Chapter 31 Yao Ge [VIP]
Chapter Summary: Falling for someone as wonderful as him is really, perfectly normal.
Fu Xianyin ended up eating a serving of grilled meat bibimbap and two skewers. Cheng Zhaozhao absolutely refused to let Gu Linzhao have the pork tenderloin wrap she bought, especially since Chen Nianke specially added an extra serving of dried orchid for Fu Xianyin.
She said, "Yinyin, you can take it with you. If it's really not enough, you can use it for breakfast tomorrow. Just heat it up in the microwave downstairs in the dorm."
Fu Xianyin's subordinates.
Lin Anxu got a free bowl of dry noodles and a rice ball. He slurped up the dry noodles and said, "I should have told him I didn't want cilantro."
Gu Linzhao rolled his eyes at him: "It's not like I bought it for you. Eating it won't shut you up."
Fu Xianyin looked at the dry noodles thoughtfully.
She never knew that dry noodles were served with cilantro by default. It seems that the few times she had eaten dry noodles were when she sat next to Gu Linzhao and he brought them to her.
Fu Xianyin couldn't remember exactly when Gu Linzhao found out she didn't eat cilantro.
After what happened at noon, she wasn't surprised by anything Gu Banxian might do.
During lunch, Cheng Zhaozhao and Chen Nianke had already returned to their seats, while Lin Anxu used the last bit of time before class to fool around with the other boys.
Gu Linzhao leaned against the window, his eyes lowered, watching her eat barbecue rice.
His gaze was unfocused and lacked purpose; it seemed as if he was just casually leaning against the wall, only glancing at Fu Xianyin occasionally.
But for some reason, Yin Zexuan felt that he couldn't concentrate on the questions.
Fu Xianyin finished her barbecue rice just one minute before class started.
She closed the lid, put the lunchbox into the bag, and hesitated whether to run out to throw away the trash at the last minute or wait until get out of class ended.
A hand naturally took the bag from in front of her.
Gu Linzhao picked up her trash and left without saying a word.
Fu Xianyin watched his retreating figure without much surprise, and picked up his notebook to start reading.
Yin Zexuan, who was standing next to him, looked at the question, then at Fu Xianyin, and then at Gu Linzhao.
In the end, he didn't say anything.
Time flies when you're studying.
Gu Linzhao's process was written in detail and clearly. Fu Xianyin compared it with the notes, went through it once, and basically understood everything.
With only some uncertainty remaining, Fu Xianyin planned to go find Gu Linzhao after the end of evening self-study.
After evening self-study, Cheng Zhaozhao and Chen Nianke packed up their things. Fu Xianyin waved the test paper in her hand and said:
"I need to ask Gu Linzhao a few questions. If you're in a hurry to get back, why don't you leave first?"
Chen Nianke: "Oh, what's the rush? I'll wait for you."
Fu Xianyin took the test paper and went over.
Gu Linzhao was not surprised at all that she came. In fact, before she arrived, he had already told the student in the back row who was packing his bag, "Can I borrow your chair?"
Fu Xianyin came over with the test paper and manuscript paper.
Gu Linzhao pointed to the chairs by the aisle and said, "Sit."
Beside her, Song Yaoge was a little slower in packing her schoolbag.
Now that she's in her final year of high school, dance training has begun, and Song Yaoge rarely comes to evening self-study anymore. She even used to sometimes ask for leave from class to go to the training.
But ever since she was reassigned to sit next to Gu Linzhao, Song Yaoge has never asked for leave again.
She was very bad at academic subjects. She couldn't understand much of what the teachers said in class. She did try to study on her own during evening self-study sessions, but the science subjects were too difficult. She couldn't understand the formulas and would give up after a couple of glances.
Most of the time, she would just pick up a novel and read it, then secretly glance at Gu Linzhao.
Today, she spent the entire evening self-study session thinking about how to stop Gu Linzhao after the session and say a few words to him.
After the bell rang, she had been mentally preparing herself, but just as she was about to speak, Fu Xianyin arrived with the chemistry test paper.
Gu Linzhao even brought a chair from the back table for her to sit on.
All the words Song Yaoge had prepared got stuck in her throat.
The two of them huddled together. Gu Linzhao's pleasant voice was patient and gentle, and he would sometimes crack a joke or two with Fu Xianyin.
The boy's voice was gentle: "I've told you about this before."
The girl was a little surprised: "Really? I don't remember it at all."
The boy said, "Didn't you notice that part was circled in red when you were flipping through your notes?" He paused, then emphasized helplessly, "I circled it for you."
The girl suddenly realized: "You circled it? I thought I circled it because I wasn't familiar with the place."
She pressed on, "What about this one? You didn't tell me about this one too, did you?"
The boy said, "No, but something similar has been mentioned before."
