Chapter 442 Broken Fragments

"Do you remember where you're from?" Xingxing frowned, her eyes revealing her worry for Lu Jia.

“No.” Lu Jia shook his head, his voice low. “I can’t remember. I only remember Zhi Qiu.” His eyes were unfocused, as if he were searching for that blurred memory.

"It seems she hasn't recovered yet," Xingxing said softly, turning to look at Ayu. Her lips pursed slightly, revealing her anxiety.

Lu Jia looked at the bandage on his leg, which had been changed, and gratefully raised his head to look at A Yu and Xing Xing, saying, "Thank you for saving me. If I remember anything, my family will definitely reward you handsomely."

Ayu quickly waved his hand and smiled憨厚ly: "No need, no need, we didn't save you for a reward."

Lu Jia gently touched the gauze on his face. When he touched the scab that had formed on the wound, he frowned slightly and asked cautiously, "Could you please give me a mirror?"

Ayu nodded, turned, and walked to the window. He picked up a slightly worn bronze mirror from the table and handed it to Lu Jia. Taking the mirror, Lu Jia raised his hand and carefully placed it in front of his eyes. He looked at himself in the mirror; his left cheek was wrapped in thick gauze, revealing only a pair of deep-set eyes. He gently touched the wound on his face and found that it had scabbed over, but he could still feel a slight pain.

Seeing Lu Jia's expression, Xingxing immediately understood his worry. She walked to his side and gently comforted him, "It's okay. The doctor said that as long as you pay attention to your diet and take your medication on time, it won't leave a deep scar."

Lu Jia raised her head and said softly, "Thank you," but her expression remained serious.

"Oh, by the way, here's a cane for you. The doctor said you can try getting out of bed and walking around; it'll help with your recovery." Ayu said, placing the wooden cane she had made beside Lu Jia's bed. The handle of the cane was carved into the shape of ocean waves, as if it contained the power and gentleness of the sea.

“But the doctor instructed that you shouldn’t put weight on your right foot, so I made you a crutch out of the trunk of a kapok tree. There are many things that can’t be bought on the island, so use this for now, and I’ll buy you a better one when I go out later.” Ayu explained carefully, afraid that Lu Jia would think the crutch was too rough.

"No need, thank you. This one is fine." Lu Jia looked at the cane, a grateful smile on his face. He gently stroked the handle, feeling A Yu's care and enthusiasm.

Ayu rubbed his hands a little embarrassedly, "No need to be so polite. We just hope you can recover soon. I'm sure your family is very worried."

"Can you remember anyone's phone number?" Xingxing frowned, as if she had thought of something. "If you can, we can go to the island and borrow a phone from someone."

"Isn't there a phone here?" Lu Jia asked, somewhat surprised. In this day and age, he hadn't expected anyone to be without a cell phone.

“We don’t have one.” Ayu scratched his head awkwardly. “I usually go out fishing to make a living, and Xingxing is in poor health and can only stay at home, so we don’t need a cell phone.”

Just as Lu Jia was about to ask if they didn't need to contact their families, Xingxing added, "Ayu and I are both orphans, so no one will contact us." Her voice revealed a sense of helplessness and strength.

Lu Jia pursed his lips and said softly, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect it to turn out like this." A strange emotion welled up inside him. On this unfamiliar island, he felt the warmth and care from A Yu and Xing Xing. Although they were both orphans and their lives were not wealthy, they were still willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

"It's alright. Although we're not rich, we're happy to live a leisurely and carefree life."

This island is quite secluded and far from the city. Occasionally, people come here and marvel at how undiscovered its beauty has become, but they all feel happy and at ease during their stay. "We're already very lucky to live here," Xingxing said with a smile, her expression content.

"Want to go out and have a look? The weather is so nice outside, the scenery is really beautiful," Xingxing suddenly suggested to Lu Jia. "Going out to soak up some sun would be nice!"

Lu Jia smiled and nodded. A Yu helped him sit up, and Lu Jia, holding his cane in his right hand, carefully got out of bed.

Ayu carefully helped Lu Jia tidy her clothes. Xingxing walked to the window, drew back the curtains, and bright sunlight instantly filled the entire room. The sea breeze gently blew in through the half-open window, bringing with it the fresh scent of the sea.

"Look, how blue the sky is!" Xingxing exclaimed excitedly, pointing out the window. Lu Jia looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a vast expanse of blue sky, with a few white clouds drifting lazily by, like pure angels guarding the island.

The three of them walked along the winding path, with Ayu keeping a close eye on Lu Jia's movements, ready to help at any time.

On both sides were dense forests and colorful wildflowers. A gentle sea breeze blew, the leaves rustled, and occasionally a few birds flew down from the treetops, leaving behind a string of cheerful chirps.

After walking for a while, they finally arrived at a wide-open beach. Sunlight filtered through the sparse clouds, scattering across the sea, making it sparkle like countless tiny diamonds.

Lu Jia looked up at the azure sky, his heart filled with an unusual tranquility. He took off his slippers and placed his uninjured left foot on the sand. The sand gently slid under his feet, carrying the unique touch of the seaside, making him feel incredibly comfortable and relaxed.

"Ah, this feels so good!" Lu Jia exclaimed. He looked up at the sky, the sunlight warm and bright on his face. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath of the fresh air, and felt the bounty of nature. The sea breeze gently brushed his cheeks, and he smelled the unique saltiness of the sea.

However, just as Lu Jia was immersed in this tranquility and beauty, some fragmented memories suddenly flashed through his mind.

A girl with flowing long hair, crying cries, an indistinct countdown, a departing figure, and the sound of explosions with flames shooting into the sky... These images played rapidly in his mind like a silent movie.

Lu Jia suddenly felt a splitting headache, as if someone was squeezing his heart tightly. He clutched his head and cried out in pain. Xingxing and Ayu were startled by his cries and rushed to his side, asking him with concern what was wrong.

"Lu Jia, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Xingxing asked anxiously.

Lu Jia bent over in pain, clutching her head tightly with both hands, and mumbled incoherently, "My head hurts...it hurts so much...Zhi Qiu!"
