Chapter 72 Something Happened to the Gu Family

The driver sped along the mountain road with Gu Qingyan in his car.

"'Shanshan' is a well-known online suspense novelist whose real name is unknown. She rose to fame overnight with her work 'The Mystery of the Garden Hotel' and became a platinum author on Bluepoint Novels website."

Last year, the well-known online writer "Shanshan" successfully entered the top three of the online writer rich list with royalties of 80 million yuan.

"A book lover's dream has arrived! Shan Shan's 'The Mystery of the Garden Hotel' is about to be adapted into a film and television series!"

"Shanshan's new book will be released soon, please look forward to it..."

......

Gu Qingyan stared blankly at the various reports about "Shanshan" on his phone, his eyes filled with confusion. Even now, he couldn't connect Shen Zhi Qiu with a writer.

He closed his eyes and began trying to piece together some fragments in his mind.

After they got married, to increase their time together, she would sometimes curl up on the beanbag chair in his study with her laptop, sinking into it, comfortably drinking coffee and typing away, sitting there for hours on end. He would be working overtime at his desk, and sometimes he would complain that her typing was disturbing his concentration.

Later, she asked for a separate study, but he refused, saying, "You don't work, why do you need a study?" Looking back now, he realizes she rarely made any demands of him; she usually just used whatever he gave her. It seems she never really showed any particular preferences in front of him, always remaining reserved.

Gu Qingyan sighed softly. Over the years, it seemed that only in front of Si Mingyu did Shen Zhi Qiu's eyes shine, become lively, and possess a vibrant life force.

But later, when that incident happened, Si Mingyu didn't choose her. The light in her eyes dimmed.

She probably married him with regrets.

Thinking of this, Gu Qingyan felt a pang of heartache.

He opened his eyes to a pitch-black mountain road, his heart as desolate as the view outside the window. To escape him, she had chosen to live in such a remote place. Did she hate him that much?

Is he really inferior to Si Mingyu?

He remembered the year Xiao Wanqing returned to China. She told him that Shen Zhi Qiu's heart still belonged only to Si Ming Yu, which he initially didn't believe. But that night, when he returned home drunk, he found Shen Zhi Qiu already asleep in the bedroom. A corner of a photograph was sticking out on the floor beside the bed. He picked it up and saw that it was a photo of Shen Zhi Qiu and Si Ming Yu together. The smile on Shen Zhi Qiu's face in the photo was one he had never seen before. From that moment on, he became completely indifferent to her.

Gu Qingyan pressed her aching temples, unable to recall anything more.

He glanced at the news online, then turned off the screen, not wanting to read any further. He felt like he'd never truly understood her. He wondered if, in the past three years, he'd been able to calmly sit down and talk things out with Shen Zhi Qiu, they might not have ended up getting a divorce.

"Mr. Gu, we've arrived." The driver parked the car at the entrance of the sanatorium, then hesitated before saying, "Mr. Gu, it's pitch black here, we can't see anything. Let's go in tomorrow after it gets light. Otherwise, it would be too dangerous if we didn't see where we were stepping in the forest and accidentally stepped into a hole."

Gu Qingyan nodded.

I spent a sleepless night.

The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Gu Qingyan opened the car door and got out.

He took a deep breath; the cool morning air instantly woke him up.

"Mr. Gu, I checked, and this door leads quite far from the center of the sanatorium, and the staff aren't here either. I'm already trying to contact the director; we should have to wait for the staff to come and pick us up when they arrive at work."

"I'll go in and take a look first. You wait here for the staff. Call me if anything happens," Gu Qingyan said, and slowly walked up the steps.

He couldn't put it into words, but he had a strong premonition that Shen Zhi Qiu was here.

With that thought in mind, he quickened his pace.

He quickly stepped onto the last step and looked up. Although he didn't see anyone, the small courtyard was full of traces of Shen Zhi Qiu's life.

A whole expanse of pink roses was her favorite, just as vibrant and beautiful as the flower wall where she took photos years ago. The lounge chair beneath the flower wall swayed gently in the breeze, and the gardenias on the table still emitted a faint fragrance. The macaron ceramic cups next to the vase were also from a brand that Shen Zhi Qiu liked. He could even imagine what she would be like living here on a daily basis.

Looking at the tightly closed door in front of him, Gu Qingyan stepped forward and gently knocked on the door, but there was no answer.

He walked to the window and looked inside. The room's furnishings were not what Shen Zhi Qiu liked, and it was empty, as if no one had ever lived there.

Gu Qingyan frowned and went to the next room to check out the other rooms.

Seeing the familiar arrangement of books by the window, he immediately recognized this as Shen Zhi Qiu's room, but it was empty. The bed was somewhat disheveled, and many things in the room had been moved around, suggesting a hasty departure. He tried to turn the doorknob, but it was locked and wouldn't open.

He frowned, looked at the wooden door in front of him, took two steps back, and then kicked it hard with his foot. With a loud bang, the door opened.

He went inside and picked up a book that was open by the window; the bookmark was made from leaves from the leaves by the door.

He held up the bookmark, and in the sunlight, the veins of the leaf roots were clearly visible. He couldn't help but recall how every autumn, Shen Zhi Qiu would collect leaves in the villa's courtyard, carefully washing and pressing each leaf to make bookmarks.