The two were quite close; from Song Yaoge's perspective, they were almost touching.
She bit her lower lip, mechanically packing her things, but her mind was completely on the side.
"Yaoge, aren't you leaving?"
Ji Zhumiao packed her things and walked to the front row.
Song Yaoge said, "I'll wait a bit longer. If you're in a hurry, you can go ahead."
Ji Zhumiao glanced at the test paper next to her and said, "It's okay, I also have something to ask the class monitor."
Song Yaoge raised her head.
Ji Zhumiao looked at Fu Xianyin and Gu Linzhao, and suddenly asked, "Are these the exam papers from the affiliated high school? Can I take a look?"
The number 61 on the front of the paper was bright red and eye-catching. Fu Xianyin felt there was no need to hide it.
She handed the test paper over.
Ji Zhumiao took the test paper and looked at it carefully.
Fu Xianyin and Gu Linzhao were looking up the key points in their notes.
Suddenly, Ji Zhumiao pointed to a problem and asked, "Could you... explain this problem to me?"
The question she was pointing to was exactly the knowledge point that Fu Xianyin was looking for.
Fu Xianyin said, "That's exactly what we were talking about."
Ji Zhumiao looked at the notes and nodded: "I think I understand, but..."
She proposed an alternative solution.
Fu Xianyin looked at her with some surprise. Ji Zhumiao noticed her focused gaze, stopped, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Oh no, I think you explained it quite well," Fu Xianyin said earnestly.
Ji Zhumiao then looked at Gu Linzhao, who nodded: "I also think it's very novel, please continue."
Ji Zhumiao looked at Gu Linzhao.
She felt her whole body trembling.
I'm so excited, so incredibly excited.
She suppressed the slight tremor in her voice, and her tone involuntarily rose.
Song Yaoge stared at Ji Zhumiao, stunned.
She stared at the exam paper as if trying to see a hole through it.
After Ji Zhumiao finished explaining her thought process, she asked, "Class monitor, is there anything wrong with this approach?"
Gu Linzhao said, "I didn't do it using your approach, but it sounds reasonable to me. You can try it yourself."
Ji Zhumiao: "Okay, then I'll go back and do it, and then we'll check the answers tomorrow."
She looked at Fu Xianyin and asked, "Can I borrow the exam paper for one night?"
Fu Xianyin refused outright, saying, "I'm sorry, I need to organize and solidify my thoughts and process tonight. I can lend it to you tomorrow if you need it."
Ji Zhumiao thought for a moment and said, "Then I'll copy this question; it'll be quick."
Fu Xianyin agreed, and she took the manuscript paper back to pack her schoolbag.
Ji Zhumiao was lying on the table in front of Gu Linzhao, copying down the questions.
After Gu Linzhao packed his schoolbag and put his chair back in the back row, Ji Zhumiao also finished copying the questions.
She said to Gu Linzhao, "Thank you, class monitor."
Gu Linzhao: "It's nothing."
Ji Zhumiao slung her backpack over her shoulder, walked to Song Yaoge's desk, and said, "Let's go, Yaoge."
Song Yaoge: "You go first, I have something to do."
Ji Zhumiao gave a somewhat apologetic look: "I'm sorry, Yaoge, it's because I was just now with..."
Song Yaoge shook her head and forced a smile: "It's really not like that."
Ji Zhumiao said, "Are you really alright? But Yaoge, I see you..."
She took a deep breath and said resolutely, "It's okay, Yaoge. If you're unhappy because of this, I'll discuss problems with the class monitor and Fu Xianyin from now on. Don't..."
Song Yaoge interrupted her: "It's really not like that."
She really didn't have any breath left in the world.
Song Yaoge admitted that she was jealous of Fu Xianyin because from the very beginning, Fu Xianyin was not considered her friend, so she was jealous of her and jealous of her close relationship with Gu Linzhao.
But Ji Zhumiao was her friend, and Song Yaoge wouldn't be jealous of her friend; she would only be happy for her friend.
She was depressed because she realized that she was far inferior to Fu Xianyin, Gu Linzhao, or Ji Zhumiao.
This seemingly endless yet brutally obvious gap was the source of her depression.
After packing his schoolbag, Gu Linzhao went to the podium to call Lin Anxu, who was sleeping. Just then, Fu Xianyin also finished packing her schoolbag and walked out with Cheng Zhaozhao and the others.
The group walked together to the classroom door, where there was no one else but Song Yaoge and Ji Zhumiao.
As Gu Linzhao passed by Song Yaoge and the others, he reminded them, "It's getting late. If we don't go back soon, we might miss the dorm check."
Song Yaoge stood up, looked at him, and asked with a determined look, "Gu Linzhao, can I... talk to you about something?"
