Chapter 2 Marriage

Chapter 2 Marriage

Looking at Lu Yu's leaving back, the moment the door closed, Lin Che's heart finally relaxed a little.

The scene three days ago seems still vivid in my mind.

Like a poisoned ice cone, it fiercely pierced into Lin Che's mind, bringing sharp pain and a cold, suffocating feeling.

"Marrying into the Lu family is the most advantageous option for the group right now. Lu Yu is the only heir to the Lu family, and his ability and status are impeccable. If you marry him, the cooperation between the Lin and Lu families will be more stable, and the group will fully cover all subsequent medical expenses for your mother."

Lin Zhenbang sat behind a large mahogany desk, his well-maintained face expressionless, but every word he uttered was like a scalpel, precisely cutting through Lin Che's last bit of dignity.

Lin Che heard her own dry voice, filled with an incredible sense of absurdity, "I don't need the Lu family's money! I can support my mother myself..."

"you can?"

Lin Zhenbang interrupted him coldly and pushed a thick list of medical expenses in front of him. The numbers on it were so huge that it made him dizzy.

"Only with your meager doctor's salary? Or are you counting on your useless uncle? Lin Che, be realistic. Signing this prenuptial agreement is the best choice for you and your mother. We will talk to Lu Yu ourselves."

"He agreed?" Lin Che's voice was so low that it was almost inaudible, carrying with it a last glimmer of hope.

"The Lu family needs the commercial benefits this marriage will bring. Lu Yu is a businessman and he knows how to make trade-offs."

Lin Zhenbang's tone left no room for doubt. He pushed a drafted agreement in front of him and said, "Sign it. I'll arrange a formal meeting for you next week."

Lin Che didn't know how he finally left the Lin family. Every stroke of his name, which he had written countless times, was now extremely stiff. A crooked frame was written in the lower right corner, with two cold words "agree" attached.

He had imagined interacting with Lu Yu countless times, but he never expected that it would end in such a humble manner, almost crushing his last bit of dignity.

I have worked hard for many, many years just to get close to Lu Yu in an upright manner.

Looking at the glowing computer screen, the medical records on the desktop were actually untouched. The fact that Lu Yu was sitting less than a meter away from him just now made him completely panic.

"Mr. Lu, let me hold him." Assistant Cheng Yi saw Lu Yu carrying Lu Yu'an coming out of the clinic and hurried forward to take him and said.

"Let's go to the laboratory on the second floor." Lu Yu walked towards the elevator with the test report in one hand and Lu Yu'an in the other.

"Look, this flower is so beautiful~"

"Ahhh I really like this~ I wonder if there's anyone who can give it to me!!"

When I passed by the nurses' station, I heard two nurses whispering around a bunch of roses.

Lu Yu's gaze lingered on the bouquet of roses, recalling the conversation Lin Che had just had with the nurse in the clinic. He frowned unconsciously, and with a sharp gaze, he once again scanned the bouquet of roses before striding towards the laboratory.

The door of the clinic was ajar, and Lu Yu pushed it open and walked in.

Lin Che was looking down at a medical record. When he heard the noise, he looked up.

When he saw that it was Lu Yu coming back with the child in his arms, the fingers holding the pen tightened almost imperceptibly, and then quickly loosened.

His face still had that impeccable calm expression that belonged to Dr. Lin.

"Give me the results." He held out his hand.

Lu Yu handed over the report. This time, his fingers did not cross the line, but just placed the paper steadily on Lin Che's desk.

Lin Che picked up the report and scanned each piece of data quickly and professionally. He was reading intently, his slender fingers occasionally running across the paper, as if confirming a certain value.

"Viral infection, influenza ruled out."

He put down the report and said in a steady voice, "Looking at the blood test, it seems like recurring fever caused by a viral cold. Continue taking the fever-reducing medicine, monitor your temperature, drink plenty of water, and get enough rest."

He spoke as he typed quickly on the computer.

"Is there any effective medicine?" Lu Yu asked, looking at him seriously.

"There's no specific antiviral drug. We need to treat the symptoms and rely on the child's own immunity to recover." Lin Che answered clearly and concisely, without any hesitation.

He tore off the prescription and medical record page and handed them to Lu Yu. "Take the antipyretic medicine according to this dosage. If your temperature keeps rising after three days, or if you develop the critical symptoms I just mentioned, come back for a follow-up visit."

His gaze finally and inevitably fell on Lu Yu's face briefly, but only for a moment before it dropped to the medical record book, as if he was just confirming whether the medical instructions were written completely.

"I understand." Lu Yu took the paper and pinched the thin paper with his fingertips with some force.

The clinic fell into silence again, with only Lu Yuan's slight groaning sound due to discomfort.

Lu Yu held the child in his arms but did not leave immediately. His tall figure towered over the examination table, creating a silent oppression.

Lin Che could clearly feel that gaze falling on him, as if it were real, with inquiry and a complex emotion that he tried hard to ignore but couldn't.

Just when Lin Che was about to speak again to urge him, Lu Yu's deep voice rang out, with a strange penetrating power, piercing straight into him:

"Lin Che."

Not "Dr. Lin".

It’s “Lin Che”.

Lin Che's fingers holding the pen trembled violently, and the tip of the pen drew a sharp, deep mark on the medical record.

He raised his head suddenly, and the eyes above the mask could no longer remain calm. A clear trace of shock and...embarrassed anger flashed across the depths of his pupils.

He forced himself to look directly into Lu Yu's eyes, which were so deep that they seemed to swallow everything. His Adam's apple rolled up and down, and his voice sounded a little dry due to tension:

"Mr. Lu, this is the hospital. The next patient is waiting outside. If there are no other questions, please take care of your child and follow the doctor's instructions."

He enunciated each word clearly, with an unmistakable sense of expulsion, trying to rebuild that cold, professional wall.

Lu Yu looked at him deeply, his eyes were complicated and difficult to understand, containing too many things that Lin Che was unwilling and unable to interpret at the moment.

In the end, Lu Yu said nothing more, but just hugged Lu Yu'an's arm tightly, turned around, and strode out of the clinic.
