The Ye family of Tongcheng.
Li Ying followed Ye Jingchi into the courtyard, and a four or five-year-old child rushed out and hugged Ye Jingchi's leg.
"Third Uncle, why are you only coming back now? Dangdang missed you so much!"
Dangdang tilted her slightly chubby little face up, pouting with a wronged expression.
Ye Jingchi rubbed the little guy's head and smiled gently: "Third Uncle went to fetch a doctor for your great-grandmother, which took some time."
Dangdang looked behind Ye Jingchi and asked, "Is this the pretty lady?"
Ye Jingchi patted the little guy on the head: "Call me Auntie."
Li Ying didn't care about the title and smiled faintly.
She still likes children.
"Jingchi is back?" A young woman in a plum-red cheongsam came out of the house. She had a particularly beautiful oval face, but her slightly furrowed brows made her look sentimental, and there was a hint of melancholy in her eyes.
"Sister-in-law, I've brought the doctor!" Ye Jingchi said to the woman respectfully.
The woman's gaze fell on Li Ying.
For some reason, Li Ying felt that there was a hint of displeasure and resistance in the woman's eyes.
In the bedroom, an elderly woman with graying temples lay on the bed, her eyes closed and her face gaunt.
Li Ying didn't say much; she came specifically to seek treatment.
She first took the old woman's pulse to determine the cause of her illness, and then took out her own silver needles.
Ye Jingchi's mother, Tang Qiao, noticed that her son was acting strangely in the room. His eyes were fixed on Li Ying, unblinking, and his gaze was full of undisguised love.
Is she interested in him?
Tang Qiao subconsciously looked at her eldest daughter-in-law, Chunxue, who was standing next to her.
Chunxue's face was full of sorrow, but her eyes were fixed on Ye Jingchi, filled with expectation and satisfaction.
Alas, after her eldest son passed away, Chunxue felt like she had lost her pillar of support, and her spirits were completely broken.
If they hadn't promised to let her stay, let Jingchi take care of them, and give her good arrangements, she probably wouldn't have been able to hold on.
Seeing this, the son had other ideas.
That would make things difficult!
Li Ying took the needle and skillfully tidied up her tools.
"The old lady needs two more acupuncture treatments. Please arrange a room for me! I'll be staying here for a few days."
"Okay, I'll go right away!"
Before Tang Qiao could speak, Chunxue had already gotten up to prepare the room.
The Ye family used to be a prominent and wealthy family. They now live in a two-story house, which looks very impressive.
Li Ying stayed in the guest room, which was fully equipped.
Hearing the knock, Li Ying opened the door. Standing in the doorway was the woman Ye Jingchi called "sister-in-law," with a calm expression and holding a tray with a beautiful dress on it.
"Miss Li, these are clothes my mother asked me to bring to you. You probably didn't bring any clothes with you."
Li Ying was very touched and said thank you.
"Miss Li!" Chunxue scrutinized Li Ying: "When did you and Jingchi meet?"
Why did she ask that?
Just as Li Ying was about to say she didn't know him, Ye Jingchi strode over, stood beside Li Ying, and said to Chunxue, "Sister-in-law, you can ask me directly if you have any questions. There's no need to make things difficult for Li Ying."
Difficult situation?
She was just asking about the relationship between the two of them, how did that become a problem?
A hint of sorrow and resentment flickered in Chunxue's eyes, but she held back and said softly, "I just want to ask how you and Miss Li met?"
"We met when Donghu was flooded in June," Ye Jingchi said frankly. "I fell in love with her at first sight."
love at first sight?
Li Ying gripped her coat tightly, her heart pounding like a drum.
Could he have been the man that night?
He wants to take responsibility for himself!
Chunxue clearly hadn't expected Jingchi to be so direct. She opened her mouth, but after a long pause, she managed to stammer out, "Then what about me and Dangdang?"
She and Dangdang?
Li Ying seemed to understand the other meaning and remained silent.
Ye Jingchi said calmly, "I will take care of my sister-in-law and Dangdang, but I must also have my own marriage!"
He can take care of Chunxue and Dangdang, but he just doesn't want to follow his parents' arrangements and be with his sister-in-law Chunxue.
There's nothing inherently wrong with a younger brother marrying his elder brother's widow, but Ye Jingchi just can't get over that mental hurdle.
Li Ying wanted to explain, but suddenly she felt nauseous.
"You...?" Chunxue asked in surprise, "Are you pregnant?"
Chunxue felt that her symptoms were very similar to those of pregnancy.
Li Ying wanted to say no.
"Yes, sister-in-law, Li Ying is pregnant!"
Ye Jingchi didn't care whether Li Ying's pregnancy was real or not at the moment; he could use Li Ying's pregnancy as an excuse to refuse his parents' arrangements.
"I... vomit!" Li Ying gagged again.
"Stop talking, let me help you inside to rest." Ye Jingchi helped Li Ying and forcibly led her into the house.
Chunxue was a little stunned. The tray in her hand fell to the ground, and her clothes rolled onto the ground as well.
After a long while, Chunxue finally regained her composure. She clenched her fists tightly. It was impossible. Ye Jingchi would never do something so unreliable. It must be Li Ying who was using her unborn child to blackmail Ye Jingchi.
After returning to the room, Li Ying pushed Ye Jingchi away and looked at him with a serious expression.
"Battalion Commander Ye, what you just said will cause your family to misunderstand."
She could tell that Sister Chunxue liked Ye Jingchi, and she was afraid that the Ye family also intended for Ye Jingchi to take care of his sister-in-law and nephew.
Clearly, Ye Jingchi didn't want to marry his sister-in-law, so he used her as a shield.
She didn't want to get involved in such a complicated relationship.
"Are you sick, or..." Ye Jingchi wanted to find out.
