Chapter 33 Children's Words Are Innocent

Chapter 33 Children's Words Are Innocent

The blond man was resting with his eyes closed in the car.

There's been no response from the other end of the headset yet.

Today is the first obedience test that Amuro has given to Conan.

Only if it works out will he truly consider helping others.

Otherwise, he would have taken coercive measures to hand that unruly little guy over to his colleagues in the public security department.

The test task was very simple; it was just to deliver a message, and there was no difficulty whatsoever.

If all goes well, it will be over in 1 minute; if any unexpected situation arises, it will take at most 5 minutes.

However, the final result was that Conan took nearly 3 hours.

If Amuro had foreseen this outcome, he would never have assigned this task to Conan.

But Holmes's apprentices always manage to bring him a series of delightful surprises.

"You've taken the wrong turn," Amuro reminded him, watching the small red dot moving in real time on the screen.

"Amuro chose a terrible spot for the rendezvous. I need to find another place," came the little detective's voice from the other end of the earpiece.

"Hey! We have a deal, right? You have to obey my orders!"

"You're going to listen to wrong orders? Mr. Amuro's ultimate goal is still to deliver the message, isn't it?" Conan argued. "As you said, there are indeed a lot of people there, but they're all elderly men and women. The target is a young woman; it would seem strange to blend in with them, wouldn't it? Since you're so concerned about not being noticed, couldn't you have put in a little more effort and chosen a better spot? Did you really do any on-site scouting?"

Amuro was speechless. How could a dignified intelligence expert be criticized for his poor intelligence one day?

"Forget it, I won't argue with a child!"

"As long as you can successfully complete the task, that's fine."

Amuro quietly lowered his expectations of Conan.

"Then let's do as you say! But remember, you must not break our agreement."

Two crisp "click" sounds came from the other end of the earphone.

This is their agreed-upon code word, meaning "received".

Just as Amuro was about to take a nap, he heard three rapid "putt-putt-putt" sounds in his earphones.

"The target has been identified"

Amuro perked up, anxiously awaiting what would follow.

However, things took an unexpected turn.

He didn't install a camera, only a listening device.

To better explain the situation on site, we temporarily switched the camera from the football commentator to Conan's side.

Conan from the Red Team has now moved to Zone C of the parking lot. There aren't many obstacles (cars), so the situation is great.

He nimbly traversed the midfield as if it were empty, heading straight for the opponent's goal.

Just then, one of the opposing players blocked his way.

But please note! Conan didn't dodge; instead, he dribbled the ball straight ahead!

Shoot!

Oh dear, what a pity! The ball flew away!

And Conan has also disappeared from the screen?

Wait a minute, Conan has appeared again!

He had rolled under the car and was now lying between the two tires.

"Little brother, are you alright?"

After the chaos of war, Amuro finally heard a voice that brought him peace of mind.

The girl with long black hair was very flustered when she saw the little boy lying on the ground; she was completely unprepared.

But then again, who would usually play football in a parking lot?

At this moment, Conan fully displayed his traditional mischievousness and started wailing at the top of his lungs: "Waaaaah... Sister, my ball!"

The black-haired girl breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this scene: "He still knows how to cry, which means he's not seriously injured."

She retrieved the ball that had flown far away and said, "Here, are you hurt?"

"It hurts! My arm hurts, and my leg hurts too," Conan said pitifully.

Amuro, on the other end of the earpiece, was furious: "Shinichi Kudo, are you addicted to playing the child? Do you even know you're 17?!"

Whether Conan knew or not is hard to say, but the girl who "hit" someone with her car really didn't know.

"It hurts a lot. Shall I take you to the hospital to get it checked out?"

"No, no, no! I don't want to go to the hospital, I don't want to get a shot!" Conan said, and started crying again.

"How about I go to my sister's house and get it bandaged up for you?"

“Okay—” Conan agreed sweetly and obediently.

Amuro was furious upon hearing this and sternly warned, "Don't push your luck, or you'll face the consequences!"

A crackling sound came from the other end of the earphone.

Amuro hadn't agreed on this code word with the other party, but the rhythm and speed of the knocking suggested that it was an expression of protest.

After careful reflection, Amuro realized that Conan's actions didn't actually violate the rules:

Never tell anyone who sent you.

—No contact of any kind with anyone other than the target is permitted during the mission.

—The headphones must not be removed without authorization during the mission.

"I shouldn't have stipulated what he couldn't do; instead, I should have limited what he could do!"

Amuro looked up to the sky and sighed, realizing he had been too naive.

Conan successfully entered the young lady's house.

"Little brother, what's your name?"

"Conan Edogawa".

"Eh? What a unique name! Conan-kun, applying the medicine might hurt a little, so please bear with it!"

"good--"

That slightly playful ending tone made Amuro particularly annoyed.

However, the die was cast, and he could only wait and see.

"What's your sister's name?"

"Hirota Masami. Conan-kun is such a good boy, the bandage is all bandaged up!"

"Sister Yamei, I'm hungry, I want to eat."

"Hey? How about I take you home for dinner?"

"I have no home." The little boy sounded extremely aggrieved.

Where are Mom and Dad?

"have no idea."

"Oh, poor child..." the girl sighed softly. "How about I make you something to eat? What would Conan-kun like to eat?"

"Hmm... I'll just have the bento box!"

What exactly is he trying to do?

At this point, Amuro was completely baffled, having no idea what the other party was up to.

