Chapter 86 Save Me [VIP]
Chapter Summary: Darling, darling, save me.
The two of them ate their meal in silence.
There was no discord at the dinner table. After all, everyone was considerate of Cheng Zhaozhao's birthday, which was also her eighteenth birthday, and no one wanted to spoil the mood.
After dinner, Cheng Zhaozhao dragged everyone to sing karaoke.
While at the karaoke bar, Cheng Zhaozhao insisted on having some alcohol.
Lin Anxu reluctantly tried to dissuade him; he actually wanted to drink too, but it was getting dark, and he was clinging to the last shred of reason in his mind.
However, his remaining rationality was completely extinguished by a single sentence from Fu Xianyin.
Fu Xianyin said, "Drink up, I want to drink too."
"Then let's drink! We're all adults, what's wrong with drinking!"
Fu Xianyin sensed that Gu Linzhao seemed to have glanced at her.
But it doesn't really matter anymore.
The five people ordered a case of six bottles of wine. As soon as Fu Xianyin sat down, she took out a bottle. The bottle opener was in Lin Anxu's hand. He was half-heartedly picking up the opener to open the bottle when he was about to say, "Sister, the bottle opener is here. Give it to me and I'll open it for you." Before he could say it, there was a crisp "bang," and then Lin Anxu saw the bottle cap roll a few times on the table.
Fu Xianyin touched the corner of the table where the wine bottle had been knocked, and after confirming that there was no damage, she reached out to Lin Anxu: "Here, let me open it for you."
Lin Anxu swallowed silently, handed over a bottle of wine, and said, "Sister, how come you're so secretive?"
Fu Xianyin took the wine, tapped it on the edge of the table with practiced ease, and with a crisp sound, the bottle cap arced through the air before landing on the table with a clinking sound.
She smiled and said, half-jokingly, "I've already said it, I'm someone with a story."
Cheng Zhaozhao took a sip from the bottle, then her face scrunched up in a grimace.
She stuck out her tongue, moved the bottle of wine further away, and said, "Why is it so bitter?"
Lin Anxu said gloatingly, "Then you still want to drink? Order six more bottles."
Cheng Zhaozhao is the type who can't handle being provoked. Upon hearing this, she gulped down another big mouthful. The smell of alcohol was burning in her throat. She shook the bottle and said, "Who says I can't drink?"
Lin Anxu was selecting songs at the karaoke machine, while Fu Xianyin watched as the number of songs increased. She sat crookedly on the sofa, watching Cheng Zhaozhao and Lin Anxu make a ruckus.
Chen Nianke sipped her wine slowly on the side, holding a microphone in her hand. Whenever she heard a song, she would sing a few lines. After singing, she would squeeze over and sit down next to Fu Xianyin, pushing the wine bottle out of Fu Xianyin's hand and shoving the microphone to Fu Xianyin's mouth.
This is Fish Leong's "Love Song".
Cheng Zhaozhao made the request, but she could only sing the climax. Chen Nian hummed along for a couple of lines, but found that she couldn't keep up either, so she handed the microphone to Fu Xianyin.
Since entering the room, Fu Xianyin had been sitting quietly on the sofa drinking. Gu Linzhao had been led to the front by Lin Anxu with his arm around his shoulder to join in the fun. She just sat there, neither singing nor speaking, and simply watched them.
Chen Nian shoved the microphone into Fu Xianyin's hand.
She originally just wanted Fu Xianyin to be more involved, but she didn't expect that Fu Xianyin would actually be able to sing this song.
Fu Xianyin smiled and didn't refuse. She took the microphone from Chen Nianke and sang a couple of lines.
Her singing voice was somewhat different from her usual speaking voice. Perhaps it was because of the song, but the affectionate words that came out of her mouth actually carried a touch of tenderness.
She held the microphone between her fingers, her body still leaning lazily against the sofa—a posture clearly unsuitable for singing, yet she remained seated.
He just sang casually.
If I encounter unfamiliar words or phrases, I just gloss over them; if I can't remember a melody, I simply hum a tune.
Her eyes were lowered, as if she wasn't looking at the lyrics at all, or perhaps she would glance at them occasionally before lowering her eyelashes again.
Gu Linzhao stood in front of the karaoke machine with Lin Anxu's arm around his shoulder.
After gulping down half a bottle of beer, Lin Anxu, though not a bad drinker, was already quite excited due to the intense drinking and the lively atmosphere.
He shook Gu Linzhao's shoulder and said, "Brother, why don't you come over and sing with us! A love duet! I'll record it for you both!"
The microphone was practically thrust to Gu Linzhao's lips.
But he gently pushed it away.
He just watched.
The girl sat on the sofa, her eyes and eyebrows slightly raised. She held a microphone in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other, taking a couple of sips whenever there was an interlude.
She was sitting right in the middle of the room, right with him.
Even though they were only inches apart, I could touch her cheek with a simple step.
But Gu Linzhao inexplicably felt that she seemed very, very far away.
So far away that he couldn't reach it, so far away that he couldn't touch it.
The long shot zooms out further and further away, several years later.
We bid each other farewell with a polite kiss at the concert we were reminiscing about.
The song you wrote for me was my first song.
You and I hold hands, silently writing the prelude.
But then what? [1]
When she sang this part, for some reason, Gu Linzhao suddenly felt his heart sink.
In that instant, an immense sense of unease enveloped him.
He suddenly felt that what was written in the lyrics as "then" had actually happened to him.
A lingering, melodious voice came through the microphone.
She kept singing.
Luckily, I have this love song.
humming softly.
Crying and laughing.
