Li Ying felt something was off. Her relationship with Leng Yan wasn't close enough for her to invite him to her home for the holidays, but he could bring it up so openly, without any fear of being rejected and feeling embarrassed.
"We also live with our families."
"Add another pair of chopsticks."
Leng Yan gazed intently at Li Ying.
"All right."
"Thank you." Leng Yan's expression softened, and he turned to leave.
Sang Zhi asked, puzzled, "Isn't this Manager Leng a bit strange? Even if his aunt has reclaimed her son, he can still celebrate the holiday with her!"
"If I don't understand, I won't look at it. I'm more interested in knowing what this person is trying to do."
The Jing family.
Leng Yan went up to the second floor, entered the study, and stood still with his hands at his sides.
"How is it?" Aunt Jing asked elegantly, holding the teacup in a neutral tone.
"I agreed."
"In that case, Ayan, don't disappoint your aunt." Aunt Jing smiled slightly. "Although Li Ying has a child, she has good medical skills, a clean family background, and they are all public servants. Such a family is a good match for you."
"Thank you for your concern, Aunt."
"Alright, I'm sleepy, you can go now."
“Aunt, let me handle the acquisition of the machine factory,” Leng Yan requested.
Aunt Jing placed the teacup on the table, her face turning cold: "Ayan, I raised you myself, you know the rules! Chi'er just came back, he needs an opportunity to enhance his reputation! Do you understand?"
"clear!"
Leng Yan left the study, turned around, his eyes even colder, and his fingers subconsciously touched the cigarette case. He hesitated for a moment, then went downstairs and lit a cigarette in the courtyard.
Jing Chi drove his newly bought car into the yard, got out of the car, and frowned unhappily when he saw Leng Yan smoking.
"I've already said, no smoking in the Jing family! No smoking! Who gave you that right?!"
Leng Yan grabbed Jing Chi's arm and pressed the cigarette butt against it. Jing Chi cried out in pain and shook off Leng Yan.
Are you crazy?
Hearing the commotion, Aunt Jing came over and saw that her son's arm was burned red. She raised her hand and slapped Leng Yan hard.
"Is this how you treat your brother?"
Leng Yan's eyes were light and clear. He bent down to pick up the cigarette butt and walked away.
"Chi'er, are you alright? Quickly get some iodine!" Aunt Jing held Jing Chi's hand anxiously, her eyes full of heartache.
"Mom, please get rid of that cold-hearted guy! I get annoyed just looking at him!"
They actually dared to burn themselves with cigarette butts; they're incredibly audacious.
“Chi’er, Mom knows you don’t like Leng Yan, but we are an orphan and a widow, and we need someone to rely on. Leng Yan may be cold-hearted, but he is a good person. I will scold him in the future and not let him bully you.”
Jing Chi withdrew his hand, his face darkening: "In the end, you still feel sorry for him! That's right, you've raised him for so many years, even if he were a dog, you'd develop feelings for him. And me? I'm just a tool you brought back to tell others that the Jing family has an heir!"
"Chi'er..."
"Stop talking, I won't listen to anything!" Jing Chi angrily knocked over the iodine brought by the servant and went back to his room.
Aunt Jing sighed and rubbed her forehead.
Neither of them backed down!
The day before the Dragon Boat Festival, Leng Yan came to the clinic to help out.
He didn't say anything, just kept a dark expression on his face as he handed out and packaged medicine for people.
Those who took the medicine didn't dare to breathe loudly; they just dropped off the money and left.
Feeling depressed, Li Ying got up and went to Leng Yan's side.
"Manager Leng."
"You can call me by my name from now on. I don't like the word 'manager'!" Leng Yan said, her hands moving non-stop as she handed the wrapped medicine packet to the patient waiting opposite her.
"Leng Yan! You've given my patient a psychological trauma!" Li Ying scolded unhappily.
The people opposite, who were getting medicine, took a step back, covering their mouths, unsure whether to laugh or not, and none of them dared to look at the cold-faced king's expression.
“I…” Leng Yan glanced at the others and said apologetically, “I’m sorry.”
"You should rest."
Li Ying opened the cold banquet and personally packed medicine for the patients.
The cold banquet wasn't interesting, so we went to the backyard.
Chenchen was squatting on the ground watching ants move their nest. When she heard footsteps, she looked up and said, "Keep your voice down, don't scare my ants away."
Leng Yan squatted down and looked at Chenchen: "Little one, how old are you?"
Chenchen held up one finger: "Two and a half years old."
Do you know who your father is?
Chenchen nodded, her eyes sparkling: "My dad's name is Ye Jingchi. He's a great hero. He's very good at fighting. He's also a regimental commander."
Leng Yan reached out and ruffled Chenchen's hair: "You brat, who taught you that?" "My mom! Look, this ant is carrying a huge rice grain! Look!"
Chenchen tugged at Leng Yan.
Leng Yan's lips curved slightly, and a hint of tenderness appeared in her icy eyes.
"What's your name?" Chenchen asked, looking at Leng Yan.
"Cold Banquet".
"Oh, so that's why you're so cold. So your surname is Leng (meaning cold)?" Chenchen said, half-seriously and half-jokingly.
Leng Yan was amused and found herself actually laughing; she hadn't felt this kind of pure joy in a long time.
Do you know why ants move house?
"I know, because it's going to rain. That's what my mom told me. Uncle Leng, did your mom tell you this when you were little?"
Mother?
Leng Yan's eyes grew even colder: "I don't have a mother."
"Huh? Did you pop out of a crack in a rock?" Chenchen stared at Leng Yan curiously, not understanding how someone who popped out of a crack in a rock could have a nose and eyes.
Leng Yan laughed and reached out to rub Chenchen's head.
"Your mother is blessed to have you."
Not everyone is born with a responsible and devoted mother!
On the Dragon Boat Festival, the clinic was closed. Li Ying and Sang Zhi took Chenchen and Leng Yan, who insisted on coming along, to the Li family for a reunion dinner.
"Why is he here?" Li Pei pulled Li Ying aside. "Why did you bring him?"
“Brother, he said he wanted to have a family reunion dinner with us, so we let him come over. It’s just a matter of having one more pair of chopsticks.”
"These past two days, the Lu family and the Jing family have been having a lot of unpleasantness over the acquisition rights of the machinery factory. The leadership is inclined to favor the Lu family. If you bring him back, and the Lu family finds out, I'm afraid this deal will fall through again."
Li Pei was wholeheartedly concerned for the factory. As long as the workers weren't laid off, he naturally wanted to find a manager who could pay their wages to take over.
"Brother, these are not the same thing; we should talk about them separately."
Li Pei sighed; they couldn't just kick the person out now.
Sang Zhi deliberately sat down next to Li Ting and, when no one was looking, added a little something to his wine glass.
Just as everyone was raising their glasses in a toast, the gate was pushed open, and Jing Chi strode into the courtyard.
"Ye Jingchi!" Li Ting stood up, staring incredulously at the approaching person.
Everyone else was stunned.
Li Ying reminded everyone: "He is not Ye Jingchi."
Jing Chi glanced at everyone present, then sat down next to Li Ting as if they were old friends, grabbed the wine glass next to Li Ting, and drank it all in one gulp.
"Don't drink it!"
