Chapter 35: Each other's only reliance
Three hours ago.
After finishing the meeting, Li Beichuan hurried home, spraying perfume on himself as he walked.
The sweat he sweated down due to nervousness diluted the perfume, but he seemed not to notice.
The way home wasn't far, but in just a short distance, he had already sprayed a whole bottle of perfume.
When he arrived at the door of his house, he stopped, adjusted his breathing, and opened the door tremblingly.
The aroma of food wafted into the house. Li Beichuan swallowed nervously and walked into the house without even changing his shoes.
In the restaurant, Ayin was slowly eating the stomach-nourishing porridge in her bowl. When she heard the sound, she raised her head, and her clear eyes reflected Li Beichuan's figure.
Ayin stood up happily, but before she could even shout, she remembered Li Beichuan's expression when he said she had set the house on fire by cooking instead of visiting her.
She sat back in her seat, picked up the spoon and continued to drink the porridge without paying any attention to Li Beichuan who was looking at her crying.
"Ayin..." Li Beichuan was stunned for a moment before rushing over and hugging Ayin into his arms. He buried his head in Ayin's arms, covering his face and crying, "You're really awake. I thought...the boss lied to me..."
A Yin angrily pushed Li Beichuan away from her arms, tears welling up in her eyes, but she turned her head away stubbornly and didn't look at him: "Don't you dislike A Yin having a new love? Why do you still come to A Yin?"
"Ayin hates you and doesn't want to see you. Get out." Ayin turned around, her back facing Li Beichuan, her tone stubborn and firm.
But Ayin didn't know how to pretend. She turned her head from time to time to observe Li Beichuan's little eyes, which had already been caught by Li Beichuan.
Seeing that Ayin was indeed ignoring him out of spite, Li Beichuan immediately smiled and approached Ayin again in a mean manner: "I don't have a new love. Awu only loves Ayin. Ayin knows it very well."
"I don't believe it." Ah Yin secretly glanced at Li Beichuan, snorted, and said, "My sisters who take care of me...the girls who take care of me have all said that you just don't like me anymore. You were so mean to me before! I hate Ah Wu the most and I'm going to ignore you!"
"I'm not angry with you, I'm just worried." Li Beichuan held her hand and explained softly, "Ayin, it's very dangerous for you to cook at home alone. What if you get hurt? Luckily, only the house burned down."
A Yin shook his hand off and shouted angrily, tears streaming down her face. "A Wu only cares about the house! He won't listen to A Yin's explanation! You just like someone else and you don't even come to see me!"
"Ayin hates Awu the most and never wants to see Awu again!" Ayin got up and went back to the bedroom, slamming the door shut.
Li Beichuan stood up again, walked carefully to the bedroom, knocked on the door gently, pushed it open and walked in.
Ayin lay on the bed, wrapped in a quilt. The sound of her sobbing was like a knife piercing Li Beichuan's heart.
He walked over quickly, hugged her from behind, and comforted her softly: "I was wrong, Yin. I will always be with you from now on and never leave again, okay?"
"Big liar!" Ayin was still crying. After a long while, she slowly began to explain: "The girls who took care of me said that Brother Wu didn't like me anymore and that I was just a burden who needed to be taken care of."
"Ayin cooked dinner because she wanted Brother Awu to come and see me, but Brother Awu was mean to me! I hate you the most!" Ayin buried her head in the quilt and shouted, her crying getting louder and louder.
"Ayin is bleeding red tears. Ayin misses grandma and brother Zheqi so much." Ayin opened the quilt and threw herself into Li Beichuan's arms, crying loudly: "Is it because Ayin is disobedient that grandma doesn't want me anymore?"
"Ayin misses grandma so much. Ayin wants to go where grandma is!"
Li Beichuan hugged her tightly, not knowing how to comfort her. He could only pat Ayin's back over and over again as a soothing gesture.
He knew she was very scared, especially after that incident. The successive blows made Ayin even more afraid of loneliness.
The two of them only had a few short years of comforting life before Poison Crocodile was attacked by the upper class. At that time, Li Beichuan was too busy to spare any time to comfort Ayin's emotions, which led to them not seeing each other for three months.
"Awu will never leave again," Li Beichuan said softly, "Awu and Ayin will be together forever."
Ayin's temperament is no different from that of a five-year-old child. She can be coaxed into good health as long as she is given delicious honey and someone reads a storybook to her.
Whatever Ayin likes, Awu does it, as long as she can be happy and stop crying.
It took half a day to calm Ayin down, and Ayin finally calmed down. Tears were still in the corners of her eyes, and her red and slightly swollen eyes were filled with endless sadness.
"Grandma said before that when she has money in the future, she will take Ayin to a big city to play. Ayin wants to go now!" Ayin said angrily and glared at Li Beichuan, "If Awu doesn't take me, Ayin will ignore you in the future."
"Okay." Li Beichuan rubbed Ayin's head and said softly, "How about we go tomorrow? And call the girl who took care of you for a long time."
A Yin nodded and asked, "Is it the tall sister with the iron body? She even has a tail!"
"Boss?" Li Beichuan hesitated. "She probably doesn't have time. I'm talking about the girl who often came to visit Ayin when she was in a coma."
A Yin nodded in confusion. She tilted her head and asked, "Aren't they the same person?"
"No, the girl with the tail you saw is Brother Wu's current boss, and the sister who is taking care of you is the sister of another leader."
Ayin tried hard to digest what Li Beichuan said, but in the end she still couldn't figure out the relationship between the two.
Li Beichuan smiled helplessly: "It's okay, Yin, take your time."
"Will Brother Wu dislike Ayin for being a not-so-smart kid?" Ayin suddenly asked.
Li Beichuan smiled and shook his head: "Ayin has always been the smartest and everyone's favorite girl. Ayin is not stupid, she just hasn't grown up yet."
"Next time if someone bullies you, you must come and tell me, okay? If I'm mean to you again, you push me away like you did today, okay?" Li Beichuan said, kissing Ayin on the cheek.
Ah Yin was both shy and angry. She turned her face away and whispered, "I haven't said I forgive you yet! Don't kiss me!"
"Okay." Li Beichuan took Ayin's hand and asked softly, "Is Ayin an obedient little girl now?"
Ayin nodded.
"Will Ayin eat obediently?" Li Beichuan asked again.
Ayin nodded again.
"Then can Awu cook for Ayin?" Li Beichuan asked, but not immediately.
A Yin suddenly grabbed his hand, her eyes reddening again: "Brother Wu, are you leaving again?"
"No, Brother Wu is just going to cook. If Ayin is worried, you can supervise from the side." Li Beichuan took out the bear slippers he had prepared for Ayin and said, "Let's go, Ayin."
