Chapter 322 Countdown

"I transferred one million to you," Rong Hong said with a smile as he put his phone away.

"Uncle, 800,000 is enough, this is too much." Yan Yan felt a little embarrassed and at a loss, and couldn't help but rub her hands together.

"It's alright, it's always good to have extra. If it's not enough, just tell your uncle." Rong Hong smiled and invited Yan Yan to drink tea.

"Uncle, let me write you an IOU," Yan Yan said shyly, scratching her head as she stood up. "I'll go get some paper and a pen, and I'll write you an IOU right away."

"No need." Rong Hong paused for a moment, then smiled and waved his hand. "It's not much money, no need. I trust you."

"No, Uncle, since you trust me, I should show you my attitude. Please wait a moment, I'll write you an IOU right away." After saying that, Yan Yan ran towards the house without waiting for Rong Hong to refuse again.

Rong Hong shook his head helplessly and let her go. Soon, Yan Yan came out with an A4 sheet of paper. She folded the paper, handed it to Rong Hong, and solemnly thanked him, saying, "Thank you for your help, Uncle. This is an IOU. I will repay you every month, please don't worry."

Rong Hong smiled and took the paper. Seeing that Yan Yan insisted, he had no choice but to accept it and put it in his coat pocket. "Yan Yan, actually, you saved my life. Giving you a million as a thank you gift isn't too much," Rong Hong said gently, looking at Yan Yan earnestly.

“But I can’t accept it, Uncle. If it’s a loan, we have to follow the rules. You and President Rong have both treated me very well, and I should thank you.” Yan Yan said, bowing to Rong Hong to express her gratitude.

For a moment, time seemed to stand still. Rong Hong's gaze began to wander. He stared blankly at the bow hair clip that Yan Yan had somehow gotten into her hair, his eyes seemingly only seeing that splash of red. His thoughts were instantly pulled back to many years ago. Back then, his wife also always liked to wear a red bow hair clip, and her smile was exactly like Yan Yan's.

"Ah Hong, do you think the bow I'm wearing today looks good?"

"You look good in anything."

"So, do you think I look better in this black dress or this white dress?"

"You look good in everything, you look good in anything."

Rong Hong reached out, wanting to touch the ribbon in his wife's hair, but touched nothing. He snapped back to reality and realized the person before him was no longer his wife. His wife had passed away years ago. And he was now a middle-aged man over fifty. He gave a bitter smile, his heart a desolate wasteland.

"Uncle, what's wrong?" Yan Yan's voice pulled Rong Hong back to reality.

He composed himself, looked at Yan Yan, and realized that he had been momentarily distracted and mistook Yan Yan for his deceased wife.

"It's nothing, I was just thinking about some things from the past. Sorry, I was a little distracted." Rong Hong gave an awkward smile.

"Oh, I see." Yan Yan breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Then Uncle, please rest for a bit. I'll go get you some hot water; the tea has gone cold and isn't very good."

"Okay, thank you, Yan Yan." Rong Hong nodded and said.

Yan Yan turned and went into the kitchen, brewed another cup of tea, brought it out, and handed it to Rong Hong, saying, "Uncle, I made you a cup of hot milk tea. Try it and see if you like it."

Rong Hong smiled as he took the teacup, jokingly saying, "I'm already so old, why am I trying to drink milk tea like a young person?" He took a tentative sip, and his smile immediately froze on his face.

He looked up in surprise, his gaze drifting as he looked at Yan Yan, and asked, "Yan Yan, did you just make this milk tea?"

"Yes, is it good?" Yan Yan sat down opposite, picked up her own drink, and took a sip. "What's wrong? Don't you like it?"

"No, it's delicious." Rong Hong was a little dejected, but he couldn't help but pick up the cup and take a big gulp. He was filled with mixed emotions. He hadn't tasted this kind of milk tea in so many years.

“I like to drink tea in my spare time, so I learned to brew it myself. Also, I like milk tea, but I’ve heard that there are too many additives in the milk tea sold outside, so I’ve gradually started making milk tea at home.” Yan Yan said to herself, “But I don’t know if you will like this tea. If you don’t like it, I can change it for you.”

“No need, this tea is delicious, it’s exactly the same as the tea my late wife used to make.” Rong Hong’s eyes reddened slightly. “I haven’t had such delicious milk tea since she passed away.”

Rong Hong sighed, tears welling in his eyes. He lowered his head, clenched his hands, and tried to control his emotions.

Yan Yan was both surprised and touched by Rong Hong's reaction.

"Uncle, you must love your wife very much, otherwise you wouldn't have been single for so many years," Yan Yan asked softly.

Rong Hong raised his head, looked at Yan Yan, and then slowly began to tell his story. His wife was his college classmate; the two met, fell in love, and got to know each other at school. After graduation, they married and had children, and their business flourished. Later, his wife became pregnant with their second child, and just when he thought life would get better and better, life dealt him a heavy blow.

“At that time, I was overjoyed, thinking that our family of four would live a super happy life, but then I received the news that she had a difficult childbirth…” Rong Hong’s voice was a little choked up. “I will never be able to get over it. She gave everything for me and for this family.”

Yan Yan listened quietly. From Rong Hong's words, she could feel his deep love and longing for his wife, and she could understand why he had been single for so many years.

She lowered her head, a smile playing on her lips. But the moment she looked up, her expression shifted to one of heartache.

"Have you met anyone else who made your heart flutter since then?" Yan Yan continued to guide the conversation.

Rong Hong shook his head. "At such an old age, how could I possibly still expect these illusory things?"

“However, your wife must also hope that you can find a companion and doesn’t want to see you alone all the time,” Yan Yan said.

Rong Hong was stunned for a moment. He knew that his wife had always been a kind, gentle, and considerate woman. If she were still alive, she would definitely want him to live a happy and fulfilling life.

After a moment, Rong Hong said calmly, "I have obtained the most beautiful thing in my life. She is the best person I have ever met. She will always be in my heart. I am not alone."

Yan Yan frowned slightly, gently touched her bow hair clip, and silently counted, "Three, two, one, down."

As soon as the countdown ended, Rong Hong collapsed.
