After a series of screams, Ji Dong became completely still.
"Ah!" Ji Feng let out a heart-wrenching roar.
"What's all the fuss about? He's not dead." Rong Han raised his chin in disdain. The bodyguard nodded and immediately opened the door.
Two medical staff carrying a stretcher quickly walked in through the door.
They didn't utter a sound, seemingly used to it, and quickly lifted Ji Dong up.
Ji Feng struggled and shouted, "Where are you taking him?"
Rong Han waved his hand, signaling them to leave first, then turned around and said slowly, "Anyway, I won't let him die, but whether the doctor will do his best to treat his leg depends on your performance. You know what I want. If you do well, you'll naturally see a lively and energetic Ji Dong."
At this point, Rong Han paused, then continued with a cold smile, "Of course, if it fails, Ji Dong will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life."
With a single glance from Rong Mo, the bodyguards also chased Ji Feng out.
Ji Feng stumbled into the car and immediately pulled out his phone to make a call.
"It's time for you to repay the kindness. Of course, you'll be happy to do it."
----------
One week later.
In a hospital in the capital city.
Shen Zhi Qiu held Zhou Xiao Ran's hand, looking at her with heartache as she lay half-reclined on the hospital bed. Her already pale face was now almost bloodless, and her long, black hair was scattered haphazardly on the pillow.
Before Shen Zhi Qiu could speak, hot tears had already welled up in her eyes. "Xiao Ran, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I've made you suffer!"
Zhou Xiaoran lowered her head slightly, wearily but firmly grasping her hand, gently wiping away the tears from her face with her fingertips, and said with some difficulty, "It's not your fault, Zhi Qiu, I know you didn't want this either."
"Thank goodness you weren't there that day, or what would have happened! Look, I've recovered a lot after taking the antidote, haven't I?"
As she spoke, Zhou Xiaoran raised the corners of her mouth, not wanting Shen Zhi Qiu to worry about her so much while she was pregnant.
Shen Zhi Qiu's lips trembled, her frail back was slightly bent, and she held Zhou Xiao Ran's hand for a long time without daring to let go.
When Rong Mo arrived at the hospital, he was shocked to find that Shen Zhi Qiu was not in the ward. He quickly rushed out of the ward to start searching.
Just as I stepped out the door, I ran into Lu Jia returning with a bunch of fruit and two bouquets of flowers.
When Lu Jia mentioned that Zhou Xiaoran had woken up and Shen Zhi Qiu was with her inside, Rong Mo breathed a sigh of relief. "Then I'll wait for her in the ward. Miss Zhou has finally woken up, and the two of them must have a lot to talk about."
Rong Mo watched as Lu Jia busied herself putting down the things in her hands, then throwing the somewhat wilted flowers on the table into the trash can, and carefully pruning the gardenias she had just bought.
"Did you know? Zhi Qiu's favorite flower is gardenia. She says that the scent of gardenias makes her feel very peaceful and calm when she falls asleep." Lu Jia carefully placed the flowers in a vase and put it on the bedside table of Shen Zhi Qiu. She then took a few steps back, looked at it from a distance, and thought that the pruning was quite good this time.
After arranging the flowers, Lu Jia busied herself picking out the strawberries she had bought and soaking them in salt water, then turned around and started peeling pomelos.
"Zhi Qiu really likes to eat strawberries and sweet, juicy pomelos."
Lu Jia saw Rong Mo start peeling a pomelo and began to tell him about Shen Zhi Qiu's preferences.
Rong Mo listened attentively, but his hand movements were not very skillful.
"Do you know how to choose a grapefruit that's juicier?" Lu Jia smiled and spread the grapefruit peel out in her palm.
This touched on Rong Mo's blind spot. If you asked him about finance and business, he could talk for an hour without any problem, but he really didn't have much common sense about life.
He shook his head somewhat awkwardly.
"When you go to buy pomelos, just like I do, hold the pomelos in your palm and weigh them. If they are about the same size, the heavier ones are juicier."
Rong Mo nodded in sudden realization and made a mental note of it.
Lu Jia smiled smugly. This was an experience he had learned from the fruit vendor after discovering that Shen Zhi Qiu liked to eat pomelos, and he was passing it on to Rong Mo today.
When Shen Zhi Qiu walked slowly into the room, she saw the two of them standing in front of the table, carefully peeling pomelos. She couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Seeing that she had returned, Rong Mo quickly went to the door and helped her in, saying with some reproach, "Why didn't you call me? I would have come to pick you up."
“Brother, it’s not that exaggerated. He just walked over from the corridor, it only took a few minutes.” Shen Zhi Qiu felt that Rong Mo was making a mountain out of a molehill.
Lu Jia pulled out a chair, and after watching Shen Zhi Qiu sit down, Lu Jia thoughtfully placed a white napkin on her abdomen.
Rong Mo glanced at him and couldn't help but raise his eyebrows. After observing him carefully over the past few days, he and his father both agreed that this kid was much better than Gu Qingyan.
Just as Shen Zhi Qiu finished eating a segment of pomelo, Lu Jia brought out the washed strawberries and placed them next to Shen Zhi Qiu.
Shen Zhi Qiu picked up a piece, took a bite, and smiled contentedly, "So sweet!"
Rong Mo pulled up a chair and sat down next to Shen Zhi Qiu. He cleared his throat and began to talk to her about the divorce.
"Zhiqiu, Dad and I want to confirm with you again, are you really determined to divorce Gu Qingyan?"
Lu Jia glanced at them, thinking it best to give them some space, and said softly, "You two talk, I'll go check on Miss Zhou."
Watching Lu Jia close the door, Shen Zhi Qiu nodded to Rong Mo and said solemnly, "Yes, I've thought it through. Gu Qing Yan might think I'm just throwing a tantrum, but that's not it. I really want a divorce."
"Is it because of Xiao Wanqing?" Rong Mo asked patiently.
“Not entirely.” Shen Zhi Qiu smiled. “Brother, you know what? I feel that Gu Qing Yan doesn’t know what love is at all. I didn’t feel that he loved me, but I don’t think he loves Xiao Wan Qing either. His feelings for Xiao Wan Qing are not just about repaying a debt of gratitude, but a kind of morbid indulgence.”
He may have repented now, but it's too late.
Xiao Wanqing's life was ruined by his indulgence, and he also ruined our seemingly stable marriage.
But I don't hate him; on the contrary, I find him pathetic.
Rong Mo listened quietly, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
"Brother, don't frown, you'll get wrinkles," Shen Zhi Qiu teased with a smile, reaching out to smooth his brow.
Rong Mo laughed too, "Dad and I were just worried you'd be upset. Now it seems you've thought it through, so we're relieved. But, Gu Qingyan bullied you like that, Dad and I definitely..."
“Brother.” Shen Zhi Qiu grabbed his hand. “Don’t make things difficult for him because of me. I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore, there’s no need.” As she spoke, Shen Zhi Qiu touched her belly. “I just hope that the baby can grow up healthy and safe.”
"Of course, I promise you!" Rong Mo patted his chest. "The child will have everything he could ever want from the moment he is born."
With a creak, the door was pulled open from the outside without knocking, and Shen Zhi Qiu looked up to see someone barging in.
