"What photos?" Shen Meiyan was currently lounging on the sofa at home watching a TV series, and her tone was still a bit lazy when she received the call.
"Take a look at the WeChat message I sent you, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!" A smug laugh came from the other end.
"What photos? Song Shiyao, didn't you go to the capital? Why are you being so secretive...?"
Shen Meiyan's words stopped abruptly the moment she saw the photo. She sat up abruptly, zoomed in on the photo, and examined it closely.
Who else could the woman before me be but Shen Zhi Qiu?!
It's been a while since I last saw you, and your belly has gotten so big.
Seeing the two holding hands tightly, Shen Meiyan happily got up and shouted into the phone, "Shiyao, follow them and see where they live? I'll be there soon, haha."
After hanging up the phone, Shen Meiyan ran upstairs to the study, calling out, "Dad, come quick!"
Seeing that Shen Yanshan wasn't in the hallway, Shen Meiyan pushed open the study door and shouted excitedly, "Dad, come and see this!"
"Meiyan, I've told you so many times! A young lady of high birth shouldn't be so boisterous. Your manners and behavior must be elegant and dignified!" Shen Yanshan was practicing calligraphy in his study. He slowly raised his head and lectured her with a serious expression. Looking down at his calligraphy, he changed his tone and waved to Shen Meiyan with some joy, "Come and see what Dad wrote today. Isn't it vigorous and full of artistry?"
"Forget about all that nonsense, Dad, take a look at this!" Shen Meiyan rushed to Shen Yanshan and held up her phone in front of him.
Shen Yanshan looked at Shen Zhi Qiu's clear face in the photo, his expression changed, and the brush in his hand instantly fell onto the calligraphy he had just written, spreading out in a large area.
"Where did this come from?!" Shen Yanshan snatched the phone, adjusted his glasses, and examined it carefully.
"My friend ran into me while traveling, so she took a picture of me!" Shen Meiyan leaned closer, a calculating glint in her eyes, and said smugly, "Dad, if we send the picture to Gu Qingyan, won't Shen Zhi Qiu be kicked out of the house right away?!"
"Nonsense!" Shen Yanshan slammed his phone on the table, frowned, and shouted sternly, "The Gu family absolutely cannot find out about this! Otherwise, they will definitely blame me for not disciplining my daughter properly!"
"It's alright, Dad. If Shen Zhi Qiu gets kicked out, I can just marry into the family, right?! It won't make a difference!"
Shen Meiyan had a bright smile on her face, looking forward to her happy life after marrying into the Gu family.
"Foolish! If the Gu family finds out that Zhi Qiu has cheated on you, do you think you'll still have a chance to marry into the family?" Shen Yanshan scolded loudly, his face full of anger.
Enraged, Shen Yanshan picked up his phone and dialed Shen Zhiqiu's number, but the reply was, "Sorry, the number you dialed is not in service. Please check and dial again."
Shen Yanshan looked incredulous. He hung up the phone and dialed again, but the result was the same.
"Give me your phone, I'll try using yours!" Shen Yanshan took Shen Meiyan's phone without saying a word, found Shen Zhiqi's number and dialed it, only to hear a cold female voice.
"That unfilial daughter! She changed her phone number without telling me! I'm going to teach her a lesson!"
Shen Yanshan angrily opened WeChat, preparing to send Shen Zhi Qiu a scolding message, but deleted it at the last minute and changed it to a greeting.
Thankfully, the message was sent successfully; it wasn't a red exclamation mark.
The capital city.
Shen Zhi Qiu and Lu Jia had just arrived at their doorstep and hadn't even gotten out of the car when they heard their phones ring. Shen Zhi Qiu took out her phone, glanced at it, and said, "It's my dad." Then, to avoid any misunderstanding from Lu Jia, she added, "It's Shen Yan Shan."
"What does he want with you?" Lu Jia stopped the car and asked Shen Zhi Qiu with some curiosity.
"Zhiqiu, how have you been lately? You should be due soon, right? Dad will bring some baby supplies to visit you at the Gu family's house in the next couple of days."
Shen Zhi Qiu frowned unconsciously as she looked at the message; this was clearly not Shen Yan Shan's style.
Lu Jia leaned closer and gently stroked Chen Zhi Qiu's brow, saying with a smile, "If you keep frowning, you'll end up with wrinkles."
Shen Zhi Qiu quickly relaxed her brow, but still asked with a puzzled look, "What do you think he wanted to see me about? And so suddenly. Could it be that he found out about my divorce?"
Shen Zhi Qiu immediately dismissed the idea, muttering, "That's impossible. If he knew I was divorced, he would definitely be furious and call me to yell at me. How could he be so calm and send me messages to show his concern?"
"Didn't you change your phone number? Did you tell him after you changed it?" Lu Jia asked at the opportune moment.
Shen Zhi Qiu smiled awkwardly, "No, I don't want to talk to him."
Shen Zhi Qiu thought for a moment, not wanting to cause any more trouble at this critical juncture, so she replied, "Dad, I'm not home. I've been resting and preparing for childbirth recently. My due date is approaching, and the doctor told me to rest more. Please come visit after the baby is born."
"Well done! You dared to keep it a secret! Very good, very good! How could I have such a daughter!" Shen Yanshan gripped his phone, his face contorted with rage.
At this moment, Song Shiyao was sitting in a taxi, taking several more photos with her phone and sending them to Shen Meiyan, along with her location.
"Looks like your sister is doing really well! Look at this location, this villa, wow, it looks even more impressive than the Gu family's. She's so lucky!"
Shen Meiyan stared at the message on her phone, her heart burning with jealousy!
"What are you looking at?" Shen Yanshan saw that his daughter hadn't said a word after he had been talking for so long, and was just staring blankly at his phone screen. He suppressed his anger and leaned over to take a look.
"Why did Zhi Qiu run off to the capital? So far away? Who is the man with her? This villa certainly looks very valuable!" Shen Yanshan muttered to himself, starting to calculate in his mind.
Shen Meiyan knew Shen Yanshan best. Seeing his expression, she immediately understood what he was planning and pulled him back to reality with a single sentence, "Dad! The most urgent thing now is to go to the capital to find Shen Zhi Qiu and find out the truth of the matter face to face! Like you said, if the Gu family finds out about Shen Zhi Qiu's affair before us, wouldn't I be unable to marry into the Gu family?" Shen Meiyan's mind was filled with Shen Yanshan's concerns.
"This is not the time to think about this!" Shen Yanshan scolded, struggling with whether or not to make a trip to the capital, which was thousands of miles away.
“Dad, if Gu Qingyan finds out, I think he’ll immediately take back those sure-fire profitable projects you got from the Gu Group, right?!” Seeing that he was still hesitating, Shen Meiyan immediately seized on Shen Yanshan’s sore spot.
"Book the plane tickets!" Shen Yanshan said immediately.