She was afraid that Gu Linzhao would refuse, but Gu Linzhao only thought about it for a moment and then said, "It's getting late, let's talk as we walk."
He stood by the door, his finger on the light switch, gesturing for Song Yaoge to go first.
After Song Yaoge left the classroom, he turned off the lights and closed the classroom door.
Fu Xianyin and her group walked ahead with great awareness, Ji Zhumiao followed not far behind them, while Song Yaoge and Gu Linzhao were talking at the back.
Lin Anxu winked and said, "Do you think Song Yaoge is going to confess her feelings to Brother Zhao?"
Upon hearing the words "confession," Fu Xianyin instinctively glanced back for some reason.
Gu Linzhao, with his backpack slung over one shoulder, was talking to Song Yaoge.
Chen Nianke also secretly glanced at it, then leaned close to Fu Xianyin's ear and said in a voice only they could hear, "I feel like I'm about to confess my feelings too."
She whispered, "Song Yaoge should be going to the art exam training camp soon. It's reasonable for her to be brave before she leaves."
Cheng Zhaozhao also leaned over and whispered, "I also feel that it's very possible."
The two looked at Fu Xianyin together and asked, "Yinyin, what about you? What do you think?"
Fu Xianyin didn't know.
She had only been in Class 15 for a little over a month, and could only tell that Song Yaoge had some feelings for Gu Linzhao, but she didn't know anything else.
She shook her head and said honestly, "I really don't know."
Cheng Zhaozhao: "However, I feel that Gu Linzhao probably won't agree."
Chen Nianke: "I also think he wouldn't. He seems to have absolutely no interest in Song Yaoge."
For some reason, Fu Xianyin looked back again.
Gu Linzhao happened to look up.
The two exchanged a brief glance before Fu Xianyin quickly turned her head away.
He...won't?
Fu Xianyin did not know the answer.
The streetlights stretched out the shadows.
Song Yaoge looked at the two shadows side by side on the ground.
She wasn't doing this to confess her feelings to Gu Linzhao.
She really did have some questions for Gu Linzhao.
She looked at Gu Linzhao and suddenly asked, "So, do you think I should study literature?"
Gu Linzhao countered, "Do you want to learn it yourself?"
Song Yaoge: "I don't know."
Changing course selections at this point in senior year of high school is a very risky move.
Song Yaoge shrugged and said frankly, "My grades have always been very bad, typical of art students. This should be my last chance. After registering for the college entrance examination in a while, there will be no turning back."
She raised her head and bravely looked at Gu Linzhao: "What about you? What do you think? Consider it... some advice."
Gu Linzhao said, "Before you were divided into classes in your first year of high school, which of the six subjects were you good at?"
Song Yaoge: "Humanities will be relatively better..." She added, "And biology too."
My heart was gripped by tension.
Song Yaoge was afraid that Gu Linzhao would ask her why she chose science if that was the case.
But Gu Linzhao did not.
He said, "Then you could consider keeping biology, and then choose two subjects from the three humanities subjects that you are good at. That way you won't have to start from scratch, and the pressure will be less."
He said, "I'm sorry, I wasn't particularly good at humanities when I was in my first year of high school, so I probably can't give you much advice on that. But for me at the time, I felt that history was a little easier to learn than politics."
He said, "You can ask your homeroom teacher, or ask a humanities teacher you know, and listen to their advice and analysis. Your senior will definitely say something to you about changing your elective courses in your senior year, but you'd better go see her and listen to her opinion."
He didn't ask Song Yaoge why she chose science despite being good at humanities.
He didn't reveal the most hidden part of Song Yaoge's heart.
He did not treat Song Yaoge perfunctorily just because her grades were not good.
Even the complete opposite.
He gave Song Yaoge serious advice and told her everything he knew.
Song Yaoge did not detect any hint of contempt in his words.
Suddenly, her eyes stung with tears. Staring at her shadow on the ground, she forced back her own tears.
The male and female dormitories are located on either side of the road at the end.
Song Yaoge stopped at the intersection, and Gu Linzhao also stopped.
He asked, "Is there anything else you want to ask?"
Song Yaoge shook her head: "No, I just... wanted to ask about this."
She flashed a bright smile and waved to Gu Linzhao: "Bye-bye, class monitor."
Gu Linzhao waved and said, "Bye-bye."
He walked towards the men's dormitory, and Lin Anxu hooked his arm around his neck, playfully teasing him, saying something unintelligible.
Song Yaoge looked at his tall and slender back.
She thought.
I've fallen for such a wonderful person.
That's really nothing out of the ordinary.
The next morning during reading time, Song Yaoge's seat was empty.
After the second math class ended, Gao Ying called out Fu Xianyin's name:
"Fu Xianyin, come to my office."
Fu Xianyin went with Gao Ying.
