Lu Jia, suppressing his unease, cut the fifth red wire on the bomb.
Thankfully, it's safe.
Lu Jia and Shen Zhi Qiu exchanged a glance, easing the tense atmosphere.
“Lu Jia, the next one is very important. Once it's cut, the countdown will stop. Also, this one is tied to Zhi Qiu. After cutting it, we can remove the bomb from Zhi Qiu. That way, Zhi Qiu will be completely safe.” Jiang Bei checked the time. “I'll be there soon.”
Following Jiang Bei's instructions, Lu Jia gripped the scissors tightly, hesitating to make a decision. Although cutting this one scissor would stop the countdown, a mistake could mean their annihilation.
Lu Jia knew about this, and Shen Zhi Qiu was also very clear about it.
“Go ahead and cut it, Lu Jia.” Shen Zhi Qiu looked at him firmly. “No matter what, we’ll be together.”
Lu Jia nodded, gripped the scissors tightly, and cut.
The countdown stopped at 36 minutes and 15 seconds.
"It's stopped!" Lu Jia shouted happily to Jiang Bei in the video.
"Then hurry up and remove the bomb," Jiang Bei said quickly, fearing any unforeseen circumstances. "But remember, be very careful. Don't turn the bomb upside down, lest you trigger other switches. Make sure it's laid flat after you remove it, and then get off the ship immediately."
“Okay.” Lu Jia carefully removed the wire from Shen Zhi Qiu’s body. “Zhi Qiu, place the bomb flat in my hand and I’ll put it down. You run down the boat quickly. I’ll follow you after I put it down. I’m fast and I’ll catch up with you in no time.”
"Okay!" Shen Zhi Qiu didn't hesitate at this moment, nodding quickly. The instant she placed the bomb in Lu Jia's hands, she took off running towards the bottom of the ship, shouting as she ran, "Lu Jia, hurry up too!"
The bodyguards below rushed over at top speed to protect Shen Zhi Qiu.
However, after waiting for several minutes without seeing Lu Jia come out, she anxiously called out from below the boat, "Lu Jia, why aren't you coming down? Has something happened?"
"It's okay, I'll be right down," Lu Jia shouted, her voice as usual. "You go to the car with the bodyguard to rest and have something to eat. I'll be right down."
But Shen Zhi Qiu had a vague feeling that something was wrong. She was about to board the ship to check again when the bodyguards stopped her. "Miss, everything will be fine. Mr. Lu said he'll be down soon. Why don't you go and rest for a bit, and also prepare some food for Mr. Lu? He hasn't slept on his way here. Besides, if you go up now, you'll only disturb Mr. Lu."
Shen Zhi Qiu pursed her lips. The bodyguard's words made perfect sense, so she shouted at Lu Jia again, "Then hurry up, don't make me worry!"
"Okay, I'll be right there. You go first, sweetie, I'm coming down." Afraid that she would worry, Lu Jia poked her head out of the boat and looked at Shen Zhi Qiu tenderly.
Shen Zhi Qiu was relieved and left with the bodyguards.
As Lu Jia watched her retreating figure, his eyes filled with reluctance, and his heart felt desolate.
Just as Shen Zhiqi ran off the deck and was about to place the bomb in his left hand, the bomb's emergency switch was activated instantly, and two wires suddenly extended and quickly wrapped around Lu Jia's left wrist.
The countdown started instantly, twice as fast as the normal countdown.
"Jiangbei, something's wrong," Lu Jia whispered, pointing the video at his wrist.
"Damn it!" Jiang Bei was stunned for a moment, then gritted his teeth and shouted, "This Xiao Wanqing is simply insane! Lu Jia, remember this, you only have one chance. The two wires must be cut one after the other, but if the first wire is cut incorrectly, it will explode immediately. The two wires are the same color and there is no difference between them, which means we can only rely on luck."
"I understand." Lu Jia calmed down instead. "Luckily, I'm not stuck with Zhi Qiu."
"I'm hanging up now. I need to get away from the shore. Zhi Qiu is safe now." Lu Jia pursed her lips. "Jiang Bei, if I'm not so lucky, please keep an eye on Zhi Qiu for me. We must catch Xiao Wanqing, otherwise she'll harm Zhi Qiu again next time!"
"Lu Jia, you!" Jiang Bei was speechless for a moment. "I'll be there soon! Hold on!"
Lu Jia quickly walked to the cockpit, his left hand firmly supporting the bomb box. He glanced at the time; nine minutes and sixteen seconds remained. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves.
Seeing the ship suddenly start and head towards the sea, Shen Zhi Qiu immediately sensed something was wrong. She jumped to her feet and rushed towards the ship, but due to prolonged hunger and extreme stress, her legs gave way and she collapsed to the ground. The bodyguards were startled and quickly helped her up.
Shen Zhi Qiu struggled to get over, but the bodyguards realized something was wrong and held her back.
The ship quickly moved away from the sea. Lu Jia glanced at the time on the bomb screen; there were four minutes and fifty-three seconds left.
He clearly remembered what Jiang Bei had said: the two wires had to be cut one after the other, but if the first one was cut incorrectly, it would explode immediately. This meant he only had one chance, and he had to make a decision in a very short time.
Lu Jia carefully examined the color and texture of the two threads, trying to find some clues. However, the two threads looked exactly the same. His heart began to race, and his palms started to sweat.
Lu Jia took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He knew that the tension and anxiety at this moment would only impair his judgment.
He reached out a trembling hand and slowly approached the bomb. His fingers gently touched the two wires, feeling their texture and warmth. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then decisively cut one of the wires.
For a fleeting moment, his heart seemed to stop, awaiting his fate. However, when he opened his eyes and found the bomb hadn't exploded, his heart began to beat again. He gasped for breath, beads of sweat trickling down his face. He realized he was alive, with thirty-five seconds left.
Lu Jia took another deep breath and quickly cut the remaining wire. No explosion was heard, and the countdown on the screen stopped at ten seconds. Lu Jia breathed a sigh of relief, removed the bomb, and carefully placed it on the dashboard, wanting to catch his breath. But the next second, the countdown started again.
Lu Jia's face changed drastically, and his mind went blank. He could hardly believe his eyes; he didn't know why the bomb had detonated again. He only knew that he had to drop the bomb into the sea as soon as possible, or it would be too late.
He glanced back and saw that the bomb was already smoking and could explode at any moment. He had no time to think or be afraid; he desperately rushed out of the cabin, his heart pounding and his breathing becoming increasingly rapid.
Just as he reached the edge of the boat, ready to jump into the sea, the bomb exploded.
