Chapter 31 One painkiller isn't enough.

The room was dimly lit, and outside there was a chorus of wails. Gong Yi looked at Hua Mi, his expression still broken and full of pain.

Just then, the call device hanging on his waist went off again. The rescue team was still calling for teammates because there had been another earthquake.

He lowered his head, rubbed his face hard with his cleft hand, then looked at Hua Mi and opened his mouth.

Before he could even speak, Hua Mi said:

"Go ahead, I'll wait here for the doctor to arrive. No matter what happens to Cao Feng, I'll send you a message."

She had met Cao Feng a few times, and he didn't leave a bad impression on her. She decided to put finding the factory manager aside for now and wait until the doctor from Cao Feng's place arrived before going to see him.

In fact, it wouldn't take Hua Mi long, because Cao Feng's injuries were so severe that he couldn't hold on for long.

Cao Feng will die soon.

Gong Yi looked deeply at Hua Mi. His face, covered in blood, gradually hardened, as if he had returned to his usual self.

He stood up, his gaze lowered, completely enveloping Hua Mi in his shadow.

"I'll thank you later."

"Go."

Hua Mi looked up at him and smiled; the hickeys on her neck were already very faint.

After Gong Yi left, Hua Mi sat by Cao Feng's bedside, looking at Cao Feng's slightly heaving, bloodied chest.

She was terrified that if she wasn't careful, her heart would stop beating.

People came and went outside, hurrying along, but no doctors or nurses came because everyone was too busy.

Hua Mi felt that Cao Feng couldn't continue like this, so she left him lying there. His skin was all raw, and he was very susceptible to infection.

So Hua Mi took out some mineral water and tried to clean Cao Feng's wounds little by little.

At first, she simply washed Cao Feng's fingers, removing the dirt and grit, and then used mineral water mixed with a little ethanol to wipe his fingers.

Finally, the painkiller was crushed and gently applied to Cao Feng's fingers.

Seeing that Cao Feng was still asleep, Hua Mi washed his entire arm again, and finally crushed the painkiller and sprinkled the white powder on Cao Feng's blood-red arm.

Even with Cao Feng neither dead nor awake, Hua Mi became even bolder.

She found a pair of scissors in the Level 5 storage, cut off Cao Feng's charred clothes, and washed his entire body.

Then, diluted ethanol was applied to the intact skin, followed by analgesic powder.

After finishing all that, Hua Mi went to look at Cao Feng again. Cao Feng's brows, which had been furrowed even in his sleep, had actually relaxed, and he looked like he was sleeping quite soundly.

He probably won't die immediately.

Hua Mi reached out and checked Cao Feng's breath; his breathing was much more steady and long.

So Hua Mi got up, stuck her head out of the curtain of the cubicle, and looked outside, wanting to ask Cao Feng's doctor and nurses why they hadn't arrived yet.

What they saw was a large group of lifeguards carrying one survivor after another, who had just been dug out of the rubble.

It just rushed past her.

"Doctor! Doctor, save him! Quickly!!!"

They put the seriously injured survivor down and quickly left the emergency room, afraid that their disheveled appearance would bring germs to the emergency room.

Someone peered through the curtain of the cubicle and saw Cao Feng lying on the bed, his body covered in charred red from the explosion. His eyes reddened, and he looked at Hua Mi.

Hua Mi opened her mouth,

"He's just asleep."

"Thanks."

The lifeguard, whose name he didn't know, wiped away his tears and could only respond to Hua Mi with those two words before turning around and joining the rest of the lifeguards.

They rushed to the next ruin.

Hua Mi felt a mix of emotions as she watched the group of disheveled lifeguards gradually disappear into the crowd.

She silently returned to Cao Feng's bedside and washed his entire body with mineral water.

Because Cao Feng had not yet died, Hua Mi repeated the procedures of cleaning, wiping with mineral water diluted with ethanol, and applying pain-relieving powder to Cao Feng several times.

Several hours passed just like that, and countless more houses outside collapsed, while even more people were being sent to the emergency room in Xiangcheng.

During this time, Hua Mi received a text message from A Fu. His whole family had decided to leave Xiangcheng, so they told Hua Mi that they could no longer deliver goods for her.

With the water plant gone, Xiangcheng will probably no longer need Huami's mineral water bottles.

Hua Mi didn't reply to the message; she felt that Afu's family probably wouldn't go far.

Sure enough, less than half an hour later, Afu sent her another message saying that the road out of Xiangcheng had collapsed due to the earthquake, and his truck was stuck in the middle of the road, blocking all the cars behind him.

He wanted to ask Hua Mi if she could help find a clearing team to lift his truck so that other vehicles could pass first.

Hua Mi thought for a moment and sent a message to Afu.

[Hua Mi: The clearing team is very busy and probably won't be here for a while. You should find a spacious place to take shelter first, and don't mention that you are the truck owners, to avoid upsetting the crowd.]

After sending that message, Afu didn't reply to Huami again, and she didn't take it to heart. She just sat by Cao Feng's bedside, counting how many painkillers were left in the Level 5 warehouse.

Clearly, the painkillers produced in the Level 5 factory are quite effective and cannot be equated with real-world painkillers.

Therefore, 1,000 painkillers should not be enough.

She used a lot on Cao Feng.

But now the factory manager has not been found, and the diesel supply has been cut off. Hua Mi's level 5 factory energy bar is almost empty.

She couldn't produce any more painkillers.

Another commotion erupted from the cubicle, followed by Afu's crying.

Hua Mi suddenly stood up from her chair, looked at the sky, and saw that it was already dark outside. She lifted the curtain and looked out, and saw that Afu's family had been taken to the emergency room by the lifeguards.

"Miss Hua, Miss Hua!"

Covered in blood, Afu lay on the stretcher, tears streaming down his face as he looked at Hua Mi standing beside him.

She hurriedly came out of Cao Feng's cubicle and followed Afu's stretcher forward, her brows furrowed as she asked:

"What happened? How did you get it like this? Was it caused by an earthquake?"

"No, it was those people trying to cross the road who said my truck had destroyed the road, so... so they attacked us..."

With his head bleeding, Afu reached out and grabbed Hua Mi's hand.

"It's my fault. I was the one who wanted to leave in my truck. My family was beaten because of me. Miss Hua, could you please use your connections to help us? Please don't abandon us, Miss Hua..."

He was terrified, and at that moment, he also felt a deep sense of guilt, as if it really was his fault for causing this traffic jam.

The public was outraged because his truck blocked the road, and his children were beaten because of his willful actions.

It's all his fault.

But he was so panicked. In this overwhelming chaos, he was truly terrified of the future.