Regarding the target, he only showed Conan one photo.

Her name, age, address, background, and so on were all left unmentioned.

"Sister Yami, there's a pervert spying on you across the street!" Conan suddenly shouted.

"Huh? Conan-kun, you've misunderstood, haven't you?"

"Absolutely not! I saw him the moment I walked in."

"Hey, if we draw the curtains like this, he won't be able to see us!"

"It seems the organization hasn't let its guard down."

Amuro listened carefully to the sounds coming from the other end of the earphone. Based on the sound of chopping vegetables in the kitchen getting louder and softer, he could tell that Conan had come out of the kitchen.

"He's looking around the room, trying to find something?"

More than half an hour passed, and Amuro estimated that Conan had already familiarized himself with the layout of the house.

"Conan-kun, time to eat!"

"Wow, this is a feast! Hey, Yami-neechan, aren't you going to eat?"

"I already had lunch outside!"

"Does Yamei live alone?"

"yes."

"Really? But I think there should be two people."

"Huh?"

Amuro's curiosity was piqued; he had never been to the girl's house before, and this was a good opportunity to find out what was going on.

"First of all, there is a pair of slippers in the shoe cabinet. They look like the same style as Yamei's, but the color is different. Judging from the condition and the amount of dust around them, these slippers are not new, but they haven't been worn for a while."

"Secondly, there's a cosmetic set in the inner room, exactly the same as the small bottles on the dressing table. I just checked, and that set isn't sold individually, but as a double set. If she only bought two for herself, she would have put the unopened box away instead of leaving it out there. Sister Yamei's house is very clean and tidy, so I think she deliberately left it there."

"Because it's for someone, a woman around the same age as Yami who occasionally comes to our house. Am I right?"

“Conan-kun, you…” Akemi was stunned for a moment before she came to her senses. “You’re amazing! You’re absolutely right. My sister sometimes comes over.”

"Sister? But I don't see anyone in the photos in the picture frame who looks like Yamei's sister's sister."

My sister doesn't like having her picture taken.

"Oh, is that so? But Yami-neechan is a great beauty, so my younger sister must be very pretty too, right? It would be such a shame not to have any memories of her!"

"Well, there's nothing good to remember..." the girl sighed softly.

For 18 years, they struggled to survive in the dark, relying on each other for survival.

There really isn't anything worth remembering.

"Thank you for the treat. This gift is for Sister Yami!" Conan said, having eaten and drunk his fill.

"I finally remembered I still have a mission!"

Amuro muttered to himself.

It was said to be a message, but it was actually a Japanese flag, or the Rising Sun flag.

After Amuro assigned the task to Conan, the little detective asked him for a flag. Amuro replied, "Just find one yourself, but for your convenience, I suggest you take a smaller one."

Conan was puzzled, but he did as instructed anyway.

"Conan-kun, why did you give me this?"

"I told you, it's a gift!"

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the earpiece, then the girl's voice could be heard: "Thank you."

"Then I'm leaving, goodbye Yami-neechan!"

The little detective on the other end of the earphone sounded cheerful and lively.

Amuro breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the matter was over.

Little did they know that Conan would arrange an overtime game.

Amuro realized something was wrong while driving back to the police station:

The little red dot on the screen is moving towards me, and it's moving very fast, not like it's walking.

Amuro had an emergency plan; he adjusted the frequency of the equipment so the other party could no longer pinpoint his location.

"Did he think I would turn off the surveillance after the mission was over?"

Amuro shook his head helplessly.

Back at the police station, Amuro turned on his headset and said, "Stop looking. Your anti-location technology is too poor."

"You actually found out?!"

"Do you have to be so blunt about it every time?"

Amuro was almost laughing in exasperation at the other party.

Have you forgotten our agreement?

"This wasn't mentioned in the agreement!"

"If you don't behave, I'll kill you too!" Amuro threatened menacingly.

"Brother Amuro, I'll definitely complete the mission well!" Conan began to flatter. "This time it was just a signal, but your plan is definitely more than that, right? Don't worry, you can leave anything to me. First graders don't have many classes!"

Amuro nodded in satisfaction: "Good attitude, I won't pursue this matter this time. Just don't let me find out next time!"

"Wait a minute, I have a lot of questions!" Conan said.

“I have the right to choose not to answer,” Amuro replied coldly.

However, some of the questions regarding Conan's understanding of this matter can still be answered.

How did you know I'm Shinichi Kudo?

"Because I've always been by your side."

This statement had a very good deterrent effect. The young detective seemed frightened, and after a while, he reacted and asked uncertainly, "Was there a listening device in the dog inside that alarm clock box?"

"Um."

"Amuro-nii used to work at a restaurant, but he quit yesterday. Why?"

"It has nothing to do with you."

"But I think it's related to a recent corruption case, right? Apparently, the perpetrator frequented that restaurant! Does he have some kind of grudge against Amuro? Or is he just a rival?"

Amuro remained noncommittal, leaving the other party to speculate.

However, Conan is very close to the correct answer.

"Their execution ability is actually stronger after shrinking. Is it because elementary school students have too much free time?"

"I don't understand what your purpose is?"

"Want to know?" Amuro teased him on purpose.

"Of course I want to!"

Amuro cleared his throat and said, "Some things can't be done in a straight line; you have to go around in circles to get things done."

"What's the meaning?"

"I think Holmes's disciple can figure out the meaning for himself."
