Chapter 461 Setting a Trap

On a bench on the lawn downstairs in the hospital.

Xiao Wanrou sat quietly, her gaze somewhat vacant as she stared into the distance. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a soft glow on her face, creating a gentle beauty.

Gu Qingyan came downstairs and saw Xiao Wanrou as soon as he stepped out of the building. His gaze lingered on her for a moment, and he thought about his conversation with Bai Xin earlier that day, realizing that he might really have been at fault that night.

After hesitating for a moment, I slowly walked over.

He noticed that Xiao Wanrou's eyes were somewhat unfocused, as if she was pondering something important. He gently sat down beside her, without saying a word, simply keeping her company quietly.

After a long while, Xiao Wanrou slowly turned her head and saw Gu Qingyan beside her. A hint of surprise flashed across her face, followed by a faint smile. She said softly, "Brother Qingyan, what are you doing here?"

Gu Qingyan looked at her and said gently, "I just came downstairs and saw you sitting here alone, so I came over to say hello."

The sunlight shone on them, bathing them in a golden glow. Everything around them seemed to stand still.

The atmosphere between the two suddenly became warm and harmonious.

"I'm sorry about what happened that night. I misunderstood you." Gu Qingyan's voice was low and sincere, every word seeming to come from the bottom of his heart.

Hearing Gu Qingyan's apology, Xiao Wanrou was slightly taken aback. She looked up at the man before her; his face was filled with seriousness and determination. She knew that Gu Qingyan was not one to easily back down; his apology meant he truly realized his mistake.

"You can name your conditions." Gu Qingyan paused, his tone revealing an undeniable determination. "I'll give you whatever I can." His voice was firm and powerful, filled with sincerity.

However, Xiao Wanrou gently shook her head, "No need." Her voice was indifferent, revealing little emotion. She lowered her eyes slightly, concealing the complex emotions within, making it impossible for Gu Qingyan to see into her inner world.

Gu Qingyan looked at her, a bad feeling creeping into his heart.

He would rather she ask for money, even if she asked for an exorbitant amount, at least he would feel at ease.

He reached out and handed a business card to Xiao Wanrou, saying, "If you think of me later, you can come find me."

Xiao Wanrou took the business card, her heart filled with mixed feelings.

"Brother Qingyan." Xiao Wanqing saw Gu Qingyan stand up and knew he was about to leave, so she suddenly called out to him softly.

Gu Qingyan turned around and looked at her.

"Hmm?" Gu Qingyan asked softly, "What's wrong?"

"Brother Qingyan, is Sister Wanqing the only one in your heart?" Xiao Wanrou suddenly spoke up. Her voice was soft, and her eyes were clear and transparent, as if she wanted to peer into the depths of Gu Qingyan's heart.

Gu Qingyan glanced at her, his gaze immediately turning cold. A strange sense of irritation welled up within him, as if Xiao Wanrou's question had touched a sensitive nerve. He remained silent for a moment, then said coldly, "Why are you asking this?" His voice revealed a clear displeasure and evasiveness.

Xiao Wanrou nervously rubbed her fingers together in her palm. A hint of disappointment and sadness flashed across her face, but she quickly concealed it. She knew that Gu Qingyan's answer was clear enough, and she didn't need to ask any further.

"That's not something you should ask." Gu Qingyan said nothing more, left with that sentence.

Xiao Wanrou sat quietly on a bench downstairs at the hospital for a long time, her gaze unfocused, as if staring into the distant void. The surrounding noise was irrelevant to her; at that moment, her world seemed to consist only of the sound of her own heartbeat. A gentle breeze ruffled her long hair, bringing a slight coolness, but it could not soothe the turmoil in her heart.

Finally, she calmed down. She stood up, holding onto the cold handrail, and walked step by step toward the elevator.

Just as she entered the ward, Bai Xin's voice suddenly rang out: "Rou Rou, come here." Her voice carried an undeniable air of authority.

Xiao Wanrou's body trembled slightly. She turned her head and saw Bai Xin frowning at her, her expression unfriendly. A sense of unease welled up in her heart, but she still obediently walked over and sat down by the hospital bed.

"Auntie, Uncle," Xiao Wanrou called out softly, her voice trembling slightly, revealing her nervousness and unease.

Bai Xin stared at her, a sharp glint in her eyes. She was fixed on Xiao Wanrou's eyes, as if trying to see through her soul. "You told me before that you only dropped Qingyan off at her room that night and then stayed in the room next door, is that right?" Her voice was cold and stern, sending chills down one's spine.

Xiao Wanrou pursed her lips, her fingers unconsciously digging into her palms, as if searching for a sliver of support. She raised her head, meeting Bai Xin's gaze, her eyes revealing a hint of determination and resolve. "Yes." Her voice, though soft, was exceptionally clear, as if each word carried her resolve and courage.

"Really? Rou Rou," Bai Xin's face darkened instantly, her eyes sharp as knives, piercing Xiao Wan Rou's heart. "You think you're all grown up now, you've even learned to lie, haven't you?" Her tone was full of reproach and disappointment, making Xiao Wan Rou's heart sink.

Xiao Wanrou was intimidated by Bai Xin's imposing aura. Her face turned pale instantly, and a hint of panic flashed in her eyes. She subconsciously bit her lip, then nervously clenched her fingertips in a hoarse voice, trying to hide her unease. "Auntie, I didn't."

Bai Xin gave a cold laugh. "No?" Her tone was full of doubt and dissatisfaction. "I knew something was wrong from the way Qingyan looked at you today. You've really grown up now; you're starting to disobey!"

Seeing that Xiao Wanrou was sweating with nervousness, Xiao Chun frowned with heartache. He quickly spoke up to stop her, saying, "Bai Xin, don't be so harsh. Don't frighten the child." His voice was gentle, revealing his care and protection for Xiao Wanrou.

However, Bai Xin didn't listen. She glared at Xiao Chun and snapped, "I scared her?! Why don't you say she lied to me?!" Her tone was full of anger, as if she wanted to vent all her resentment.

Seeing Bai Xin's angry expression, Xiao Wanrou felt even more frightened. She knew that this time she could no longer hide the truth. She took a deep breath and mustered her courage to say, "Auntie, I'm sorry. I did lie to you. That night, I didn't stay in the room next door, but... I stayed in Qingyan's room."

“After a while, go find Gu Qingyan and tell him you’re pregnant!” Bai Xin said bluntly.
