Xiao Wanqing was somewhat surprised. Judging from Shen Zhi Qiu's composed demeanor, she had assumed Shen Zhi Qiu was a docile lamb whom she could easily manipulate, but she hadn't expected this. Just as her face flushed red and then paled as she pondered how to retort, the living room door was pushed open.
A tall, well-built man walked in.
Shen Zhi Qiu looked up and saw the man's strong jawline. He glanced sharply at the people in the living room. Gold-rimmed glasses sat on his high nose bridge, and his sharp black suit gave him a cold and aloof air.
"Qingyan!" Xiao Wanqing's voice was tinged with a sob. She stood up, holding onto the edge of the table, her steps slightly unsteady. Her lips were downturned, and her eyes were red as if tears were about to fall at any moment.
Hearing her shout, Gu Qingyan immediately noticed Xiao Wanqing's pale face, his brows furrowed, and he snapped, "Shen Zhiqiu, what's wrong with you?!"
Shen Zhi Qiu watched coldly from the sidelines. Seeing his unequivocal defense of Xiao Wan Qing, her heart sank. She was immediately annoyed and retorted irritably, "What do you mean, what's wrong with me?"
"Apologize to Wanqing," Gu Qingyan said coldly.
"Impossible." Shen Zhi Qiu was stubborn too. Why should she apologize? She wouldn't apologize even if the King of Heaven himself came. Anyway, she already wanted a divorce, and she wouldn't give face to anyone.
"Qingyan," Xiao Wanqing's long eyelashes trembled slightly, "I may have accidentally offended Sister Zhiqiu, which caused her to misunderstand. Don't be angry, it's all my fault. I should apologize to Sister Zhiqiu."
"Damn it!" Shen Zhi Qiu cursed inwardly. "It has to be you, you green tea b*tch! Your ability to change your expression in a second is truly amazing!"
"It's not your fault. You've just moved here, so it's understandable that you're not used to some things. Zhi Qiu is older than you, so she should be more considerate of you." Gu Qingyan gently comforted Xiao Wanqing, completely ignoring Shen Zhi Qiu.
Seeing Gu Qingyan protecting Xiao Wanqing so fiercely, Shen Zhi Qiu felt a surge of bitterness in her heart. Three years of marriage, even without deep love, didn't mean she hadn't given him her true feelings, but Gu Qingyan's actions disappointed her greatly; he hadn't even shown her basic respect.
With that thought in mind, she slammed down her coffee cup, stood up, and went upstairs.
Gu Qingyan's face darkened further as he gazed thoughtfully at Shen Zhi Qiu's retreating figure.
Xiao Wanqing watched Gu Qingyan's changing expression, lowered her head, and a hint of coldness flashed in her eyes.
"I'm going upstairs for a bit, Wanqing, you wait for me here." Without waiting for Xiao Wanqing's reply, Gu Qingyan started walking towards the stairs.
With a "bang," Gu Qingyan pushed open the door.
"Could you please be more mindful of the noise you make when you open the door? It's very rude," Shen Zhi Qiu complained, frowning. She was certain he would follow.
"So you're being polite to Wanqing?"
"What? Mr. Gu, are you here to back up Miss Xiao?" Shen Zhi Qiu was really annoyed. She originally thought that he would at least appease her emotions if she stormed off, but now it seems that she had overestimated his importance.
Mr. Gu?
Gu Qingyan was taken aback, and a flame ignited in his eyes. He gritted his teeth and said, "Shen Zhi Qiu, what are you saying? I'm your husband, and you're calling me Mr. Gu?"
"What else? Mr. Gu, do you even know you're my husband? Have you ever defended me?" Shen Zhi Qiu laughed angrily. "If it weren't for how you defended Xiao Wan Qing, I would have thought you were such a cold and unapproachable block of ice!"
"Is that what you think of me?" Gu Qingyan's face darkened, and his tone became even harsher. "If you hadn't been so rude to Wanqing, would I have made you apologize to her?"
"Mr. Gu, please go see an ophthalmologist. Which eye of yours saw me being rude to her? Do you have X-ray vision? You knew I was bullying her before you even came in?" Shen Zhi Qiu threw the cushion in her hand at him.
Gu Qingyan was hit by a cushion. He looked down at the flower-patterned cushion that had rolled to the ground and paused, stunned. In their three years of marriage, he had never seen Shen Zhi Qiu so out of control and aggressive. In his memory, she had always been smiling, gentle, and polite. Even though he knew she was actually quite stubborn, after they got married, when they had conflicts, Shen Zhi Qiu would always consider his feelings and soften her stance to coax him. But ever since Xiao Wanqing moved into their house, it seemed like she had changed?
Moreover, he had come home a little later before, but she would always leave a soft light on by the bedside, waiting for him to return. Never before had the room been completely dark, and she had already gone to sleep, no longer waiting for him.
"Gu Qingyan, let's get a divorce!" Shen Zhi Qiu took a deep breath, seemingly having made a very difficult decision.
Gu Qingyan was stunned. Shen Zhi Qiu continued, "Anyway, you have no feelings for me. Now that Xiao Wanqing is back, I can see your feelings for her, so I'll grant you your wish."
After saying this, Shen Zhi Qiu felt completely relaxed. She often felt she couldn't hold onto him and that she would lose him sooner or later. Rather than living in constant worry, she decided to end things completely, let him go, and free herself as well.
"You're so generous!" Gu Qingyan's face turned icy.
"Then let's hurry up and get the formalities done. You don't have much stuff here, so pack up and move with Xiao Wanqing!" Shen Zhi Qiu was still a little worried when she saw that Gu Qingyan didn't refuse at all, but it was better for everyone this way.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Me, moving out? This house was bought by Grandpa." Gu Qingyan raised an eyebrow. "And which ear did you hear me agree to a divorce?"
"Seriously, Gu Qingyan? I've made such a huge sacrifice to make things happen for you two, and you won't even leave me a place to stay?" Shen Zhi Qiu tilted her head, looking at him with a half-smile, and said teasingly.
