Chapter 439: She Lost the Child

Wang Guangyi shook his head, trying hard to make out the man's face in the darkness.

Isn't this the person who handles things for Chen Hu?

The man lowered his voice and said, "It's very likely that Zhou Er and Zhang Long have already been killed by Chen Hu."

"What? Why?"

Wang Guangyi was completely bewildered. He saw a flicker of fear in the eyes of the emaciated man in front of him. His voice was even lower, as if air was leaking from a fully inflated balloon.

"Chen Hu has a secret that he can't let anyone know. The last time I saw Zhou Er and Zhang Long was when they went to help Chen Hu with something."

Do you know Dr. Fang?

Speaking of Dr. Fang, he's a really great person. Most of the superhumans who enter the prison bring their families and relatives with them.

As for the family members who are ordinary people, most of them have some health problems, with injuries here and there.

People usually go to Dr. Fang.

Dr. Fang seems to have a good personality; he is very patient with elderly people suffering from illness and children who cry incessantly.

Wang Guangyi nodded. "It's been a long time since I've seen Dr. Fang. Where did he go?"

The person on the other end continued, "I heard from Dr. Fang that he went to see Chen Hu's mother, but he hasn't come back since."

"The last time I saw Zhou Er and Zhang Long, they said they were going to arrest Dr. Fang, but I didn't know what exactly Dr. Fang had done wrong."

The speaker looked anxious, and the fear in his eyes seemed to have infected Wang Guangyi as well. He looked back, as nervous as a mouse curled up in the shadows.

"I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm leaving."

Why leave?

Wang Guangyi looked at the person opposite him with suspicion.

"You finally got in, why are you leaving again? It's dangerous outside."

Don't you think...?

The man hesitated, then stopped, glancing nervously around. "Don't you think people disappear from here every day?"

Wang Guangyi seemed to feel the same way, but in the apocalypse, isn't it normal for people to disappear inexplicably every day?

He was about to question the person opposite him carefully, but the person turned around and plunged into the darkness.

They quickly disappeared without a trace.

Wang Guangyi pondered the man's words, then trudged heavily back to his cell.

Next to his cell lived a couple with a child.

Every time Wang Guangyi returned from killing mutated beasts outside, the child would giggle and run to his cell, grabbing the cell door frame with his two little hands and looking at Wang Guangyi with his big, curious eyes.

He would ask him with childlike innocence, "Have the zombies outside gotten stronger today?"

At this point, Wang Guangyi would nod with a serious expression, then stand up and pretend to close the door in front of the child.

The child would then laugh and run away.

But today, the child didn't run over to ask him as usual. Instead, it was the young mother in the next room who was crying out in anguish.

"My child, where is my child? Where has my child gone?"

Wang Guangyi hurriedly left his cell and ran to the next cell to take a look. It was the young couple from the next cell. Their child had gone off to play somewhere and seemed to have not returned for a long time.

Wang Guangyi felt a pang of emotion. He thought that it was indeed a lovely child, and if his own child were still alive, he would be about the same age as this child.

So even a child this age shouldn't be too naughty. Running away for so long, he should know his parents would worry.

Wang Guangyi, standing at the couple's door, opened his mouth, wanting to say, "The person is definitely still in prison, just a bit mischievous. Maybe they're visiting someone else; they're probably not in any danger..."

But for some reason, he recalled the man he had just met, the one who had cowered like a mouse.

Wang Guangyi swallowed back the words of comfort he was about to say.

He walked back to his cell dejectedly, put his hands behind his head, lay down on the narrow single bed, and looked out at the small window.

The couple next door started asking their neighbors for help in finding their child.

The wife was on the verge of collapse, pleading with everyone she knew in a low voice, "Please, please help me find my child, please, the child is so small, he/she has probably fallen somewhere and is stuck and can't move."

“I only have this one child. He must still be in here. He must be stuck somewhere.”

"This is a large prison from before the apocalypse. There are many small, dark rooms where people are locked up. If he gets stuck inside, he will definitely be scared."

The young husband and wife told everyone they met how adorable and timid their child was.

Soon, the couple arrived at Wang Guangyi's cell and pleaded, "Captain Wang, Captain Wang, could you please help us look for our child? He's a very good boy, he's never been so naughty, and he wouldn't be missing for so long."

"I beg you, Captain Wang, can you have some compassion? My wife and I worked so hard to get into this prison because of this child."

Frustrated, Wang Guangyi turned over, his face turned towards the inner wall of the cell.

In today's society, who has the extra love and energy to help them find their children?

It was already very dark outside, and the day would soon be over. He needed to get some sleep so he would have the energy to go out and kill more mutated beasts the next day.

The woman's crying continued behind him, and Mitsuyoshi snorted irritably.

None of the people the couple sought help from agreed to help them find their child. Everyone was exhausted; they were either preparing to conserve their energy to go out and kill mutated beasts or had just returned from a horde of mutated beasts and were completely worn out.

Some even yelled at the woman when she begged for help, "Your child is missing, shouldn't you blame yourself for being irresponsible and losing the child?"

“Now you’re praying to gods and Buddhas everywhere to find your child. If something happens to him, you should be the first to die with your child.”

"That's right. You hide in this prison all day long and do nothing. We kill all the mutated beasts outside. Your child is missing because you didn't take good care of him. We have no obligation to help you find your child, and we don't have time either. We have our own children to take care of."

Hearing these cold words, the woman cried even more helplessly and pitifully. Was it really her fault?

She lost the child; she should really die.
