Chapter 25 "Lin Che is my legal spouse. Are you satisfied with this answer?"
2:45 p.m., Medical Affairs Office, The First Affiliated Hospital of East China Medical University.
The Qin family's legal team arrived early and were conversing in low voices. Lead lawyer Zhang Sheng checked his watch for the third time, his fingertips tapping impatiently on the table.
"What's going on with Lin Che? It's almost time and they haven't—"
The door to the conference room was suddenly pushed open, and the person who walked in was not Lin Che or his representative as expected, but Zhou Yan, the chief legal officer of the Lu Group, and three senior lawyers.
"Lawyer Zhou?" Zhang Sheng, the Qin family's chief lawyer, was visibly stunned. He quickly lowered his head to check the documents. "Sorry, did we go to the wrong meeting room? Today's negotiation partner should be Mr. Lin Che's attorney..."
Zhou Yan smiled faintly and placed his briefcase on the table. "That's right, Lawyer Zhang. The Lu Group is the sole agent for all legal matters concerning Mr. Lin Che."
Zhang Sheng's expression changed, and he exchanged a quick glance with his assistant. A flurry of discussion erupted in the conference room. The Qin family's legal team had clearly not anticipated that this seemingly ordinary medical dispute would alarm the business giant, the Lu Group.
"Excuse me," Zhang Sheng adjusted his tie, "what is the relationship between Lu and Mr. Lin?"
Zhou Yan pulled a notarized document from a folder. "This is a special authorization letter signed by Mr. Lin Che. As for other questions..." He glanced at his watch. "President Lu will explain it personally."
At three o'clock sharp, the door of the conference room opened again.
Lu Yu walked in with long, slender legs. His black Brioni custom suit outlined the perfect proportions of broad shoulders and narrow waist. The top two buttons of his white shirt were casually unbuttoned, revealing a cool white collarbone. His right hand was in his trouser pocket, his left hand hanging naturally. The Patek Philippe on his wrist shone with a low-key metallic luster under the light.
"Mr. Lu...Mr. Lu?" Zhang Sheng's voice was stuck in his throat.
"This...Mr. Lu?"
"Mr. Lu from the Lu Group?"
"Who? Lu Yu?"
There were gasps in the conference room, and everyone subconsciously held their breath.
Lu Yu's footsteps didn't pause, his polished Oxford shoes making a steady sound on the marble floor. He walked straight to the main seat, and Cheng Yi immediately pulled out a chair for him. Only after he sat down did Lu Yu raise his eyelids, his gaze scanning the crowd standing across from him like a scanner.
"Sit." Just one simple word caused the room temperature to drop sharply.
Zhang Sheng's Adam's apple rolled, and he sat back in his chair stiffly. Now he deeply regretted taking on Qin Yize's case. In City A, you can offend anyone but not the Lu family. This simple truth was encountered by him today.
"Let's start." Lu Yu tapped his fingertips lightly on the table, his tone was calm and nonchalant.
Zhang Sheng's cold sweat flowed down his back in the air-conditioned room, and the accusation materials in his hand burned his hands like a pile of boiling iron.
"We still... have to wait for the client from our side." Originally, only Zhang Sheng and his team came here to negotiate today. Before coming, he had prepared to quickly resolve the problem within ten minutes.
One is a lowly resident doctor with no background, and the other is the son of the all-powerful Qin Pharmaceutical Group.
The chances of winning can be said to be 99 percent.
But now, there is another 1% possibility, and Zhang Sheng encountered it.
Even a person who can cover the sky with one hand cannot escape death.
"Call Dean Qin. Hurry up!" Zhang Sheng lowered his head and whispered to his secretary, sweat dripping down his forehead. He felt very nervous. If he was not careful, his career would be over today.
Zhang Sheng's phone was slammed onto the conference table, and Qin Ru's furious roar came from the speaker.
"You idiot! You can't even solve such a small problem?!"
Qin Ru's voice exploded in the silent conference room, sharp and piercing.
"Last time Yi Ze sexually harassed Lin Che in the duty room, wasn't it you who dealt with it? How come now you can't even handle a little Lin Che?!"
--"sexual harassment".
This word was like a sharp ice pick, piercing Lu Yu's eardrum.
The air in the conference room suddenly froze.
Lu Yu didn't look up. His bony fingers rested lightly on the edge of the table, their tips turning cold and white from the pressure. His expression remained calm, and there was even a faint curve at the corner of his lips, as if he was just listening to an insignificant chat.
