Chenchen waited for a while before asking, "Dad, are you done?"
"Chenchen, are you waiting for Daddy?" Leng Yan squatted down and touched the little guy's face.
"Uncle Leng, where's my dad?" Chenchen stood up, looked around, and when she didn't see Jing Chi, her face fell, and she looked like she was about to cry.
"Chenchen, your father had some things to do and left early. He asked your uncle to take you home."
Chenchen lowered her head: "Does Daddy not want Chenchen anymore?"
Leng Yan gently patted Chenchen's head: "Silly girl, how could Daddy not want Chenchen? Daddy just went to catch the bad guys. When Daddy comes back after catching the bad guys, he'll play with Chenchen, okay?"
Chenchen nodded.
"Come here, let Uncle hug you."
Leng Yan picked up Chenchen and ordered his men to take away all the fishing gear.
Back home, Leng Yan put Chenchen down.
Li Ying was somewhat puzzled when she saw Leng Yan and Chenchen.
Where is Jing Chi?
“Aunt Jing misses her son and asked me to pick up Young Master Jing so we can have a meal together,” Leng Yan replied calmly.
Li Ying was furious. She pushed Chenchen into the house, turned around and slapped Leng Yan.
"Leng Yan, how dare you?"
Leng Yan rubbed his cheeks: "Li Ying, I know you look down on me and think I'm despicable. That's right, I've always been like this, but I can't help it."
"Leng Yan, you can be a human being, why do you have to be a dog?" Li Ying was furious. "Do you know that if Jing Chi goes back, he'll be sent to his death? His mother is a madwoman. All she wants is to control Jing Chi. You know what will happen to him if he goes back."
“Yes, I know. I’ve already tried it for him. That poison crawls all over my body like ants, causing unbearable pain. You gave me the antidote, relieving my suffering. But you’re only temporary. If I want to live, I can only rely on Aunt Jing.” Leng Yan was even angrier than Li Ying.
"Yes, in your eyes, Jing Chi's life is more important than mine. I'm just a dog raised by Aunt Jing, but a dog's life is still a life. Who is more noble than whom?"
"Get out! Get out right now! I don't want to see you!" Li Ying roared.
Leng Yan sneered: "Li Ying, from the first moment I saw you, I knew we were destined never to be friends. You can hate me, you can blame me, but as long as I, Leng Yan, live, I will not let anyone bully you and Chenchen."
"I don't need your sympathy, I don't need your pity, and I don't need your hypocritical words. Get out, get out now!"
There was no point in Leng Yan saying anything more, so he turned and led his subordinates away.
Li Ying plopped down on the ground, on the verge of tears.
Chenchen opened the door and ran out, hugging Li Ying and looking up at her with her little face: "Mommy, what happened to Daddy?"
Li Ying hugged Chenchen tightly, resting her chin on Chenchen's forehead: "Chenchen, Daddy's okay, he'll be okay."
The Jing family.
Jing Chi stood in the living room, with his mother, Tang Yu, sitting on the sofa in front of him.
"Does inviting me back for dinner really require such a grand gesture?"
"If I don't do this, will you come back?" Aunt Jing put down her teacup, picked up a small medicine packet, and looked deep in thought.
“Achi, I know that when you were poisoned, I even thought of giving my life to save yours. But in the end, everything I did was seen by you as a tool to push you away.” Aunt Jing said, tears streaming down her face.
"Yes, all these years, I haven't raised you, I haven't given you the warmth that belongs to a mother, but that's not what I wanted. It's all your damn father's fault, he ruined my life."
As Aunt Jing spoke, tears streamed down her face, and her whole body trembled.
"So, I'm actually the son of the eldest son of the Jing family?"
Jing Chi's judgment was correct. He was indeed the son of the eldest son of the Jing family, not some child of the Jing family in the capital. It was because the eldest son of the Jing family must have used dishonorable means to humiliate Tang Yu back then that she had no choice but to break off her engagement with the Kang family and marry into the Jing family instead.
"It seems you still don't know what happened back then. Oh well, what's past is past. I don't want to bring it up anymore. Now that you're back, why don't you have a meal with me?"
"You're going to poison me?" Jing Chi pressed directly.
Aunt Jing was stunned, staring blankly at Jing Chi.
How could she possibly poison her own son? But if she didn't, she would lose him.
"Jing Chi, do you know what keeps me going? It's you. I have nothing left but you. But why won't you listen to me? Why do you have to marry that Li Ying, that scourge!"
"I don't understand why Li Ying is a menace?" Jing Chi seized the opportunity to ask.
Aunt Jing snorted coldly: "It's one thing that she's bewitched Ye Jingchi, but she also kidnapped the son I finally found. What else is she but a menace?"
"Did you bring me back just so I would stay with you for the rest of my life, never get married, and never have children?"
"Wrong! How could I possibly stop you from getting married and having children? But you can choose anyone, just not Li Ying!" Aunt Jing roared, as if a tremendous rage was burning within her.
“Mom, a mother’s true way of loving her son is not through control or coercion, but by letting go. I’ve never blamed you for not raising me, but you’ve never let me live my own life. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have listened to Nan Shiran and poisoned me, making me live with poison.” Jing Chi argued logically, hoping his mother would come to her senses.
"You suspect that I was the one who poisoned you back then?" Aunt Jing cried, her sobs were very pitiful: "If I had poisoned you, why would I have risked my own life to save you?"
"Even if it wasn't you, why did you cooperate with Nan Shiran?"
“Because Nan Shiran said she could save you, I also want to save you. I would do anything to save you. Morality, ethics, nothing is more important than my son’s life.” After saying this, Aunt Jing sat down and clutched her chest.
"I did what I was supposed to do. I don't care what others think of me. I just wanted to save my son. Was I wrong?"
Jing Chi noticed something was wrong and smelled a strange odor.
"You poisoned the house?"
Aunt Jing rubbed her forehead and said, "Don't worry, Nan Shiran said that this poison will only make you feel weak all over, it won't endanger your life."
"Mom, do you still believe Nan Shiran's words even now?"
Jing Chi felt his limbs slowly weaken, his legs became unsteady, and he sat down on the ground.
Aunt Jing had already covered her mouth and nose with a handkerchief, her eyes filled with tears: "Jing Chi, Mom had no choice. I didn't want to see you go further and further astray. Please forgive Mom. Once this is over, whatever woman you want, Mom will find her for you."
Jing Chi tried to raise his hand, but he was too weak. He knew he had made a mistake.
Jing Chi could only slowly close his eyes and faint.
Aunt Jing stood up and said to Xiao Hui, "Have someone carry the young master back to his room. Remember, no matter what happens in the future, you are not allowed to let him out!"
