One month later.
On a stormy night, Gu Qingyan, like a wandering, lonely soul, reappeared at the gate of the Gu family villa. His figure appeared particularly desolate and forlorn in the dim light.
He knelt upright at the gate, his black clothes soaked through and clinging to his body. His hair was disheveled, raindrops dripping from the ends, mingling with the dirt and weariness on his face.
He reached up and wiped his face; his hands were covered in tiny cuts, and bright red blood began to seep out after being soaked by the rain.
At this moment, the light from the Gu family's living room shone through the gaps in the curtains onto the doorway. Gu Qingyan knelt there, head bowed, looking even more lonely and helpless.
The butler strode in and reported the situation outside to Gu's parents. Upon hearing Gu Qingyan's name, Mu Ziqi's expression changed drastically. Clutching her chest, she angrily declared, "If he likes to kneel, let him kneel to his heart's content! I have no such unfilial son!" Her voice was sharp and cold, revealing her extreme disappointment and anger towards Gu Qingyan.
Seeing Mu Ziqi's pained expression, Gu Suian gently patted her shoulder. "Don't be angry. It's not worth ruining your health. Perhaps Qingyan has suffered a lot outside this past month and has truly repented?" His voice was gentle and comforting, trying to calm Mu Ziqi's anger.
Mu Ziqi took a deep breath and, after a while, convinced herself to nod to Gu Suian. "Then go out and see him. I don't want to see him." Her tone still revealed her dissatisfaction and resentment towards Gu Qingyan.
Gu Suian sighed and turned to leave the living room. He reached the doorway and looked at Gu Qingyan kneeling in the rain, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside him. He remembered how proud and confident his son had once been, but now, for the sake of a woman, he had become so pathetic and dejected.
Immediately, anger surged within me again, and I felt a sense of disappointment and frustration.
"What are you doing back here?" Gu Suian's tone revealed anger and disappointment. "You've made your mother furious. If you hadn't come back today to kneel down and apologize, you wouldn't be in here."
Gu Qingyan raised his head and looked at Gu Suian. His eyes were filled with endless regret and pain. "Dad, I know I was wrong." His voice was hoarse. "Please forgive me."
After all, he was his own son. Seeing him come back in such a humble manner, begging for his forgiveness, Gu Suian felt a little soft-hearted. He stepped forward and tried to help Gu Qingyan up.
Unexpectedly, Gu Qingyan's words the next second plunged his heart into an ice cave.
"Dad, I hope you can agree to let me have a wedding."
Gu Suian stared wide-eyed in shock at Gu Qingyan, as if he had heard the most absurd thing in the world. His face was filled with disappointment and anger, and his eyes flickered with complex emotions.
"What...what did you say? Say it again?" Gu Suian asked in disbelief, his voice trembling.
Gu Qingyan raised his head and looked at Gu Suian, his eyes filled with determination and persistence. "Dad, I hope you can agree to let me hold a wedding." His voice was hoarse, but it was unusually firm, as if he was ready to face anything.
Gu Suian was stunned; he couldn't understand Gu Qingyan's thoughts at all. He thought his son had realized his mistakes and come back seeking forgiveness and a chance to start over. But he never expected that Gu Qingyan would propose a wedding at this moment.
"Are you crazy?" Gu Suian roared. "You've made your mother so angry! And now you're still thinking about having a wedding?!" His voice was full of anger and disappointment, and he clenched his fists.
Gu Qingyan did not back down. He still looked at Gu Suian firmly and said, "Dad, I know I was wrong. But I truly love Wanqing. I didn't cherish her enough when she was alive, and I didn't give her everything I could."
Now, I cannot give up our love just because she has left this world. I hope you can understand me and support me.
Gu Suian was stunned; he couldn't believe his ears. Looking into Gu Qingyan's resolute and determined eyes, an indescribable feeling welled up inside him. He knew that his son had completely lost himself, trapped in a quagmire from which he couldn't escape.
"Go away!" Gu Suian waved his hand angrily. "I will never agree to your wedding! And don't come home! The Gu family doesn't have a son like you!" His voice was full of despair and helplessness, and he had completely given up on Gu Qingyan as his son.
"Dad!" Gu Qingyan knelt forward, pleading, "Dad, I beg you, please grant my wish. This is my only wish. I feel this is the last thing I can do for Wanqing. Please, please grant my wish!"
"He's gone mad, he's gone mad, he's really gone mad!" Gu Suian gasped for breath, clutching his chest, and said fiercely, "Just give up on that idea, your mother and I will never agree to it! This is absurd!"
"Is it that nothing I do pleases you?" Gu Qingyan laughed self-deprecatingly. "Sometimes I even doubt if I'm really your son! Why are you all so harsh on me? I just want to make up for Wanqing's regret. She's already dead. Is that too much to ask?!"
Gu Qingyan stood up, his body trembling with anger in the rain. He pointed a trembling finger at Gu Suian, his voice roaring like thunder: "I shouldn't have come back to beg you! You have no compassion at all. Wanqing is someone you've watched grow up. You don't care about her, but I do!" Tears welled in his eyes, his voice choked with sobs, yet filled with resentment and rage.
"You all know I love Wanqing. Now she's all alone, drifting at the bottom of the sea like a lost soul. All I want is to give her some dignity. Is this small request too difficult for you?!" His voice echoed in the rainy night, every word filled with despair and pleading.
Gu Suian was shocked by Gu Qingyan's anger and despair. He was so angry that his fingers trembled and his face turned ashen. "Nonsense!" he shouted. "Butler! Throw this unfilial son out! Throw him out! Never let him set foot in this house again!"
The butler rushed over upon hearing the commotion. Seeing Gu Qingyan's angry and resolute gaze, he hesitated. However, urged by Gu Suian, he had no choice but to order the bodyguards to take action.
The bodyguards hesitated before stepping forward, but Gu Qingyan showed no sign of backing down. He rushed to Gu Suian, pointed at him, and said through gritted teeth, "Fine, from this moment on, I sever all ties with the Gu family. From now on, I am no longer a son of the Gu family, and I will never come back. I don't have parents like you who are ungrateful, heartless, and have no regard for past relationships! You are simply the most unreasonable and cruel parents in the world!"
Gu Qingyan's words pierced Gu Suian's heart like a sharp knife. Gu Suian's heart tightened with anger, and he pointed tremblingly at Gu Qingyan, wanting to say something. However, at that moment, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest, and collapsed, his face pale.
