Gu Ningning's eyelids twitched, and she thought to herself that Shen Zhi Qiu had really grown up a lot since she last saw her. She had thought that if Gu Suian spoke up for her, her crisis would be over, but with Shen Zhi Qiu saying this, Gu Suian probably wouldn't help her anymore.
Sure enough, after hearing Shen Zhi Qiu's words, Gu Suian's expression visibly relaxed, and the look in his eyes towards Gu Ningning was no longer filled with pity. He lowered his face and said to Gu Ningning in the manner of an elder, "Ningning, since it's a dress you like, then wear it home. Don't be polite with your sister-in-law."
Gu Ningning bit her lip, but still forced herself to show a well-behaved smile. "Okay, Uncle, I just thought this dress was cute and thought my sister-in-law might like it, so I bought it for her. Since it's such a coincidence that it's back here today, I'll wear it."
Shen Zhi Qiu glanced at her impassively, suspecting that Gu Ning Ning was definitely up to something, which was why she was acting like this. Zhou Xiao Ran also tugged at her sleeve, reminding her. Shen Zhi Qiu gave her a reassuring look, but before she could say anything, Mu Zi Qi grabbed her hands.
"My child, you've really suffered lately." Mu Ziqi gently stroked the back of Shen Zhiqiu's hand, looking at her face, which had become thinner instead of fatter after becoming pregnant, and felt heartbroken.
Shen Zhi Qiu lowered her head, unsure how to respond. Mu Zi Qi had always treated her like her own daughter, unconditionally protecting her. If they divorced, the person she would miss most was Mu Zi Qi.
She remembered that not long after she and Gu Qingyan got married, during the Spring Festival, Gu Qingyan happened to be away on a business trip, and the family servants were also given time off by Shen Zhi Qiu to go home for the New Year, leaving her alone at home in the entire villa.
As in previous years, Mu Ziqi and Gu Suian flew to a warmer place than Nancheng to spend the winter. Since giving birth to Gu Qingyan, Mu Ziqi's health had been poor, especially during the cold winter months when she would often cough. Therefore, Gu Suian would take her to a tropical region for the winter during the coldest period. They would only return when the weather warmed up.
While browsing in a duty-free shop, Mu Ziqi saw something she liked and wanted to call Shen Zhi Qiu to ask which color she preferred, but found that the call wouldn't go through. She then called Gu Qingyan, who said he was on a business trip out of town. He also tried calling Shen Zhi Qiu, but there was no answer either, and the landline at home went unanswered.
Gu Qingyan told her not to worry, maybe she was out and didn't hear the phone ring. But when Mu Ziqi called Shen Zhiqi that evening, there was still no answer.
So he immediately pulled Gu Suian to change their tickets to the earliest flight the next day and flew back.
She and Gu Suian went straight to the Gu family villa after leaving the airport.
Thankfully, they came back.
Mu Ziqi found no one at home, but when she tried to call Chen Zhiqiu's phone, she heard the phone ringing from upstairs. They quickly ran upstairs.
Mu Ziqi knocked on the door, but there was no answer; only the ringing of her cell phone came through. She told Gu Suian to wait at the door, and then pushed open the door to the master bedroom. There she found Shen Zhiqi lying on the bed, her face flushed, her hair sticking to her forehead because it was wet.
Mu Ziqi hurriedly went to the bedside and reached out to touch Shen Zhiqiu's forehead, only to find that she was burning up and had fallen into a coma due to the high fever.
Mu Ziqi quickly pulled the blanket down from her chest and tried to help Shen Zhiqi up, but she wasn't strong enough. Shen Zhiqi was limp and had no strength at all, so she couldn't sit up.
Mu Ziqi shouted in a trembling voice, telling Gu Suian at the door to call 120.
When Shen Zhi Qiu woke up in her hospital bed, she had a splitting headache and had no idea how she ended up in the hospital.
She moved her arm slightly, only to find that her hand seemed to be being held. She struggled to sit up a little to see who it was, but the slightest movement startled the person awake.
Mu Ziqi, who was dozing off by the bedside, suddenly sat up and looked at Shen Zhiqiu with surprise and delight. "Zhiqiu, you're awake." After saying that, she quickly got up to call the doctor. But perhaps because she had been in one position for too long, her legs were a little numb, and she was a little unsteady when she moved suddenly.
"Mom, be careful," Shen Zhi Qiu quickly reminded her, but her voice was completely hoarse, which startled even herself.
After pressing the call button, Mu Ziqi slowly sat back down, dragging her numb and aching legs.
"Mom, why are you back? Didn't you go on vacation with Dad?" Shen Zhi Qiu asked, her head still spinning.
“Your dad and I couldn’t get in touch with you. We looked for Qingyan, only to find out he was away on a business trip. You were home alone and we couldn’t reach you by phone. How could you possibly be in the mood to stay out here?” Mu Ziqi took out a wet wipe and wiped away the fine beads of sweat on Shen Zhiqiu’s cheeks. Shen Zhiqiu was a little embarrassed and flinched, “Mom, I can do it myself.”
Mu Ziqi looked at her with heartache, her eyes reddening. She insisted on doing it herself, saying, "You, why didn't you see a doctor when you were sick? If your father and I hadn't rushed back, your condition would have been very dangerous!"
"Mom, I just have a cold and a fever, it's nothing serious. Besides, I took some cold medicine before I went to sleep, thinking that after taking the medicine and sleeping for a while, I would sweat it out and feel better, that's how it always is." Shen Zhi Qiu smiled weakly, trying to comfort Mu Zi Qi.
"It's not as simple as a cold!" Mu Ziqi clutched her chest in fear. "When we got home, you were delirious with fever. We took you to the hospital, and the doctor found out that you had the flu. The virus had invaded your body and caused myocarditis. How serious! If Dad and I hadn't come back, who knows what would have happened! If the doctor had come any later, your life might have been in danger."
Shen Zhi Qiu stared wide-eyed in surprise; she really hadn't expected it to be this serious.
She used to get sick a lot during seasonal changes, and her dad always thought it was because the nanny wasn't taking good care of her, which is why he persuaded her mom to come home and take care of her. She always recovered quickly after taking medicine and getting some sleep.
Later, after her mother "passed away," the same thing happened when she got sick again. She remembers one time she was very ill, and she called Shen Yanshan to ask him to bring her medicine home when he came, because when she went to take it, she realized that the family's spare medicine was inexplicably gone. However, her father, citing work, didn't come home all night. When she woke up the next day, although she still had backaches and felt very weak, she felt better overall, so she never considered a cold or fever a big deal.
Hearing Mu Ziqi talk about it now, and realizing how serious it was, she found it unbelievable.
