall.
"You wait here, I'll go inform the boss."
After speaking, the man walked straight into the back.
He didn't even ask her name; it seems this person knows her.
Li Ying sat down, poured herself a glass of water, and took a small sip.
"The finest Da Hong Pao tea."
"good!"
With a shout of "Good!", a middle-aged man walked out from the back room. He was tall, with a face full of fat and a menacing look.
Li Ying stood up and smiled calmly: "So you're the leader of this gang?"
"Hey, these days it's not fashionable to call someone 'gang leader,' everyone just calls me Boss Hu, you can call me that too!"
"Boss Hu sent someone to find me and told me that you wanted to kill Zhou Qi. I've come to ask what Boss Hu means by this?" Li Ying went straight to the point. From the first glance, she knew that Boss Hu had come to see her because he was looking for a doctor.
In that case, the other party wouldn't dare to resort to underhanded tactics.
"I didn't expect you to be so clever, knowing that I deliberately had someone notify you to come to Jiangcheng to see me? But Zhou Qi, I raised him, yet he betrayed me. I won't let him live!" Boss Hu said viciously.
"If Zhou Qi dies, then I'm afraid there will be no one to cure Old Hu's illness."
Old Hu was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Sure enough, Old Qian's apprentice is different. He could tell I was sick at a glance."
"Stop talking nonsense, where is Zhou Qi?" Li Ying pressed.
"You can see Zhou Qi if you want, but you must cure my illness first!"
