Chapter 201 A Confession in Solitude

"Please come in," Rong Mo called out towards the door.

The nurse returned carrying the children who had finished their checkups, with Wei Qiao following behind with a postpartum nanny.

Despite her exhaustion, Shen Zhi Qiu turned her head and looked at the child with affection.

Rong Mo quickly took the child from the nurse and casually asked, "Is this my daughter?" The nurse smiled and said, "Yes." Rong Mo was overjoyed, his happiness overflowing. Then he shouted to Lu Jia, who was still guarding Shen Zhi Qiu closely, "Why don't you come and hold your son!"

Shen Zhi Qiu smiled and nudged Lu Jia, signaling him to hurry up and go.

Lu Jia stood up, carefully took the baby from the nurse's hands, and exclaimed, "The child has such big eyes!"

"Yes, it seems he took after his mother!" the nurse replied with a smile. "Although the baby's eyes are open now and he's very sensitive to light, a baby's vision takes time to improve. Don't be fooled by his round eyes now; the world he sees is still blurry. There won't be any noticeable changes until after a month!"

"Okay, okay." Lu Jia agreed repeatedly, remembering that he had read about it in a parenting book before, but the knowledge in his mind was not quite the same as what actually happened. In particular, his mind had not yet fully shifted from worrying about Shen Zhi Qiu's safety, so he had not yet reacted.

"They still don't quite look like me." Shen Zhi Qiu carefully examined the two children who were being presented to her, and unconsciously frowned. "They're a bit ugly."

Complaints from one's own mother are often the most honest, and Rong Mo couldn't help but laugh, teasing, "Who isn't born wrinkled and a little ugly? You must have been too when you were first born..."

Rong Mo paused, his eyes dimming, and murmured, "I've never seen what you looked like when you were born."

"Brother, I'm perfectly fine in front of you, aren't I?" Shen Zhi Qiu forced a smile and said softly, "Let bygones be bygones."

Rong Mo nodded, but then looked up at Wei Qiao at the door. Wei Qiao immediately understood and went out to make a phone call to urge the progress of the investigation into the matter of Shen Zhi Qiu being switched at birth.

"Brother, where's my phone?" Shen Zhi Qiu asked, looking around.

"Here it is." Rong Mo took it out of his coat and handed it to her.

Shen Zhi Qiu didn't take the money, but instead said with a smile, "Brother, can you take some pictures of the child for me?"

Rong Mo was a little confused, but he did as he was told. Then he pointed his phone screen at Shen Zhi Qiu and said, "Take a look and see how the picture is. If it's not good, I'll take another one."

"It's good, brother." Shen Zhi Qiu then reached for her phone, opened WeChat, sent the photo to Rong Hong, and after hesitating for a moment, also sent it to Mu Zi Qi.

Rong Mo nodded at Shen Zhi Qiu's actions, "Dad is on his flight back to China, so he probably won't receive it until he arrives at the airport later."

A hint of surprise flashed across Shen Zhi Qiu's face. "Really? Didn't you say Dad wouldn't be back until Chinese New Year?" Then she said anxiously, "Does Dad know about what happened to me? Is that why he's in such a hurry to come back? It's all my fault."

"Zhiqiu, it's not your fault." Rong Mo handed the child to the nurse, gently took Shen Zhiqiu's hand, and softly comforted her, "Dad didn't cancel his work to come back because he knew about your situation. He just wanted to come back early to see you. Dad also said he brought you a lot of gifts."

Shen Zhi Qiu was relieved and turned to look at the two babies in the crib. In just a short while, the two babies had closed their eyes and fallen asleep.

"The new mother needs to rest after giving birth, and too many people in the ward will disturb the baby," a nurse whispered to her.

"Okay." Rong Mo nodded, then immediately turned to look at Si Mingyu. "Let's leave in a bit, so as not to disturb their rest."

Before Si Mingyu could answer, he turned to look at Shen Zhi Qiu and said, "Zhi Qiu, I've already contacted the housekeeper at the postpartum care center. They'll come to pick you up once you've recovered a bit and your check-up is all done."

"I'll go with you then. You don't need to worry about anything you need; Lu Jia and I have already planned everything. Don't worry about the baby either; there's a postpartum nanny there. Just relax and take good care of yourself."

Shen Zhi Qiu nodded wearily, but still managed a smile to reassure Rong Mo.

Thinking that Shen Zhi Qiu should get some rest, Rong Mo quickly stood up, turned to look at Si Ming Yu, and said, "Let's go."

Si Mingyu pursed his lips, nodded, and walked slowly to a spot about two meters from Shen Zhi Qiu's bedside. He turned to look at the sleeping baby, then said softly to Shen Zhi Qiu, "Zhi Qiu, you should rest well. I'll come see you again tomorrow."

Shen Zhi Qiu smiled and said, "Thank you, Brother Mingyu. If you're busy, you don't have to come. It's okay, I appreciate your kind gesture. Thank you."

"It's okay, I'm not busy." Si Mingyu pursed his lips again, feeling a little sad. Then, afraid that Shen Zhi Qiu would reject him, he turned and walked towards the door.

"Mingyu, go bandage your wound. It's bleeding a lot; it'll be troublesome if it gets infected." Shen Zhi Qiu sighed and advised, noticing the blood-red gauze on Si Mingyu's hand.

"Ah? Okay." Si Mingyu stopped, somewhat flattered, and finally smiled, nodding quickly.

After everyone had left, the large ward finally quieted down.

Shen Zhi Qiu reached out and pulled Lu Jia's hand, but accidentally pulled on the wound on her stomach, causing her to frown.

"What's wrong? Did you aggravate your wound?" Lu Jia hurriedly pulled over a chair and sat down next to Shen Zhi Qiu's hospital bed, lowering her body with a look of heartache on her face.

"It's alright, look, we're still using the pain pump," Shen Zhi Qiu quickly said, afraid that Lu Jia would worry too much.

“The incision must have hurt too.” Lu Jia tenderly rubbed Shen Zhi Qiu’s hand, her eyes instantly reddening. “You must have suffered a lot, it must have been so hard for you.”

After speaking, Lu Jia gently stroked the gauze on Shen Zhi Qiu's arm. A sharp pain shot through his heart. He couldn't bear to think what would have happened if Shen Zhi Qiu hadn't contacted him when she ran away from the Gu family!

As she thought about it, Lu Jia gently placed Shen Zhi Qiu's hand against her cheek. Feeling the warmth from her soft palm, Lu Jia couldn't help but shed tears. She choked out, "Zhi Qiu, I can't even imagine what life would be like without you. I don't need anything, I just want to be by your side."
