Chapter 68 "Go back to your room to continue teaching at night."
As the morning light streamed into the bedroom through the gauze curtains, Lin Che drowsily turned over and reached out to touch the side—the other side of the bed was empty, with only a trace of residual body heat remaining.
He rubbed his eyes and sat up, the ring on his ring finger gleaming in the sunlight.
There was a cup of warm water on the bedside table, with a note at the bottom: "In meeting, breakfast in the microwave."
Lin Che held the cup of water in his hand and was stunned for a while, listening to the faint sound of the video conference coming from the study.
He walked barefoot on the soft carpet, his slender ankles exposed under his pajamas, and slowly moved to the door of the study.
Lu Yu's deep voice leaked out from the crack in the door: "Q3 data needs to be re-evaluated—"
Lin Che quietly pushed open a crack and stuck half of his head out.
During the video conference, Lu Yu was wearing a home shirt with two buttons of his collar casually open. His originally stern brows softened slightly when he noticed the movement outside the door.
"Regarding the merger and acquisition," Lu Yu's fingertips tapped twice on the keyboard, but his eyes drifted to the furry-haired man at the door, "Let's proceed according to the original plan."
Lin Che was about to retreat when he suddenly met Lu Yu's gaze. The man raised an eyebrow at him and silently mouthed, "Come in."
"......" Lin Che felt a heat in his ears and shook his head hurriedly, then closed the door quietly like a thief.
"That's all for today's meeting." Lu Yu closed his notebook and glanced at the khaki dog slippers on his feet as he stood up, a smile flashing across his eyes.
When he pushed open the door, he saw Lin Che sitting cross-legged on the carpet in the living room, eating a bowl of oatmeal porridge until his cheeks were puffed up.
Hearing footsteps, he turned around and looked up, revealing a smile with curved eyebrows. "Is the meeting over?"
The sun shone on the ends of his curled hair, and his ring made a crisp sound on the edge of the bowl. Lu Yu walked over, leaned over and licked the milk stains off his lips: "Well, now it's time to start cooking."
Before Lin Che could react, she was picked up along with the bowl.
"Hey... Stop! Stop!!" Lin Che put his hands on Lu Yu's chest, his eyes sparkling. "Wait! The phone is ringing!"
Lu Yu reluctantly let go of his hand and glanced at the caller ID - Zhou Xubai. He pressed the answer button and turned on the speakerphone.
"Old Lu," Zhou Xubai's cheerful voice came from the other end of the line, "The ski resort I just invested in is having a soft opening this weekend. Would you like to bring your loved one over for a couple of days?"
When Lin Che heard the word "ski resort," his eyes lit up instantly, like a kitten hearing a can of can being opened. He tugged at Lu Yu's clothes and mouthed, "Let's go."
Lu Yu pinched the tip of his nose and asked on the phone: "What are the specific arrangements?"
"I'll send a car to pick you up Saturday morning. You'll stay overnight and be back on Sunday." Zhou Xubai said with a smile, "I'll make sure to reserve the best suite for you."
After hanging up the phone, Lu Yu played with Lin Che's fingers: "Can you really rest this weekend?"
"Yeah!" Lin Che nodded rapidly. "I just changed my shift last week, so it just so happens I have two days off."
He suddenly thought of something and winked slyly, "But Mr. Lu is so busy, can you spare some time to go out and play with me?"
Lu Yu leaned over and bit his earlobe: "I have to put off even the most important things to accompany my wife skiing."
"Who is your wife?" Lin Che pushed him away with a red face, but couldn't help but smile.
He ran barefoot to the wardrobe, "I need to see what clothes to bring. I heard it's very cold over there..."
Lu Yu leaned against the doorframe, watching Lin Che rummaging through boxes and cabinets like a busy little squirrel. The sunlight shone through the window onto him, making the ring sparkle.
———
The sunlight in the ski resort makes the white snow crystal clear.
Lu Yu was wearing a dark blue winter coat. The slim-fitting design outlined his tall figure, and the shoulder line was embroidered with the same silver snowflake pattern as Lin Che's.
He stood in the snow, his black ski goggles pushed up on his forehead, revealing his deep eyes.
The stand-up collar of his winter coat made his jawline more distinct, and the white breath he exhaled condensed in the cold air.
The tightened cuffs make the wrists look particularly strong, and the hands wearing black gloves are flexibly adjusting the bindings of the skis.
"Have you seen enough?" Lu Yu suddenly looked up and accurately caught Lin Che peeking.
A smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. His dark blue winter clothes were particularly eye-catching against the snowy background, making him look as tall and cold as a cedar.
Lin Che blushed and looked away, but she heard the rustling sound of skis pressing over the snow.
Lu Yu had already slid in front of him, and flicked his goggles lightly with his slender fingers: "Focus on the road, little idiot."
The sunlight passed through the clouds, casting tiny spots of light on Lu Yu's winter clothes.
When he turned around, the silver snowflake pattern on his back was faintly visible, perfectly echoing the pattern on Lin Che's clothes.
As he bent down to help Lin Che check her equipment, the lines of his shoulders and back were tense beneath the dark blue fabric, revealing a sense of power ready to strike.