On the way, Gao Ying said, "I corrected the high school exam paper for you. You did very well, still 150 points."
Fu Xianyin felt a little relieved.
She said, "Thank you, teacher."
In the grade director's office, Fu Xianyin and Song Yaoge met face to face.
Song Yaoge's parents were standing next to her.
Gao Ying pointed to the sofa in the office and said, "Yao Ge's parents, please sit down and wait a moment. I need to say a few words to the student."
Song Yaoge's father, who was chubby, immediately broke into a smile upon hearing this.
"Oh, teacher, it's alright, you go ahead with your work, we're not in a hurry."
Gao Ying found Fu Xianyin's test paper, and the bright red 150 in the middle was dazzling.
Song Yaoge's father immediately noticed the bright red 150 and said, "Oh my, Teacher Gao, your student did so well! 150, a perfect score!"
Gao Ying smiled too. She pointed at Fu Xianyin and said, "It was this child who took the exam."
Song Yaoge's father looked at Fu Xianyin and said with a smile, "This little girl is so amazing, she can even score 150 in a subject like math."
He gave Fu Xianyin a thumbs-up with his chubby hand and said, "Perfect score! That's fantastic!"
His tone rose, conveying the friendly care of an elder for a younger generation, and his praise was extremely sincere.
Fu Xianyin pursed her lips and said, "Thank you, Uncle. It's all thanks to Teacher Gao's excellent teaching."
Song Yaoge's father shook his head and said, "Well, it's certain that Teacher Gao teaches well. But your good grades are also the result of your own hard work, so you should still be praised."
Gao Ying started chatting with Song Yaoge's father: "This test paper is from the affiliated high school. It's a test paper that Xianyin specially printed from the affiliated high school because she has high standards for herself."
Song Yaoge's father said, "Look, while she gets good grades, she is also self-disciplined and doesn't slack off."
Gao Ying did not hold back in praising Fu Xianyin: "Yes, Xianyin is an outstanding student in the class. She even got first place in the grade in the last monthly exam. She has only been here for a little over two weeks and she already got first place in the grade."
Song Yaoge's father exclaimed somewhat exaggeratedly, "Wow, first in the grade! This child is truly amazing!"
He turned to Song Yaoge's mother, who was sitting on the sofa, and said, "Did you hear from the homeroom teacher? This child got first place in the grade."
Song Yaoge's mother also praised, "I heard that, she's such an excellent child."
The two of them sang in unison, and they did so with great seriousness.
Fu Xianyin's ears turned red, and she lowered her head somewhat embarrassed.
Song Yaoge's father wasn't very tall, only a little taller than Fu Xianyin. He looked at Fu Xianyin and said, "Could you tell your uncle what score we got if we were first in our grade?"
Fu Xianyin said, "692."
Song Yaoge's father: "Wow, that's fantastic!"
Song Yaoge's mother: "Oh my god, this is amazing!"
Fu Xianyin chuckled softly and said, "Thank you, Uncle and Aunt."
Gao Ying handed the test paper back to Fu Xianyin and said, "Okay, you can go back now. Come find me if you have any questions."
Fu Xianyin said, "Okay, goodbye, teacher."
She also made a point of greeting Song Yaoge's parents: "Goodbye, Uncle and Aunt."
Song Yaoge's father exclaimed, "What an outstanding child!"
Fu Xianyin stood outside closing the office door.
She heard Song Yaoge's father say from inside the house, "Yaoge's learning is a bit lacking compared to string music. Yaoge, you still need to work harder."
Song Yaoge seemed to hum in response and said, "Okay."
Song Yaoge's father said, "But our Yaoge also has her own strengths. Everyone has different strengths, right, Yaoge?"
The sounds of their conversation gradually faded into the distance.
Fu Xianyin walked towards the stairs, preparing to return to the classroom, when she suddenly saw a familiar figure.
Wu Jiacheng was playing around with his classmates when he saw Fu Xianyin. After exchanging a few words with his classmates, he jogged over.
“Oh, Fu Xianyin.”
Wu Jiacheng shouted.
Fu Xianyin, her face cold, was about to walk past him.
The next second, Wu Jiacheng's cheerful voice came from behind, and his words made Fu Xuanyin stop in her tracks.
He said:
Didn't your chemistry teacher say anything to you?
"For example... telling you to behave yourself in Beichuan or something."
Fu Xianyin turned around.
She didn't speak, but just quietly looked at Wu Jiacheng.
Wu Jiacheng felt a little uneasy under their gaze.
He clicked his tongue and said, "Curious? Do you want to know what's going on?"
"If you want to know, meet me on the back street during lunch break today."
He seemed certain that Fu Xianyin would come; as he turned and strode away, he waved to her and said:
"See you there!"
