Chapter 376 The Envelope is Lost and Found

Lu Jia chased after him to the beach. Just as she took her handbag off, Gu Qingyan rushed up behind her and exclaimed, "It's Wanqing's handwriting!" He then hurried forward, "Let me see what Wanqing wrote!"

Lu Jia shoved Gu Qingyan's hand away and said in an unfriendly tone, "I'll look first, you move aside!"

"What are you saying! Do you think you're more worried than me?" Gu Qingyan was also a little annoyed. He already disliked Lu Jia, and now he was even angrier, raising his voice to shout.

Lu Jia didn't have time to argue with him. She quickly opened the handbag and rummaged through the things Xiao Wanqing had left behind.

Inside was a black and gold button, which Lu Jia immediately recognized as belonging to Shen Zhi Qiu's coat. His heart ached as he looked at the button. Without time for grief, he put the button in his pocket and continued rummaging through the fabric, eventually finding an envelope in the innermost lining.

After confirming there was nothing else inside, Lu Jia casually tossed the bag onto the beach. Seeing this, Gu Qingyan immediately ran over, picked up the bag, lightly brushed off the dust, and returned angrily, shouting at Lu Jia, "What are you doing? What if there's something else in Wanqing's bag?"

Lu Jia ignored him and quickly tore open the envelope, intending to unpack the letter inside. He then pulled out his phone; it was already dark, and he wanted to use the flashlight to see the writing. But the next second, Gu Qingyan saw that Lu Jia had his back to him and wasn't responding to his shouts, and his anger instantly surged. He rushed up from behind and kicked Lu Jia hard, knocking him to the ground.

The tide had already started rising that night, and the moment Lu Jia fell, the tide swept the note away. Lu Jia went crazy. He grabbed his phone and turned on the flashlight, but there was no sign of the letter! He stared wide-eyed, desperately searching in the flashlight's beam, but it was all too late; the letter had been submerged by the tide.

Lu Jia quickly got up; his clothes were soaked through, and the howling sea breeze sent a chill through him. He gazed at the dark sea in the distance, his heart filled with endless sorrow and despair.

But this was no time for sorrow. Holding his phone high, he plunged into the sea, staring intently at the surface, trying to find the letter that had been swept away by the waves. That letter was his vital means of communication with Xiao Wanqing, and his only hope of saving Shen Zhi Qiu. He had only one thought in his mind: he had to find that letter.

Realizing the enormity of his mistake, Gu Qingyan quickly took off his shoes and rushed into the sea to search with Lu Jia. He was filled with remorse and self-reproach, knowing his carelessness had caused Lu Jia a great deal of trouble. He wanted to explain, to apologize, but Lu Jia ignored him.

At this moment, Lu Jia was filled with anxiety and worry. Only one thought occupied his mind: he had to find the letter Xiao Wanqing had written to him. If he didn't know what Xiao Wanqing had written on it, he might lose all means of communication, and the longer Shen Zhi Qiu remained in Xiao Wanqing's hands, the more dangerous she would become. His heart was pounding, and large beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"I'm sorry, Lu Jia, I didn't mean to lose the letter, I just..." Gu Qingyan murmured, feeling deeply remorseful. He knew his mistake could have serious consequences, and he was also worried about Shen Zhi Qiu's safety. However, his explanation and apology received no response from Lu Jia.

Seeing that he was still rambling on, Lu Jia turned around and said fiercely, "If Zhi Qiu dies because of you, I will never let you go!"

Upon hearing this, Gu Qingyan's expression turned rather unpleasant.

The two of them searched for the letter on the dark sea. The faint light from their cell phones reflected on the water, illuminating a small area around them. However, after searching for a long time, they couldn't find the letter.

As time passed, Lu Jia's despair grew. As darkness fell, the seawater became even more icy, and he began to doubt whether he could find the letter. He even felt dizzy, as if double images were appearing before him. He felt his body gradually weakening, and he didn't know how much longer he could hold on. However, he didn't give up and continued searching on the sea.

Time passed by, and the sky grew darker, but they still found nothing.

Looking into Lu Jia's determined eyes, Gu Qingyan knew that Lu Jia would not give up. However, they had already searched for too long in the icy seawater, and their bodies were at their limit. If they continued searching like this, it might be dangerous.

“Lu Jia, we’ve been searching for a long time, but we still haven’t found it. Should we go back first and come back to look again tomorrow morning?” Gu Qingyan said, his voice filled with exhaustion and helplessness.

Lu Jia didn't answer him, but continued searching on the sea. He knew he had to find the letter to save Shen Zhi Qiu. Suddenly, a white expanse flashed by in the tide. He looked closely and saw that it was the white envelope from before, floating on the sea not far away. Overjoyed, he put down his phone and quickly swam towards the envelope.

The waves crashed against his body, making swimming extremely difficult. But he did not give up. If he could not find the letter, Shen Zhi Qiu's life would be in danger, which would be worse than losing his own life.

Gu Qingyan also saw the envelope. He wanted to help Lu Jia, but seeing the waves carrying the envelope further and further away, he knew he was too weak. So he stopped and stood there, praying that Lu Jia would find the envelope safely.

Lu Jia swam closer and closer, and finally, he reached the envelope. A surge of joy filled him, and he grabbed the envelope tightly. But then he noticed it was soaked with seawater, and his heart sank; he worried the letter was now useless.

But he was still unwilling to give up. He opened the envelope, took out the letter inside, and held up his phone to try and make out the handwriting with the flashlight. However, the phone had already shut down after being submerged in seawater, so he had no choice but to stuff the envelope into his collar and swim back desperately.

"Lu Jia, have you found him?" Gu Qingyan was overjoyed to see Lu Jia return and quickly went up to ask.

Lu Jia didn't answer him; his face was already ashen from the cold. He quickly walked towards the streetlights on the shore.