"Follow me closely." Lu Yu put on his ski goggles again. The lenses reflected the snow, covering the tenderness in his eyes.
Standing behind Lin Che, holding his waist firmly with both hands, he spoke in a deep voice close to Lin Che's ear: "Bend your knees a little more and shift your center of gravity forward."
Lin Che gripped her ski poles nervously, her entire body tense as a string. "Will I fall?"
"I'll be there to cushion you if you fall." Lu Yu chuckled, his warm breath brushing over Lin Che's red, frozen ears.
He deliberately loosened one hand, frightening Lin Che so much that she immediately leaned back and fell into his arms.
"Lu Yu!" Lin Che turned around angrily, but met Lu Yu's smiling eyes.
The sunlight filtered through his ski goggles, casting tiny shadows on his deep features. The stand-up collar of his winter jacket rubbed against Lin Che's cheek, carrying a faint scent of cedar.
"Focus." Lu Yu pinched the back of his neck, as if soothing a furry cat. "Look ahead, I'll show you how to skate for a while."
His palm was warm and strong, holding Lin Che's elbow steadily and moving him slowly forward.
The two people's skis left parallel tracks on the snow, like a pair of tacitly understood tracks.
"Yes, that's it..." Lu Yu's voice was full of praise, "Relax your waist, don't be stiff."
Lin Che gradually found the feeling and turned her head excitedly: "I think I can--"
Before he could finish his words, his skis slipped and he fell backwards.
Lu Yu quickly caught him, but they both fell into the soft snow.
"Pfft..." Lin Che laughed and took off her ski goggles. Tiny snowflakes clung to her eyelashes.
He lay on Lu Yu and found that the collar of his winter coat was covered with snow, making his stern image look a little disheveled.
Lu Yu didn't get angry. He took off his gloves and covered Lin Che's red face with his warm palms. "What are you laughing at? Beginners always do this."
"Teacher Lu's teaching skills are not good enough." Lin Che deliberately curled her lips, but when Lu Yu raised an eyebrow, she became intimidated and quickly changed the subject, "Shall we do it again?"
Lu Yu's eyes darkened, and he suddenly turned over and pressed him down on the snow: "No hurry, collect some tuition first."
The cold snow and the scorching kiss fell at the same time, and Lin Che's exclamation was blocked between his lips and teeth.
The laughter of other tourists in the distance frightened him so much that he hurriedly pushed Lu Yu away: "Someone..."
Lu Yu licked the corner of his mouth with a look of unsatisfied feeling, pulled him up, and brushed the snow off his hair. "Go back to your room tonight and continue teaching."
The sun shone on the snow slope, and the two figures were one in front and one behind. The dark snowflake patterns on their winter clothes sparkled in the light.
Lin Che secretly watched Lu Yu's back as he skied. On others, the ski suit would be bulky, but with Lu Yu's amazing body proportions, the ski suit still made his shoulders look broad and his legs long, and every turn he made was done with ease and grace.
"What are you daydreaming about?" Lu Yu stopped not far away, turned around and stretched out his hand towards him, "Come here."
Lin Che took a deep breath, followed the posture Lu Yu taught him, and slid over carefully.
This time, he did not fall, but instead crashed steadily into Lu Yu's open arms.
"You passed." Lu Yu lowered his head and wiped the snow off his eyebrows with the tip of his nose. "I'll give you a hot spring egg as a reward."
"Just passed?" Lin Che grumbled unconvincedly, but obediently let Lu Yu lead the way to the rest stop.
The two people's skis left long traces on the snow, like a lingering line.
——
Hot steam from hot springs rose from the wooden terrace of the ski resort's rest stop, and Zhou Xubai waved at them from afar.
He was wearing a bright orange winter coat, which made him stand out in the snow. He also had his work ID card hanging around his neck, looking like a host.
"Finally you're here!" Zhou Xubai came over, patted Lu Yu's shoulder, and winked at Lin Che. "How's it going? My ski resort is pretty good, isn't it?"
He was surrounded by a group of familiar faces. Zhou Jiming was clinking glasses with Shen Zhiyun over mulled wine, while Gu Wangyi was lazily leaning on the railing playing with a lighter.
"Hey, isn't this Mr. Lu?" Zhou Jiming pushed his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes flashing mischievously behind the lenses. "It's rare to see you put down your work and come out to play."
Lu Yu raised his eyebrows: "It's not as leisurely and carefree as President Zhou."
Gu Wangyi stood aside, smiling but saying nothing. He was wearing a dark grey winter suit, which made him look calm and reserved. He looked at Lin Che with a hint of curiosity.
Lin Che's footsteps suddenly stopped.
At the edge of the crowd, Zhou Xuran was adjusting his ski gloves. When he looked up, his amber eyes accurately caught Lin Che's gaze.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Lu." Zhou Xuran walked over first and extended his hand, his watch shining coldly in the snow.
Lu Yu shook hands with him calmly, his knuckles turning slightly white. "Doctor Zhou is also here skiing?"
"My brother dragged me here." Zhou Xuran smiled and turned to Lin Che, his eyes falling on the ring on his ring finger. "Congratulations."
Lin Che subconsciously took a half step back, his back pressed against Lu Yu's arm.
