"What happened to Wanqing again?" Gu Qingyan asked irritably as he quickly went outside to answer the phone.
"It wasn't Miss Xiao, it was your villa in the western suburbs that inexplicably caught fire last night. Aunt Huang, who took care of Miss Xiao, couldn't escape and was burned to death. Chairman Gu already knows everything and is furious at home. Miss Xiao only suffered minor injuries..."
"What? The Gu family villa caught fire?"
Gu Qingyan gripped his phone tightly. For some reason, he had a gut feeling that this was not an accident.
"I'm going back now." Gu Qingyan hung up the phone, turned around and said a brief goodbye to Dean Cheng before hurrying downstairs.
Dean Cheng looked meaningfully at the cardboard box on the ground, then took out his phone and called Lu Jia to tell him what had happened.
After instructing Dean Cheng on a few things, Lu Jia hung up the phone. He turned on his computer and, seeing the small red dot speeding along the mountain path, getting further and further away from the sanatorium, he felt much more at ease.
He walked to the window, looked down and saw Shen Zhi Qiu writing at the long table in the garden, then headed towards the kitchen.
A little while later, he placed the brewed flower teapot on a wooden tray, then added a few matching small teacups, before slowly carrying it towards the garden.
"Have something hot to drink when you wake up in the morning." Lu Jia said, placing a light fruit and flower tea next to Shen Zhi Qiu's computer before sitting down opposite her.
Shen Zhi Qiu smiled at him, then picked up her teacup, blew on it, and took a sip. "You're getting better and better at pairing things up," Shen Zhi Qiu said, giving him a thumbs up, but her eyes were fixed intently on the computer screen.
"I'm glad you like it." Lu Jia smiled and said somewhat easily, "Gu Qingyan has already left and should be returning to Rongcheng soon."
Shen Zhi Qiu raised an eyebrow in surprise, looking puzzled. Given Gu Qing Yan's personality, he wouldn't leave without thoroughly searching the place.
"The dean said that something happened to the Gu family. He vaguely heard Gu Qingyan say that the Gu family villa was on fire, and then he left in a hurry," Lu Jia explained.
"The Gu family villa?!" Shen Zhi Qiu looked up. "Could something have happened to Grandpa?" She immediately became a little nervous.
"If you're worried, you can ask Si Mingyu," Lu Jia suggested, seeing her concerned expression. Although he didn't like Si Mingyu, he was indeed the person who could find out the truth the fastest at this moment.
After pondering for a moment, Shen Zhi Qiu sent a message to Si Ming Yu.
"Mingyu, I heard the Gu family villa caught fire. Is Grandpa alright?"
Si Mingyu was somewhat surprised when he saw Shen Zhi Qiu's WeChat message. He didn't expect her to contact him, but after thinking about it, he understood what was going on.
“Grandpa is alright. It wasn’t the Gu family’s old villa that caught fire, but Qingyan’s villa in the western suburbs. The nanny died on the spot, and Xiao Wanqing and Fu Jingran suffered minor injuries. It’s still unclear whether it was an accident, but I suspect that Xiao Wanqing deliberately set the fire.” Si Mingyu directly stated his suspicions.
Shen Zhi Qiu was a little stunned. She didn't know what Xiao Wan Qing had done recently, so she instinctively felt that Si Ming Yu was overthinking things.
Just then, Si Mingyu's voice message popped up.
Shen Zhi Qiu answered the call, looked at Lu Jia beside her, and immediately pressed the speakerphone button.
"Hey, Mingyu."
"Zhi Qiu." Si Mingyu's voice was as gentle and polite as ever.
"What happened?"
Si Mingyu briefly recounted all the recent events.
Lu Jia's face grew darker and darker, and her brows furrowed more and more tightly.
Shen Zhi Qiu was stunned. She only thought Xiao Wan Qing was a bit of a green tea bitch and willful, but she never expected her to be a ruthless madwoman.
"It's good that you're not in the South City," Si Mingyu said softly.
"Yes, but Gu Qingyan has already found a sanatorium. So, I've moved out of there first." Shen Zhi Qiu still informed Si Mingyu of the recent situation.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you needed me." Si Mingyu remained silent for a long time, his mood clearly dropping after learning about how she had been bullied by President Zhao.
"It's alright, thank you, Brother Mingyu." Shen Zhi Qiu said calmly; she was no longer the little girl who needed his protection.
"Zhi Qiu, if you ever need me, just let me know, and I'll do everything I can to help you. Whether it's money or..." Si Mingyu said somewhat urgently.
“Mingyu, no need. Although we’re completely open and honest, and you and Qingyan are good friends, and your families are on good terms with each other, I’m afraid people will gossip.”
Si Mingyu gave a wry smile. "Zhi Qiu, what if I said I wasn't so honest?"
Shen Zhi Qiu pursed her lips, still unsure how to respond.
Lu Jia reached for the phone and said with some displeasure, "Mr. Si, Zhi Qiu is already having a hard time hiding and running around while pregnant. Can you please stop bothering her with these words? After all, you can't do anything about it, and your words are the least meaningful. I hope you won't cause her any more trouble."
“I just want to do my part. Zhi Qiu hasn’t worked since she married Qing Yan, and I’m worried that raising a child will be stressful for her…” Si Mingyu paused for a moment before expressing his concerns.
“Mr. Si, putting aside the fact that I can provide Zhi Qiu with a good life, although Zhi Qiu doesn’t go out to work, but…” Lu Jia glanced at Shen Zhi Qiu and said calmly, “Mr. Si can search online for the well-known online writer ‘Shan Shan’.”
"What do you mean? Is it 'Shanshan' who wrote the suspense novel 'The Mystery of the Hotel Garden'?" Si Mingyu murmured, then suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "You mean Zhi Qiu is 'Shanshan'? How could that be?"
