Chapter 7 On-site verification of drug efficacy
"I have a hemostatic medicine that was given to me by a pharmacist when I was serving him in Kailang City."
There are two bottles in total, and they're much more effective than the treatment chamber. I haven't been willing to sell them, so I've kept them. How many nights' rent do you think they can cover with them?
Ah Chen blinked his bright blue eyes and said this was the answer he had prepared on the way here.
He currently carries over a dozen spatial buttons, filled with plenty of valuable items. After much deliberation, he decided to take out the hemostatic medicine to exchange for money.
He even fabricated the identity of a male servant who had served a pharmacist to make the origin of the potion seem more plausible.
The advantage is that the Algae Star People don't care much about their clothes, and he's a mischievous boy, so the clothes Zuo Shan prepared for him were mostly sturdy and durable, and not very brightly colored.
Before entering the town, he specially chose a set of his favorite old sportswear, rolled around in the straw husks a few times, and looked dusty all over.
The adults, including Zuo Shan, also changed into inconspicuous clothes before entering Silverwing Star. When you're in a foreign land, the more low-key you are, the less likely you are to cause trouble.
Otherwise, given his refined appearance and elegant attire, he would definitely be mistaken for a runaway noble young master.
The old man took the two bottles of medicine he was handed over, and asked with some doubt, "How can you prove that these medicines aren't counterfeit?"
Just then, a few men passed by, carrying a strange beast they had just hunted. One of the men had a bloody scratch mark more than three inches long on his arm, clearly from being scratched by the beast during the hunt.
However, people who frequently go out hunting usually don't bother to treat such superficial scratches. They only treat the wounds slowly after the game is sold and the money is distributed.
Ah Chen quickly called out to him, "Uncle, could you please come in for a moment?"
When the man saw that it was a child calling him, he didn't want to respond. Then he looked up and saw the old man behind the counter waving at him, so he signaled to his companions to wait a moment.
Then he stepped inside, and greeted the old man as he did so: "Uncle Mark, what can I do for you?"
“Jason, here’s the thing. This kid doesn’t have any contribution points, so he wants to use this bottle of hemostatic medicine to pay for his room. Why don’t you try it out and see if it works?” Mark didn’t want to waste too much of his time, so he got straight to the point.
“Sure, I’ll give it a try for your sake.” Jason casually stretched out his arm, willingly becoming a guinea pig.
Ah Chen unscrewed the cap, turned it upside down, and dripped two drops onto Jason's wound. The dark purple liquid fell into the wound and spread rapidly, turning the more than an inch-long wound purple instantly.
"Why is this medicine this color? It looks like a cheaply made fake! I'm warning you, if my wound gets infected, you'll be responsible for compensation!" Jason glared at Ah Chen with his big, round eyes and waved his fist.
"Don't worry, uncle, just sit there and wait for fifteen minutes, and I guarantee your wound will be completely healed!" Ah Chen said confidently.
Just kidding, how could a product made by a great physician be defective? Besides, any medicine that he can carry around in his spatial storage must be the best of the best!
After hearing what A-Chen said, the other men also became interested and gathered around to wait and see the result.
Three minutes later, Jason raised his arm and exclaimed, "Ouch! Why is it so itchy? I can't help but want to scratch it. Is this medicine causing an allergic reaction?"
"It's bound to itch when the wound starts to heal! Uncle, don't you even have that much common sense?" Ah Chen rolled his eyes and said.
"But I really can't help wanting to scratch, what should I do?" Jason looked distressed, stood up and walked around Ah Chen.
"Bear with it! If you scratch it and get a scar, you'll blame my medicine for not working properly," Ah Chen glared at him.
Jason finally refrained from scratching, not because he was afraid of leaving a scar, but because he was afraid of giving the kid an excuse. He thought that once the time was up and the wound hadn't healed, he'd see what the kid would have to say.
He genuinely didn't believe what the kid was saying. Even in a medical pod, it was impossible for a wound to heal within fifteen minutes. At most, it could only stop the bleeding, reduce inflammation, and prevent infection.
If there really were such a good medicine in this world, wouldn't it be snapped up by those noble gentlemen? How could this kid possibly have the chance to sell it?
However, after another two minutes, Jason found that the wound was no longer itchy, and only some purple flakes remained on it.
He blew on it, and purple flakes fell to the ground. Upon closer inspection, the wound was completely healed, without even a trace of red flesh.
"Hey! Kid, how come your hemostatic medicine also has the function of a recovery medicine?" Jason exclaimed.
"This is a high-level potion that can heal very serious injuries. Uncle, your wound is too shallow, so it has healed completely." Ah Chen made up a story on the spot.
Actually, he hadn't expected Dr. Bo's hemostatic medicine to be so effective; otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to sell it so casually.
"Hey kid, how many bottles of this potion do you have left? Give them to us brothers and we'll take them all!" said one of Jason's tall companions.
"Go away! What are you doing meddling in? This is the only stuff this young man has left, he brought it to pay for my old man's lodging."
I was worried it was a fake drug, so I asked Jason to try it out. Now it seems to be working really well.
"Alright, you guys go do what you're supposed to do!" Mark waved his hand impatiently.
“Uncle Mark, isn’t that a bit unfair of you? Since you’ve got such a good potion, you must be going to sell it anyway. It doesn’t matter who you sell it to, why not sell it to our Eagle Hunting Team?” Jason leaned over and said with a smile.
"Okay, but we'll discuss the price later." Mark finally nodded and sent Jason and the others away.
Ah Chen pretended to be clueless and didn't chase after Jason and the others to tell them that he had another bottle. He just looked at Mark and said:
"Now that I've verified that my medicine is genuine, sir, how many days' rent can these two bottles cover?"
"I, an old man, won't bully a brat like you. One of these two bottles of medicine has already been opened, so the price will definitely be discounted."
"How about this, the whole bottle will cost you five days' rent, and this opened bottle will cost you four days' rent." Mark's eyes gleamed with shrewdness.
Ah Chen knew that the old man must have been shortchanging him, but he had no choice but to submit to the old man's wishes. He was an alien and a child, and the old man had already shown some conscience by not directly taking his medicine and kicking him out.
Thinking of this, he smiled and said gratefully, "Okay, thank you very much, Uncle! But you have to give me a bigger room, otherwise we won't be able to fit."
“No problem,” Mark readily agreed.
That hemostatic medicine was the most effective medicine he had ever seen in his life; the child's background must be extraordinary.
If we could also get a medicine formula out of him, that would be a huge windfall.
