"What do you mean, Brother Wei?"
Xiao Lei looked at Wei Qiao with a blank expression, completely unaware of what Wei Qiao's question meant.
"You know that someone drugged Gu Qingyan's food, which is why he went crazy," Wei Qiao said directly, without beating around the bush.
"I know, wasn't I there when the doctor who examined Gu Qingyan reported the test results to you?" Xiao Lei scratched his head, still looking at him with a puzzled expression.
"The only person capable of poisoning Gu Qingyan's food could be someone stationed inside the villa."
Wei Qiao looked at him with a scrutinizing expression.
Hearing this, even the confused Xiao Lei understood what Wei Qiao was talking about, and hurriedly assured him, "Brother Wei, I've followed you for so long, you have to trust my character! I would never do such a thing behind your back!"
"I know you didn't do it, but what about him?!" Wei Qiao pointed angrily at the young man tidying up the stables and said fiercely.
"What? Him?"
Xiao Lei looked in the direction Wei Qiao was pointing, somewhat confused.
"Brother Wei, no, you mean, you mean Little Fish is...?"
Xiao Lei stared at Wei Qiao in shock, his voice trembling as he said, "Impossible! How could Xiao Yu Zai be like this?! That child is timid, and he looks so honest!"
"Being honest doesn't necessarily mean being innocent!" Wei Qiao squinted at the little fish in the distance, already having a plan in mind.
Just then, the butler, Uncle Li, hurried over from the living room, his footsteps sounding very rushed.
“Uncle Li,” Wei Qiao nodded to the butler, understanding the situation.
"Yes, Wei Qiao, we have the results. Come with me now." The butler looked at Xiao Lei next to Wei Qiao with a serious expression.
"Is it as I said?" Wei Qiao walked towards the butler, and seeing his serious expression, she pursed her lips and couldn't help but ask first.
"Yes, more or less." The butler nodded.
"Xiao Lei, come with me too." Wei Qiao turned around and called out to Xiao Lei.
Xiao Lei was standing there helplessly when he heard Wei Qiao's words, so he quickly followed.
"See?"
The housekeeper turned the computer screen so that both of them could see it.
The video showed that Xiaoyuzai's previous delivery of food to Gu Qingyan was normal. However, two days later, Xiaoyuzai placed the cold rice behind the stable, looked around to make sure everyone was busy eating or doing other things and no one was paying attention to him. Then, he quickly took out a small, round white bottle from the inside pocket of his coat. In just two seconds, he unscrewed the cap and shook it violently a few times. It was unclear what was inside in the video, but it was confirmed to be a powdery substance.
Standing behind Wei Qiao, Xiao Lei's body stiffened upon seeing this scene, and he couldn't help but gasp.
It seems that Wei Qiao's previous concerns were genuine.
Now that the facts are before him, he has no choice but to believe them, even if he dares not.
"Brother Wei, let me handle this."
After a moment, Xiao Lei bowed slightly and sincerely assured Wei Qiao, "I brought Xiao Yuzai into the Rong family, and I made a guarantee for him. Now that something has happened, I am also responsible, but please give me a chance to make amends, Brother Wei! I will definitely give you a satisfactory answer!"
Wei Qiao carefully observed Xiao Lei's facial expression. Seeing his righteous indignation, she felt a strange mix of emotions, but ultimately nodded. "Okay, go and handle it. I hope you won't disappoint me."
"I won't, Brother Wei." Xiao Lei nodded solemnly, veins bulging on his face, his eyes sharply fixed on the back of Xiao Yuzai on the computer screen, his fingers unconsciously clenching.
Watching Xiao Lei walk out.
Butler Li looked at Wei Qiao and asked with some concern, "Wei Qiao, are you really so sure that Xiao Lei wasn't involved?"
Wei Qiao pursed her lips and looked at Xiao Lei's departing figure, saying, "Uncle Li, I believe him. He would never betray me and do something like this."
"Why?" Butler Li frowned and asked, somewhat puzzled.
“We have a life-or-death bond.” Wei Qiao paused, sighed and continued, “Xiao Lei’s background is actually quite pitiful. His parents died early, and his brother sold him to a family in the mountains who were desperate for a child in order to survive.”
At first, things were going well. After all, the couple had finally gotten a son, and they were overjoyed with Xiao Lei, treating him like their precious treasure.
But the good times didn't last long. When Xiao Lei was in elementary school, the couple became pregnant with their own child, and a year later, a baby boy was born, which made the whole family ecstatic.
At first, it wasn't a big deal, but later, the family realized that raising two children was simply too expensive, and naturally, Xiao Lei, being an outsider, became a nuisance.
"And then?" Seeing Wei Qiao pause, Butler Li frowned and pressed for an answer.
"Later, Xiao Lei was sold to someone else by the couple."
Naturally, Xiao Lei has grown up and no longer recognizes his adoptive parents. In addition, he was sold off by his previous adoptive parents, so he has become very wary of others.
This would normally be understandable, but the adoptive parents simply couldn't accept that their son, whom they had spent a fortune to buy, was no longer close to them. So, they simply sold him again as a child laborer to an illegal coal mine. From then on, Xiao Lei's miserable life began.
"Then how did you meet Xiao Lei?" Butler Uncle Li was a little surprised. He didn't expect Xiao Lei's background to be so tragic. After all, although Xiao Lei didn't talk much, he didn't seem like a child who had suffered a lot. There were no signs of such misery on him.
"Later, there was an accident. I was seriously injured in the mountains. It was freezing cold, and I was about to fall into a coma when I met Xiao Lei, who had run away from the black brick kiln. It was a dark night with heavy frost, and I thought I was going to die in this wilderness."
Recalling that past, Wei Qiao couldn't help but sigh again, "Xiao Lei is an honest boy. He said he originally didn't want to take care of me at all, since he was already in dire straits himself. But after running a mile, he couldn't bear it anymore, afraid that I would be eaten by wild wolves in the mountains or bleed to death, so he steeled himself and ran back, dragging me into a nearby cave to hide..."
“It’s fair to say that without Xiao Lei, I wouldn’t be standing here alive today. Xiao Lei has been by my side since he was a teenager; you could even say I raised him single-handedly.” Wei Qiao sighed again. “So, Uncle Li, how do you think I should doubt Xiao Lei?”
