Chapter 82 Getting Involved

Shi Bai willfully dragged Diudiu outside, and Zhou Qi did not stop him, but just watched silently.

After the two left, Zhou Qi said sheepishly, "I was just being nosy."

Li Ying smiled lightly, "Alright, go back to sleep."

Zhou Qi turned and went back to his room.

Li Ying's eyes were deep and unfathomable. She was right; there was definitely something wrong with this Diudiu.

After leaving the courtyard, Diudiu was very grateful: "Brother Shi, thank you so much, you're always so kind to me."

Shi Bai smiled innocently: "Of course, you just came out for some fresh air. Zhou Qi was just trying to protect Yingying, so don't be angry."

Diudiu shook her head, reached out and held Shi Bai's hand. The moment her soft little hand grasped Shi Bai's thick, big hand, Shi Bai blushed and hurriedly pulled his hand back. Although it was night and the sky was dark, and no one would notice them, Shi Bai was a very traditional person and very conservative when it came to matters between men and women.

"Brother Shi, are you disgusted with me?" Diudiu immediately started sobbing, feeling wronged.

Shi Bai panicked and hurriedly waved his hands: "No, that's not what I meant. It's just that I value these things a lot. Diudiu, would you like to be with me?"

If it's determined, then it's different.

Diudiu nodded emphatically: "You are the best man I've ever met! I want to be with you!"

Shi Bai beamed and went up to hug Diudiu.

He had already missed Chuanmiao, and this time he didn't want to miss Diudiu. Let the two lonely souls huddle together in the winter!

The next day, early in the morning, Shi Bai rushed out of the house and knocked on Li Ying's door.

Li Ying opened the door and, seeing Shi Bai's excitement, guessed what was going on: "Second Senior Brother, have you finished writing down the final experimental data?"

Shi Bai nodded excitedly: "Yes, it's written out. We just need to go to the lab to verify it today, and then it can be done in clinical trials."

"Okay, let's go to the lab right away."

Li Ying put on a thick cloak and followed Shi Bai to the laboratory.

In the laboratory, Lu Qingzhu and others quickly cleared out the data, and successfully manufactured the traditional Chinese medicine based on the data.

"The drug has been successfully developed, but it has not yet been used in clinical trials. We do not yet know whether it is effective, how effective it is, or whether it has any side effects."

"If someone is willing to try the drug, we can give it a shot."

"Let's use it on animals first, like mice," Li Ying suggested.

Lu Qingzhu glanced at Li Ying: "This is how experiments are conducted abroad, but they are developing Western medicine. Are we going to do the same? Besides, the effects of traditional Chinese medicine are different, and they won't be noticeable on mice."

"Then go to the hospital and find the director. He can talk to the patients about trying these medications." Li Ying knew that trying out medications was a long process, and the effects of the medications would take time to appear.

Lu Qingzhu nodded: "Okay, I'll go talk to the dean."

During lunch, Chen Wen approached Li Ying again.

"What's wrong with you guys? The data has been leaked, and you still want to continue this project?"

"What, a data breach?" Shi Bai was very surprised.

Li Ying pressed down on Shi Bai's hand and gently shook her head: "Second Senior Brother, it's alright, don't be too nervous."

"How can we not be nervous? Data leakage means that the results of our experiment will be stolen!" Shi Bai was very angry.

"Second Brother, data is just some numbers. The use of traditional Chinese medicine is unpredictable, and it cannot be used based on just some data," Li Ying reassured him.

Shi Bai finally calmed down.

Chen Wen found it strange that Li Ying seemed to be able to keep it from this second senior brother.

Seeing that Li Ying didn't want to talk about it, she stopped talking about it.

Tian Li ran over with a lunchbox and sat down in front of Li Ying, asking in a low voice, "Sister Yingying, I heard that the new medicine you made is going to be tested, mainly for back pain, right?"

Li Ying nodded.

This medication is mainly for lower back pain, including lumbar muscle strain, ligament sprains, and can be used for rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis.

“My mom has back pain, and it hurts so much at night that she can’t sleep. She used to use medicated plasters, but the plaster factory went out of business, and other medicines didn’t work very well for her.”

Tian Li wanted her mother to try this medicine.

"A plaster?!"

Li Ying remembered clearly that there was a family-run plaster factory in the capital that made really good plasters. However, some things happened a few years ago, and the factory went bankrupt, and the plaster formula was lost.

Nowadays, the plasters in pharmacies are all made by the master pharmacist, and their effects can't compare to those from the plaster factory.

"Junior Sister, what are you thinking about?"

"I was thinking, if we could find the formula for this ointment and improve upon it, it would be really great," Li Ying envisioned.

Shi Bai agreed.

"I think so too."

The medicine that Li Ying and her team are currently manufacturing is for oral use. If it is combined with a plaster, the effect should be even better when used both internally and externally.

The more she thought about it, the more reliable the method seemed. That night, Li Ying opened the ancient book again to look for any relevant information.

Later pharmacies also had many plasters, which were quite effective, but most of them only relieved pain and few could cure the root cause.

If only we could develop a plaster that could cure the root cause of the problem.

I was reading very attentively when I heard a sound outside. It was Diudiu bringing hot soup to Shibai.

"Brother Shi, are you asleep? I made you some soup."

The door creaked open, and Shi Bai's voice responded.

Li Ying closed her book, walked to the door, and gently pushed it open a crack. She saw Diudiu standing at the door wearing a thin nightgown. Her second senior brother was talking to her, but he didn't seem to want Diudiu to come in.

Second Brother is too straightforward and honest. He wouldn't do anything outrageous if he didn't get married, and he doesn't know anything about cherishing women. Otherwise, Chuan Miao wouldn't have committed suicide.

Li Ying felt very lucky; her senior classmates showed her their gentlest side, while they showed others only the traditional, rule-abiding side.

Just as he was about to close the door, he saw Diudiu suddenly fall into Shi Bai's arms. Shi Bai was a little flustered and hurriedly pulled Diudiu into the room.

Li Ying sighed, "You really can't praise me at all."

Just as I was about to leave, I heard Zhou Qi's voice.

"It's time to sleep, what are you two chattering about?" Zhou Qi stood at the door, arms crossed, glaring at the two of them.

Shi Bai snapped out of his daze and hurriedly pushed Diudiu to the door. "I'm sorry, this isn't good for your reputation. You should go back to sleep."

Diudiu wanted to say something, but worried about being suspected, so she nodded gently: "Then I'm going back to sleep. Remember to drink the soup."

Shi Bai nodded.

Zhou Qi scoffed and slammed the door shut.

Shi Bai sat down with the soup in his hand, sighed, and looked at the candle on the table. The burnt-out candle had long since turned to ashes, and even if the new candle was exactly the same, it wouldn't be the same one as the original.

Shi Bai picked up the bowl and drank the ginseng soup.
