Time seemed to stand still; the living room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Lu Wei pursed her lips and even slowed her breathing.
After hearing her question, Chu Xia kept her head down and didn't say anything.
Lu Wei frowned, beginning to regret her question and secretly blaming herself for speaking too quickly.
"Miss, your fruit and desserts are ready."
Just then, the maid appeared in the living room carrying a tray of food, breaking the awkward silence. After setting the tray down, she quickly withdrew, leaving the master of the house alone.
"Have something to eat, Xiaowei. You came early, so you probably haven't had breakfast yet."
Chu Xia finally looked up, forced a smile, and bent down to give Lu Wei a small piece of egg tart. "Try this egg tart. Our sister Sun makes really good egg tarts. They're crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Many shops outside don't make them as well as hers."
"Thank you." Lu Wei accepted it without hesitation, and without continuing the previous topic, she added, "These egg tarts look delicious, perfect with coffee."
As he spoke, he took another sip of coffee, carefully observing Chu Xia's expression while holding the coffee cup.
"Chuxia, why are you up so early?" A girl suddenly came down the stairs, stretched sleepily, and slowly walked towards the living room. She was surprised when she saw Lu Wei, then rushed over excitedly and hugged Lu Wei tightly. "Xiao Wei! You're here so early! Hehe, I thought you wouldn't come until at least the afternoon! I missed you so much. I wanted to see you yesterday, but Chuxia said you had something to do and only came today."
"Hehe, I did have something to do yesterday, but I really wanted to see you guys as soon as possible! So I got up early this morning, packed up, and came over right away."
Lu smiled and hugged Lanlan back, then stepped back a little, looked her over, and said with a smile, "We haven't seen each other since you returned to China after graduation. You've become more and more beautiful!"
"Hehe, you have such a sweet tongue." Lanlan chuckled and patted Lu Wei's shoulder, then turned to Chu Xia and said, "Chu Xia, don't you think so?"
Sitting opposite her, Chu Xia seemed to be lost in her own world and didn't say anything.
"Early Summer?" Lanlan called her name again.
Chu Xia turned her head as if waking from a dream, her eyes still a little dazed, and asked, "What's wrong? Hey, Lanlan, when did you come down?"
Seeing her dazed look, Lanlan didn't think much of it, assuming that she was just distracted because she was tired from preparing for her wedding. She gently patted her arm and teased, "I've been down here for a while now, I don't know what you were thinking about, that's why you didn't even notice me."
"Uh, I was a little distracted just now, hehe." Chu Xia pursed her lips awkwardly, glanced at Lu Wei, and saw that Lu Wei was looking at her with a slight frown. She sighed silently and resumed her calm and gentle expression.
"By the way, Lanlan, are you hungry? Let's have some dessert." Chuxia said with a smile, pointing to the desserts on the table.
Before she could even ask for another cup of coffee, the maid had already come out with the coffee cup, showing great awareness.
The three of them drank coffee together, joking and chatting happily about the funny things that happened when they were in school together.
During the conversation, friends who were sleeping upstairs gradually came down and joined the conversation.
Lu Wei glanced at them and realized that apart from Lanlan, the others were all people she didn't recognize.
Feeling a bit stuffy in the living room, after some polite greetings, Lu Wei used the excuse of making a phone call to leave the living room and stroll leisurely towards the garden, wanting to get some fresh air.
She sat quietly in a quaint pavilion, watching the little fish swim to and fro in the pond, and her mood became exceptionally pleasant.
"Hello." Suddenly, Lu Wei heard a gentle voice behind her. She turned around and saw a tall young man.
The boy in front of me was wearing a gray tracksuit, tall and slender, with a faint smile on his face.
A gust of wind blew by, making the stray hairs on her forehead a little messy and slightly obscuring her eyes.
He casually flicked his wrist, revealing a pair of cool, aloof eyes.
Lu Wei sized him up. Although the person in front of her had a smile on his face, he exuded a strong sense of aloofness.
"Are you Lu Wei?"
Seeing Lu Wei looking at him, the young man gently twitched the corner of his mouth and politely asked.
Lu Wei looked at him suspiciously, "Do you know me?"
"Hello, my name is Lin Su, and I'm Chu Xia's fiancé." Lin Su nodded and continued, "I've seen you in a group photo at Chu Xia's house before. I've heard her mention you many times, and I know you two are very good friends."
"Haha, what a coincidence! We were just wondering what kind of guy stole our Chuxia away, it turns out it was you!"
Suddenly, Lanlan's laughter came from the bamboo forest behind Lin Su. She walked out arm in arm with Chu Xia, looked at the man in front of her, and teased him with a smile.
"You're here." Chu Xia smiled sweetly the moment she saw Lin Su. She let go of Lan Lan's arm and walked straight towards Lin Su.
Lin Su looked at her with a smile, and for some reason, the aloofness she had always exuded vanished instantly.
Lu Wei smiled with some relief.
Whatever the reason, her friend is very happy now, at least she saw such a bright smile on her face after the man in front of her appeared.
Lin Su gently brushed aside her wind-blown hair, put her arm around her shoulder, and said with a smile, "I was still worried and wanted to come and check on you. I won't feel at ease until I know you're alright."
Chu Xia smiled with her lips pursed, her eyes brimming with happiness.
As if suddenly remembering something, Chu Xia pulled Lan Lan over and introduced her: "This is Lan Lan, my good friend."
"I know, hello Lanlan. I've seen your photos before. I remember there was a group photo with the three of you, so I recognized Lu Wei at a glance." Lin Su smiled gently and greeted Lanlan.
"I'm going with my dad this afternoon to pick up some relatives who are coming to visit, and we need to get them settled in, so I had to come see you earlier than planned," Lin Su said gently, lowering her head to look at Chu Xia.
Seeing how sweet the two were, Lu Wei and Lan Lan glanced at each other knowingly and said with a smile, "Then we'll head back to the villa first. You two can chat for a while."
"Oh, it's okay, you guys..." Chu Xia blushed a little embarrassedly. Just as she was about to refuse, she saw Lan Lan quickly step forward, pull Lu Wei away, and run away.
