While he was lost in thought, Si Mingyu suddenly received a call from Meng Yunche.
"Hey, Mingyu, are you free?"
"What's wrong?" Si Mingyu thought he was being invited to go drinking and was about to refuse when he heard Meng Yunche say, "If you have time, let's go to the hospital together to visit Jingran and Wanqing."
"Jingran? What happened to him?" Si Mingyu was a little confused, but remembering the time Fu Jingran fought with Gu Qingyan in the Blue Domain for Xiao Wanqing, he had a bad feeling. Before Meng Yunche could answer, he pursed his lips and said, "I'll go with you."
"Okay, then An'an and I will wait for you at the hospital entrance."
"An'an is back?" Si Mingyu raised an eyebrow, remembering that Shen Zhi Qiu had said he ran into An'an at the sanatorium, but he still had doubts.
"Yeah, I'm back, hehe." Meng Yunche replied cheerfully.
Half an hour later, Si Mingyu arrived at the hospital, where Meng Yunche and An'an had been waiting for a long time.
"Why would Jingran be at the Gu family's villa with Wanqing so late at night?" Si Mingyu asked casually as they walked towards the ward.
"We don't know either." Meng Yunche scratched his head. "I also find it strange. Why would Jingran go to see Wanqing in the middle of the night? They're not that close, are they?" Meng Yunche was completely drunk that night, so naturally he didn't remember anything about that night.
“We’ll find out by going up and asking. Guessing won’t help. Miss Xiao’s situation is an open secret among us, so it’s not appropriate to comment,” An’an said calmly.
She was clearly grumpy from being woken up. She hadn't wanted to come, but Meng Yunche had kept bothering her for a while, so she couldn't sleep and decided to come along.
Si Mingyu glanced at her, somewhat surprised by her blunt words.
"Um, An'an doesn't like Wanqing." Meng Yunche saw Si Mingyu's gaze and explained with an awkward smile.
Si Mingyu nodded without saying anything.
The three arrived at the ward door. Si Mingyu knocked gently, and there were rustling footsteps inside. Soon, the door was opened. Fu Jingran peeked out and wasn't surprised to see them.
"Wanqing, your friends have come to see you." Fu Jingran stepped aside and walked inside on his own.
Xiao Wanqing sat up in bed and greeted them with a smile.
All three were somewhat surprised, because Xiao Wanqing's complexion was rosy, not at all like someone who needed to be hospitalized. Si Mingyu frowned, feeling a little uneasy.
"Wanqing, are you hurt anywhere?" Meng Yunche couldn't keep anything to himself and immediately asked her with curiosity.
"She's fine, just frightened," Fu Jingran said calmly on Xiao Wanqing's behalf, sitting in a chair next to the hospital bed.
Si Mingyu glanced at Fu Jingran's bandaged hand without showing any emotion and asked softly, "Jingran, is your hand alright?"
Meng Yunche and An'an then noticed Fu Jingran's hands, which he was deliberately hiding at his side, and looked at him with concern.
Fu Jingran coughed slightly, "It's nothing, just a minor issue. I accidentally got burned by the fire while putting it out. It'll be fine in a bit."
"Thank goodness you're all alright! I was terrified when I heard the news! How could there have been a fire so suddenly?!" Meng Yunche asked anxiously.
"We didn't know either. We were drinking in the living room when the kitchen caught fire. By the time we found out, the fire was already too big, and the thick smoke made it hard for us to open our eyes."
We escaped, but Aunt Huang wasn't so lucky. It's all my fault. If I hadn't been drinking with Wanqing and was too drunk to save Aunt Huang, we wouldn't have been able to." Fu Jingran said, still somewhat shaken, as he recalled last night's fire.
Si Mingyu stood aside, carefully observing Fu Jingran's expression. Although his tone was full of relief at surviving the ordeal and regret for not being able to save Aunt Huang, there was no emotion in his eyes. Clearly, what he said was not true; it was just a prepared line.
"Why are you two drinking together so late?" Meng Yunche asked, somewhat puzzled. After all, it seemed inappropriate for the two of them, a man and a woman, to be drinking together so late at night.
"I..." Xiao Wanqing was about to say something when she was interrupted by the sound of the door lock being turned.
Gu Qingyan came in looking travel-worn, followed by a panicked Huang Lin.
He wasn't wearing his usual dark suit jacket; he was only wearing a white shirt, which was noticeably wrinkled, and his messy hair made him look like he had rushed over from somewhere.
He glanced coldly at everyone in the room, then strode toward Xiao Wanqing's bedside.
A hint of surprise appeared on Xiao Wanqing's face, but it quickly turned cold as she lowered her eyes, not wanting to look at him.
"Wanqing, are you alright? The doctor just told me you were too frightened last night." Gu Qingyan ignored her cold reaction, his lips moved slightly, and he asked softly.
"Qingyan." Fu Jingran suddenly spoke, his gaze falling on Gu Qingyan, a hint of coldness in his eyes. He curled his lips into a mocking smile, "You're so focused on sending Wanqing to prison, why are you still concerned about her now? You should go find Shen Zhiqiu, after all, she's your rightful wife."
"These are two separate matters and should not be confused. You need not trouble yourself with my wife's affairs."
"Wanqing did something wrong and should take responsibility, but my concern for her stems from brotherly affection. You have no right to interfere here, do you?" Gu Qingyan replied coldly.
"How could I not have the right to interfere? Wanqing is my fiancée, and anything related to her is naturally my business." Fu Jingran smiled wickedly, took Xiao Wanqing's hand, and subtly raised an eyebrow at her, the threat unmistakable.