Mine, forever and ever. [2]
The accompaniment was deafening; Gu Linzhao wondered if Lin Anxu had turned up the volume earlier because he felt the atmosphere wasn't right. The volume felt like it was being played right up against his ear.
Yet he could clearly hear every word Fu Xianyin sang.
He turned his head to look at the four words "forever and ever" displayed on the big screen.
She sang "Forever".
But their ending doesn't seem to have a way of lasting forever.
After Fu Xianyin finished singing the song, she handed the microphone back to Chen Nianke.
Cheng Zhaozhao then ordered a lot more upbeat songs, including rock and band tracks. Almost all the drinks were finished, and only Chen Nianke remained rational and calm; Cheng Zhaozhao and Lin Anxu had already let loose and had a great time.
The speakers were playing Phoenix Legend, and Cheng Zhaozhao and Lin Anxu were singing a duet, each holding a microphone.
When the two got into the swing of things, they even started dancing to the music, swaying freely to the dynamic music, their smiles practically overflowing.
Fu Xianyin held the beer bottle, smiling as she looked at them.
They were genuinely happy, so happy that even Fu Xianyin was infected by the atmosphere.
She curved her lips into a smile, narrowed her eyes, and suddenly felt her breath tremble slightly.
This is her little bit of happiness, the last bit she has left.
It has friends, laughter, songs, wine, and love.
And the person she likes.
Everything was so beautiful.
It was so beautiful that Fu Xianyin didn't even want to die.
She wanted the world to keep turning, she wanted to experience this life fully, from beginning to end, so that she wouldn't waste a single second of happiness.
"Yinyin, Yinyin!"
Cheng Zhaozhao's steps were already a little unsteady. She staggered towards the sofa, and Fu Xianyin quickly went forward to help her.
A somewhat cheerful intro started playing from the speakers.
Cheng Zhaozhao shoved the microphone into Fu Xianyin's hand, mumbling, "Yinyin, sing, sing!"
The crisp drumbeats pounded on Fu Xianyin's eardrums, while Lin Anxu had already started howling like a banshee.
Tonight I tried every possible way to get your name.
How can I keep my heart from slipping away on this colorful dance floor? [3]
Fu Xianyin had heard this song before.
I don't remember if I saw it by chance or if it was a push notification from a music app.
Lin Anxu's wailing stopped at the chorus.
Fu Xianyin took the microphone and continued singing:
Darling, please come and save me!
Darling, darling, save me. [4]
The lyrics were supposed to be upbeat and cheerful, and she intended to continue singing like that, but the moment her gaze fell on Gu Linzhao and they made eye contact, all the lyrics took on a completely different meaning.
Darling, please come and save me!
Darling, darling, save me. [5]
The lights in the KTV room flickered, casting a colorful and dazzling glow on everyone's faces.
The ancient melody, the light and cheerful lyrics, and the slightly unclear background noise from the microphone all stimulated Gu Linzhao's senses.
Under the combined stimulation, he suddenly saw a glistening tear in the corner of the girl's eye under the light.
It was just a fleeting moment.
It only flashed in the corner of her eye for a moment.
In such a noisy atmosphere, under such psychedelic lights, he could completely convince himself that it was all just an illusion.
But he didn't want things to continue like this.
He didn't want to deceive himself anymore, and he didn't want to convince himself with one reason after another.
He strode over
Fu Xianyin only glanced at him before quickly lowering her head.
The bottle in his hand was empty, and there was an unopened beer on the table.
She leaned forward to grab it, then gently tapped the bottle cap against the edge of the table. The bottle bounced up, arced through the air, and landed on the table.
She raised her hand, and beer bubbles burst from the bottle. Just as the emerald glass was about to touch her lips, a hand blocked the exploding bubbles.
Fu Xianyin tilted his head back.
The boy was backlit, making it difficult to see his facial features.
His Adam's apple seemed to bob, and the next second, Fu Xianyin heard him say:
"Drink less."
Fu Xianyin felt a lump of air blocking her chest.
She forced herself to look away and said softly, "I didn't drink much, I'm perfectly sober now."
The hand holding the bottle was removed.
Fu Xianyin took a big gulp.
The icy liquid rolled down his throat, the slight bitterness of the beer and the jumping bubbles constantly stimulating Fu Xianyin's nerves.
Although the alcohol hadn't numbed her brain, Fu Xianyin felt like she was about to lose her senses.
After a brief interlude, the accompaniment, along with the lyrics, bursts forth from the speakers.
Darling, please come and save me!
Darling, darling, save me. [6]
Help me.
Help me.
Darling, Darling.
Save me.
Her reason was completely overwhelmed by this lyric, and with a crisp sound, Fu Xianyin slammed the bottle onto the table.
The next second, she raised her hand and hooked it around Gu Linzhao's neck, kissing him without any regard for anything else.
The faint scent of alcohol mingled with the girl's delicate fragrance.
Gu Linzhao felt his lips being blocked, then gently sucked and bitten.
In the very end.
He felt a drop of liquid seep into his mouth from between their joined lips.
Slightly salty, slightly bitter.
It looks like a tear.

[1],[2] Source: Fish Leong, Love Song
[3],[4],[5],[6] Source: Mosaic "Neon Sweetheart"
I wanted to write about the song "Neon Sweetheart" and this plot back in March. At that time, I had just started writing this story, and I probably only had a few chapters saved up. I hadn't even figured out the specific development of the story yet, but I already had this plot in my mind.
This is actually a rather cheerful and retro piece of music, a melody that is easy to make people happy and like. However, because of this plot, every time I hear it afterward, I feel a hidden sadness beneath the surface of happiness.
