Chapter 13 Getting Ready

Miyamoto Kuranosuke yawned and walked into the dilapidated neighborhood under the bright lights of Shinjuku.

"This neighborhood doesn't fit in with the whole of Shinjuku. Can't you renovate it for us for free and keep the appearance of the city?"

Miyamoto Kuranosuke yawned and hurried towards home carrying his briefcase, looking a little tired.

He was just a middle-aged office worker who went to and from get off work every day, but recently, for some reason, he felt more and more tired and often dozed off at work. He was severely scolded by the deputy minister and fined a large amount of money.

Miyamoto Kuranosuke felt very uncomfortable. Although his junior was more than ten years younger than him, he could scold him in the workplace. Life was so helpless.

But when I think about it, I feel helpless. Why am I so tired recently? I go to bed early every day and I don’t play with the computer or mobile phone. Why am I so tired?

However, Miyamoto Kuranosuke also felt that the recent situation in his community seemed very unusual.

There was a chill in the air nearby. It was summer, but it felt as cold as early winter.

Just like now, Miyamoto Kuranosuke couldn't help shivering, feeling that his clothes seemed a little thin, so he had to hold on to his collar tightly.

Suddenly, a piece of paper floated past Miyamoto Kuranosuke, scaring him.

Miyamoto Kuranosuke picked up the piece of paper, and on it was a missing person notice for Shizumi Furuta.

"Oh, it turns out to be a missing person notice from Mr. and Mrs. Furuta's house."

Miyamoto Kuranosuke murmured to himself and put the missing person notice into his briefcase: "Alas, I didn't expect Mrs. Furuta and Mr. Furuta have not yet recovered from the blow of losing their daughter."

For Miyamoto Kuranosuke, Mr. and Mrs. Furuta were both good people. Who could have thought that their daughter would commit suicide? Because the shock was too great, Mr. and Mrs. Furuta always thought that their daughter had run away from home and was not dead.

"But...I don't think I've seen Mr. and Mrs. Furuta in the past few days."

Miyamoto Kuranosuke rested his chin in his hands as he thought, "But the son of the Furuta family seemed a little haggard last night. He said he was going to the Sengen Shrine today... I don't know if he came back yet."

One after another, strange wind sounds blew slowly from a distance, like the howling of ghosts and wolves, causing Miyamoto Kuranosuke to shiver and inexplicably feel a trace of fear about the darkness before his eyes.

"Damn it! I'll definitely suggest putting more street lights in the neighborhood. It's really scary at night!"

In order to ease his mood, Miyamoto Kuranosuke spat fiercely, which actually gave him a little courage and allowed him to continue walking towards home with his chest held high.

He had been working for most of his life, but this was the first time he was frightened by the darkness at night.

"Miyamoto...Miyamoto..."

After taking just two steps, Miyamoto Kuranosuke paused. He vaguely felt as if someone was calling him from behind.

"ah..."

Miyamoto Kuranosuke was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat and almost cried out.

He turned his head stiffly, only to see a familiar figure standing behind him, with a gloomy face, staring at Miyamoto Kuranosuke.

Miyamoto Kuranosuke looked at the familiar figure, his expression froze, and he forced out a smile that was uglier than crying: "Mr. Furuta, it's been a long time since we last met. What's the matter with you calling me?"

At the moment when Mr. Furuta called him, Miyamoto Kuranosuke felt that he was getting colder and colder, as if it was not summer but winter.

"Miyamoto...Miyamoto..."

Mr. Furuta did not respond directly to Miyamoto Kuranosuke, but continued to call Miyamoto Kuranosuke's name repeatedly.

It was at this time that Miyamoto Kuranosuke saw that Mr. Furuta had become extremely thin, his skin had begun to turn brown and was covered with spots, and his eyes were dead and empty, without any luster, just like the eyes of a dead person, which was horrifying!

Miyamoto Kuranosuke felt his hair stand on end and his scalp tingling, and he felt like he was not facing a neighbor, but a dead person.

"Mr. Gu...Mr. Gutian, what do you want to ask me...I...I..."

Miyamoto Kuranosuke was already trembling a little, and was slowly backing away. Seeing that Mr. Furuta did not seem to catch up with him, he immediately turned around and prepared to crawl away.

However, the moment Miyamoto Kuranosuke turned around, he was almost frightened to the ground.

The Furuta Shizumi who had hanged herself appeared behind him and stared at him!

Not only that, she was approaching him, walking towards him!

"Ahhh, don't come over here!"

Miyamoto Kuranosuke collapsed directly to the ground, and Mr. Furuta also moved and walked towards Miyamoto Kuranosuke.

A huge feeling of pressure emerged on Miyamoto Kuranosuke. Under the extreme fear, Miyamoto Kuranosuke took a deep breath, but the next moment, the pale face of Furuta Shizumi appeared in front of him!

Miyamoto Kuranosuke could no longer bear such tremendous pressure, his head tilted and he fainted.

And at the moment when Miyamoto Kuranosuke fainted, a black gas was drawn out from Miyamoto Kuranosuke's body, flowing along the sky, and surging towards the third floor of the Furuta family.

The same thing happened in other corners of the community. More and more black air began to surge from all directions, whether it was the security guard who was drinking tea, the office worker who was returning home, or the residents in the house.

Anyone who has been touched by the Devil's Pen has encountered the same thing, which is sudden fainting.