On the other end of the phone, Qin Ru was still roaring: "I don't care who's on the other side! Just like how I suppressed you last time, I'll do it this time—"
"Snap."
Lu Yu raised his hand and tapped the pen lightly on the table.
A very light sound made the entire conference room silent in an instant.
Zhang Sheng's face turned pale and he hung up the phone in a panic.
Lu Yu slowly raised his eyes.
His eyes were very still, as still as the night sky before a snowstorm, dark, cold, and without a trace of warmth.
"Dean Qin seems to be quite experienced in handling this matter?"
His voice was still low and elegant, even with a hint of nonchalant smile.
But Cheng Yi saw that Lu Yu's left hand slowly tightened under the table, and his slender fingers pinched into his palm, leaving deep red marks.
"Cheng Yi, I want to see Qin Ru here in five minutes."
Lu Yu's low voice echoed word by word in the silent office.
"Okay, Mr. Lu." Cheng Yi nodded slightly, turned around and strode out of the office.
The office continued to fall into a dead silence.
Lu Yu's long legs were crossed, one hand was flipping through the documents in his hand, and the other hand was rhythmically tapping on the solid wood table.
The only sound in the conference room was the tapping of Lu Yu's knuckles on the tabletop—tap, tap, tap—
Every sound seemed to knock on the heart of the Qin family's legal team.
He stopped flipping through the pages and glanced at the time on his phone.
There was still about an hour until Lin Che woke up.
Four minutes and thirty seconds later.
The door to the conference room was flung open.
Qin Ru rushed in breathlessly, followed by two panicked assistants. His suit was disheveled, and beads of sweat hung on his forehead, clearly from running all the way here.
"Mr. Lu..." Qin Ru forced a smile, but his voice was trembling. "You looking for me?"
Lu Yu finally raised his eyes.
His eyes fell on Qin Ru, as if he was looking at a dead object.
"Dean Qin." He spoke slowly, his voice low and elegant, but it made Qin Ru freeze in his tracks. "I heard that you have a lot of experience in dealing with Dr. Lin's affairs?"
Qin Ru's face turned pale.
"This, this is all a misunderstanding..." He laughed dryly, the veins on his forehead throbbing. "Yize is a naive kid. We have already settled the matter privately..."
"Reconciliation?" Lu Yu chuckled, but his eyes were cold. He slowly stood up, his slender figure casting a shadow under the light, covering Qin Ru.
"How did you reconcile? Tell me about it."
Qin Ru and Zhang Sheng looked at each other. The other party obviously couldn't withstand the pressure and lowered his head.
"No...I don't know...What is your relationship with Dr. Lin?"
"Since Dean Qin is so curious..." The black suit outlined a sharp silhouette under the light. Lu Yu stopped one step away from Qin Ru, leaned forward slightly, and said in a voice so soft that only the two of them could hear, "Lin Che is my legal spouse. Are you satisfied with this answer?"
The air in the conference room seemed to be sucked out in an instant.
Qin Ru's back was soaked, his suit stuck to his skin. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
Qin Ru's legs softened, and he fell directly into the chair. His pupils constricted violently, and his lips trembled. "No... Impossible... Lin Che clearly..."
"Mingming what?" Lu Yu stood up straight, his eyes sharp as a knife, "Mingming is just an ordinary doctor with no one to rely on?"
He suddenly sneered, "It seems that Dean Qin is not only a poor parent, but also inadequate in intelligence work."
Qin Ru's face was ashen, with beads of sweat rolling down his cheeks.
He suddenly slumped to his knees and said, "Mr. Lu! It's all because of my son's ignorance! We'll pay you whatever you want! Please, have mercy..."
Lu Yu looked down at him, his eyes as cold as if he were looking at an ant: "Money?"
He chuckled. "What's the market value of Qin's Pharmaceuticals? Three billion? Five billion?"
Qin Ru suddenly looked up, his eyes full of fear.
Lu Yu turned and walked towards the window. The sunlight filtering through the glass cast a shadow on his chiseled profile. "Cheng Yi, notify the Securities Department. I want to see the short-selling plan for the Qin Corporation before the market opens tomorrow."
"Yes, Mr. Lu."
Qin Ru collapsed to the ground like a puddle of mud. He knew that if the Lu Group took action, the Qin family's three-generation foundation would be wiped out overnight.
Lu Yu glanced at his watch. Lin Che still had thirty minutes until she woke up. He adjusted his cuffs and headed for the door without looking back. "By the way, Qin Yize..." He paused. "Intentional injury, the minimum sentence is three years. I hope Dean Qin... takes care of himself."
